Vocal technique takes a long time to develop, its cool to actually see an accurate Representation of him working for that, because lets be honest, some people are just naturally Talented and others have to learn, its nice to see him as a vocalist improving over a long period of time like that he did the strug. people confuse pitch and tone a lot, which gets more confusing with terms like tone-deaf, where in vocal theory there's a clear difference between Pitch and tone. Glad you point that out.
It was good to see this. Very inspiring. A lot of times I feel like giving up out of frustration and embarrassment. But we love it so we gotta keep going, right? Nothing good comes easy I suppose. Thanks for doing what you do Doug
I currently sing like Vic during the selfish machines era, but less nasally. It's really whiny, and I tend to put a lot of pressure down by my throat. I like so sing a lot, and pretty much break out into a whole musical whenever I feel like it, but sometimes if I sing to much I end up really hurting my voice. My current technique definitely is not super healthy for my voice, and I'm trying to change it :')
I totally agree his new tone sounds great its cool seeing him improve his technique, but i get why people miss the old technique. in a way it makes me think of Hayley Williams older songs vs newer, she sings healthier now too, and kate bush even! in all these examples, I like how both techniques sound, but I favor having that theater in your voice, it is so fun, which vics older albums really have.
this is really nice to watch .. all the transformation and interviews were really interesting... thank you for compiling those! can i request an Alex Gaskarth version of this video please? :)
If Vic ever sadly retires we got his replacement right here ^^^ incredible can we have a Doug and Vic Collab 🤞 seriously incredible video though thank you 👏
Jax LaPoint agreed. i listen to oceans ate alaska, heard each and every songs they put out even their first (crap quality home recording) ep but only one of their music videos I haven't watched but i've been listening to them since 2014. I guess I'm not a "real fan" xD
Vic is praising the fuck out of Anthony Green😍 love the Circa and Saosin praise, Circa is my favorite band along with early Saosin and the reason I actually still enjoy Pierce the Veil unlike all the other scene post hardcore music is probably that influence too
I really enjoyed this video, I really did, but I need some tips I've been listening to Artists such as: Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco, Three Days Grace, Imagine Dragons, Paramore, Walk The Moon, Foster The People, and plenty more. All of what I have listed screamed/high pitched notes As for me, I'm a girl, but have a somewhat low pitched voice to where as I scream or hit high pitched notes, it either doesn't sound right, or I just can't hit the right point of the octave. Plenty of other girls have a fairly pitched voice to where as it's decent for them to work Ariana Grande and Justin Beiber songs. So what do I do to help improve my vocals? Vocal warm-ups? Vocal practices Thanks in advanced, and if you can't, it's okay :)
The first band he mentions singing high is circa survive and now him and anthony green are two of my biggest inspirations, amazing. I can’t sing nearly as high as either of them so that’s fucked.
hey doug is your snapchat still active? i want to send you a singing clip so you can let me know where i lack of :) and very inspiring video I always wanted to reach vics range :(
Nice, yes you can upload it to a hosting website then link me it to my email address off my website. Or you can send me a singing clip over snapchat from your camera roll/phone gallery
When you say its more healthy to sing in a more neutral tone where he drops the larynx does that mean if he continued to sing that style he would eventually damage his voice?
Yeah people think lower larynx = lower pitch because you kept dropping to a lower register when explaining it. But the concept itself threw me - it is easier to understand just to say like.. open at the back of the throat (low larynx) vs tight/closed (high larynx). So rather than where the larynx is the idea is... where the sound is, what shape it lives in. How much chest/mouth/jaw does it get vs. how much nasal/head. The best natural/untrained singers are probably more familiar with this.
It’s as if he reversed puberty bc he sounded like Billie joe Armstrong and the same thing goes with Shawn milke and even Jonny Craig before dance Gavin dance
Nikolas Tesla yes, I do know who AFI is, I used to listen to them. What makes you think that PTV are AFI wannabes? Also, the wrist slitting thing didn't really make sense.
Well that’s just your opinion, because many people will disagree including me. Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be singing because many people genuinely enjoy it, if you don’t like it don’t listen :)
