Vic from New Jersey guides you through his incredible collection of vintage Gottlieb EM (wedgehead) pinball machines. He has spent approximately 80 hours restoring each of these all original condition machines and another 20+ hours of fine tuning. Video taken by his "brother in pinball", Joe Roth (jrpinball). Vic gives a brief history of how he acquired each of these games. Enjoy!
Sorry about the buzzing noise at the end of the video but the boiler heating system turned on in Vic Camp's basement during the video.

I know what you mean about the odor the machines produce. All those wires ,metal,lube,ribbers, coils, light bulbs,plastic's all make for a great aroma when they heat up. I too miss the arcades. I remember spending my entire vacation all day and night on the boardwalk arcades that were filled with pinball machines and other fun coin op stuff to play.

Truly impressive collection you have there. I’ve always liked pinball machines over video games, and my parents’ former neighbors still have a Cross Town in their basement. During the short time I worked as an arcade tech, I did a bit of work on it, but it still needs some work on the relays (and changeover to 5 ball mode) to truly shine.
@viccamppinball
@viccamppinball 5 лет назад
In 1966 Gottlieb's Cross Town was part of the animated back glass single player pinball machines which turned out to be what we collectors call the mid 1960's classic EM games. There were other classic animated games like Central Park, Buckaroo, King od Diamonds, Bank a Ball, Bowling Queen and perhaps a couple more I can't think of at the moment. For Cross Town is a tough game to beat by Special or High Score for replays. I have one in my collection and when I play the game. it always gets me close to beating it for replays, but I come up short. I always want to play another game on this mid-1960's classic animated wedgehead.Changing the game to 5 ball mode is easy and only a male to female connector needs to be switched to the other position. It takes about 5 seconds to switch the Cross Town form 3 balls to 5 balls. Go here to this link to view all manufacturing information about this great player.www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=cross+town&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick#601

Thanks for taking the time to give us this great tour of Vic's man cave. I just adore those old Gottlieb Electro-Mechanicals. I always found the earlier ones with those ball loader plungers particularly gratifying to play for some reason.

These early on... first generation of wedgeheads which were introduced back in 1961 had the "push rod - ball lift unit" until 1967. I think the first game to get the "automatic ball release" to the player was on the 1967 King of Diamonds wedgehead game. Thanks for dropping by Bill and commenting too.

Vic, all these wonderful games and no Slick Chick! My favorite, I was blessed to get one on ebay almost two years ago. I also got a Corral and an Egg Head. i love all three. I have to admit I'm envious. I have a bingo game and a Eight ball Deleux. With my pool table I don't have any more room. Although I would love to have a Tropical Paradise. Stay young and enjoy! Tim D

Myself and a buddy of mine pigged out on Drop a Card in early 1972 at Sammy Whites Bowling Lanes in Brighton Mass. It was always such a challenge knocking down those 13 poker card squares all around the playing field. They'd cycle in a new game every 3 to 4 months as I recall, out with the old in with the new. It was an arcade room of about 7 or 8 machines.

Thanks for contacting me and sharing your story about Drop a Card, which was such a successful design by Gottlieb engineering. the 13 Drop targets made all the pinball players become more addicted to the Silverball game. Thanks

Wow. You got all the classics. I noticed your coin slots were for dimes and quarters. I remember only nickel slots. Growing up in Ambridge, Pa there were many places that had these. Candy stores,shoe shine shops,bowling alleys etc. I believe in the late 60’s the price went up to a dime and the machines were not as much fun. The Wedgeheads were always my favorites. My friend and I were hooked. We would ride our bikes to the Pittsburgh Airport or hitchhike to downtown Pittsburgh just to visit the big arcades. (After we ammased a lot of nickels.)My favorites were Slick Chick, North Star,Buckaroo,Gigi,Rack a Ball. I been looking for a place around here who has these old classics with no luck. A little story about North Star. One day my friend was leaning on a neighboring machine and watching me when he kicked out the power cord and at the same time the ball went into the hole. As he fumbled around to put the plug back in, a 100 points racked up and the ball didnt kick out of the hole. Slightly put the plug back in and another 100 points and ball still in hole. Started racking up points and games. Loved that crack sound. So now we would post someone at the power cord and wait for the ball to go in the hole 😊 The candy store owner caught on to our game and had the vendor fix it so when the power cord was pulled the machines power didn’t come back on. You probably have the best collection of anyone with these old time classics.

@@viccamppinball I now live in a small town called Baden, Pa. Named after a town in Germany called Baden Baden, only a few miles from Ambridge where I grew up. About 20 miles north of Pittsburgh. Old Steel Mill town. People were all working good and had lots of expendable cash back in the day.The steel from Ambridge is famous for many famous buildings,bridges, WW2 LST's. Empire State Building, Golden Gate Bridge, just to name a few. But anyhow, I am totally amazed at your collection. The Gotlieb Wedgeheads of the 60's were the best machines ever made. Period. When I would go to play, I always looked for the Wedgeheads.

I learned something today - the "wedgehead" is an old Gottlieb pinball machine with the distinctive small "wedge" backglass and single, ten-thousands score counters. I love the funky graphics that inevitably are a part of these types of machines.

Hi Sean, Thanks for the nice comment about the Gottlieb "wedgehead" single player pinball machines. Just to let you know Gottlieb manufactured the wedgehead series from 1961 to 1979. By 1980 Gottlieb starting making solid state pinball machines.

I had an addiction to 'High Hand'. It was a very popular game at the local bowling alleys here.
@viccamppinball
@viccamppinball 7 лет назад
High Hand was the last game i played at the corner candy store on Summer Ave in Newark NJ which was 50 feet from our house and across the street from Essex Catholic High School in 1973, after playing many many other pinball machines there starting in 1966. I remember this like it was yesterday because in 1973 i got my drivers license and our family moved to Lake st across the street from Branchbrook Park near Second Ave and pinball took a backseat for a while until the 1980's when i started collecting pinball machines. High Hand is a tough game to beat and a was a real money maker for the vendors running the games on route.

What an amazing collection! A couple fun facts (that you probably know already): The 1975 movie Tommy featured Buckaroo, it was the machine that the Pinball Wizard (Elton John) played in the showdown with Tommy (Roger Daltrey). Tommy played a Kings and Queens, it would be neat if you could get a KaC and put it next to the Buckaroo. Central Park, El Dorado, Centigrade 37, and Jacks Open have been recreated in the video game/simulation The Pinball Arcade. Gottlieb reskinned El Dorado in several later releases, including Target Alpha, Solar City, and Gold Strike. Again, thanks for posting these beautiful works of art.

I just finished watching your video. I also am from Newark, not far from the airport and the Budweiser plant. I'm just starting to get into pinball, at the age of 70. I have two Jersey Jack machines , one Sterns Ghost Busters, and the Sterns Beatles machine on order. I went to South Side high . What can you tell me about a Gotlieb Flying Carpet pinball machine that might become available to me? I'm not too concerned if it works or not. I'm looking for something vintage to work on in my garage . Your thoughts?
@viccamppinball
@viccamppinball 6 лет назад
Its always nice to hear from Newark, NJ people...Like i responded to you below about, if you are handy and have knowledge with electrical and mechanical pinball machines and can read a wiring schematic then buying the Flying Carpet shouldn't be a problem at all. These Gottlieb manufactured pinball machines nickname "wedgeheads" were built with the ability to last for ever, if service and maintained correctly through their years of operation. Once a Gottlieb EM pinball machine that was sitting in the basement not working for many years and a good EM tech gone through it correctly ,the game will provide years of enjoyment. With that being said.... it looks like you have mostly the newer games and are looking to tinker with an EM pinball machine and get it going to play and enjoy. Well, i say give it a try. There are many pinball websites and i mean TONS of information on how to get your EM pinball machine up and working out there for anyone who wants to earn about these wonderful games. Where are you located at the present time? Are you a member of the website called PINSIDE? I am here to help guide you with questions and or contact information as much as i can to lead you to where you'll need to go to get the Flying Carpet up and running etc. Good Luck!

I am looking for a Pinball Machine which I thought was called Baseball, but it's definitely Baseball themed. It is a Pinball Machine that also has a ramp that when you Flip the ball, it can go to a second level. I remember playing it in the early 1970's era. Do you know the name of the machine which I'm referring to? I remember being a Pinball Machine, not a Pitch and Bat machine.
@viccamppinball
@viccamppinball 6 лет назад
Not sure there is a Baseball theme pinball machine with flippers that has a ramp and another level from the early 1970's.
@chumjoe2223
@chumjoe2223 6 лет назад
I havent seen it yet, but an opportunity came up to buy a Flying Carpet machine by Gotlieb. I understand the game doesn't play. Second owner. Went from an arcade lightly played to a private owner. $500.00 might buy it. What do you think?
@viccamppinball
@viccamppinball 6 лет назад
When purchasing an EM pinball machine....It always depends on condition and if the game is working 100% perfect. If the backglass, playfield and cabinet are in good to excellent condition with minor imperfections and the game works 100% then $500 is a good deal....but if the backglass is flaking a some and cabinet and playfield have wear and the game isn't working 100%...then more like $200 to $ 300 would be fair. If you can not make your on repairs yourself to get the game working 100%, then it could become expensive to hire a Tech to come out to work on your game. Most EM pinball machines from th 1970's that have been sitting in a homeowners basement could need some repairs to get it working 100% again and some machines need more or less work than others.
