I purchased one of these and am using it in a "SixtyClone" board. It is wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for bringing this to the masses! - Dice/NTT
I purchased on of the small boards and loved it. I would have liked to have had a large one too, but I snoozed and I lost. Thank you and I sure hope you do one more pre-order of the large boards.
Love the additional modes you've added. I've been watching some old videos about the C64 DTV and the extra video modes that were secretly added to that. I believe there was a full 256 colour mode, which people made some incredible demos for. Wonder If there's a possibility of going that far with the Kawari?
New to the Commodore 64 scene, but a huge fan of modern technology being applied to old computers. Looking forward to seeing the VIC-II Kawari reach its true potential. I have a few ideas for feature, though I'm not sure if you'll be able to implement it within the limited logic space of your FPGA. We'll see. - Improved hardware scrolling (perhaps with optional supersampling and/or motion blur?) - Startup logo (similar to the SwinSID's startup chime) - Line 21 caption generator (for accessibility) Edit: Now I've actually seen the video. D'oh.
I'm happy to have a Kawari in my classic breadbin. I hope a modern C64 games house like PROTOVISION makes some C64 magic with it someday. Also, I hope that by diving into the repo, I might learn a little bit about FPGA in terms of my beloved Commie.
There is emerging a kind of 'enhanced C64' de-facto standard. Some of the things you see on the Evo64, for example: Dual SID, sound amp, support for modern interfaces. Maybe built-in extra RAM and ROMs. So an outfit like Protovision might be able to target users with those hardware features, releasing an impressive C64 'Ex' game.
The color palette for 6569R3 I think the default is much better. Thank god I didn't saved values but just applied them until hard reset. TheRetroChannel preset for it is way too saturated. Default I think is about spot on compared to my real machines and also how I remembered it to be back then.
Thanks for the video. I had a quick question. I know you mentioned early in the vid that you may be sending out the last batch of these. I did place a preorder for the large version of Kawari. Is this something that will be produced? I assume so since the site took the pre order. I only ask because if there were not going to be any more large versions produced I would cancel that order, and order a small version instead. The small ones seem to be available, and not pre order. If you are going to produce the large versions to fill the pre orders I will leave it alone. I would prefer the large version and do not mind waiting. Maybe I just misunderstood that part of the video.
Yes, I am placing another order for the large to fulfill the pre-orders I captured after my stock ran out. That order is being placed this week and it’s going to be my last run. Likely to take approx 40 days.
So i am from the UK. The Mini is out of stock . Is it just a case of 1st come 1st served when new stock comes in or is there something else ? . Thank You
