Hi...the question of what an artist "needs" to do or learn is really a matter of what they want to accomplish in their playing and performance. I have never considered circular breathing necessary on a harmonica, as a clarinetist might do, as necessary perhaps because we play also with Draws.
Hi Zhong, actually so you know the technique, I do not hold my breath, as I am breathing a bit through my nose on all draw and blow notes to stay respirated. On a powerfully played note, I will move all air out through the mouth on blows and draw, or runs, by closing the glottis.
