Myke hit the nail on the head. The reason why he's huge is because we connected with him. Not because he was super deep our thoughtful but he had a sincere blunt and honest emotions that people who felt the same way connected to. With new info with X admitting to it, I'm not surprised or defending it. I've always said that I believed he did it, but I don't believe all the extra shit. I believed he lost it and beat the fuck out of her, but she obviously wasn't pregnant and I don't believe the BBQ fork shit or the water boarding shit or what not, but who knows? X had done plenty of shitty an violent things out side of that. But he did change and he did start to become or try to become what Myke said that Vic should become with out admitting to it since he was battling jail time. That's what makes his death sad because it seemed like he learned. But it also seemed like his death was all of his fucked up shit coming back to get him if I ever believed in karma. Honestly, the biggest problem I have with Vic doing this aside from what everybody else said is that nobody looked up to him for his abuse. People liked him for his music and because he spoke to troubled people. I get annoyed with this whole idea that just because I'm a fan of somebody means I'm going to do or emulate or accept everything they do. I'm a fan of Vic. I'm not going to cancel him for his past. I'm also not going to condone it either. I expect better from him rather than this arrogant, fake and vapid virtue signaling to try and create the appearance of superiority. Hip hop has a problem with abuse and misogyny that does need to be addressed though. I think a bigger step is to realize that it has an even bigger problem with mental health because healthy brains don't abuse.

XXX admitted to it on tape. It's a shame it didn't come out when he was alive we did not have it to base our opinions on XXX. What was clear however, was that XXXtentacion was changing his life around before he died. Vic Mensa also admitted to abusing one of his exes; there are plenty of rappers with such allegations that are alive. However, Xxx's taped confession somewhat vindicates him.

BET definitely deserved some blame. It was clear as hell that they were trying to hype up the show. Why else would his verse leak before the show even aired.

I think XXX did it and the audio of him admitting it released today, but all the trauma and pain that XXX's mother went through because of this situation is on BET. They knew XXX's mother would be in the audience and decided to air the Vic's verse anyway in order to bring more eyes onto their award show. If they felt Vic's versed crossed a line they could have cut it from the show.

I just think of it like this. What he did was wrong and there’s no excuse for it. I’m not hating on people still going on about him that’s fine I understand. I acknowledge his terrible past actions. I just feel like we’re not going anywhere with this conversation because X is dead. Hes dead what else do you want us to do? He’s paid the price for his past. There’s nothing else. Now can we talk about abusers who are still alive and can actually have an effect on? Vic Mensa made a cypher about a dead man. Why didn’t he speak on people who are alive in hip hop and are abusers. X is dead. Now move on to the next rapper. Including yourself, Vic Mensa.

I understand Myke's point on instead of blaming other abusers, coming out AS one, but if Vic was going to be a winner of an award, that would be an awkward situation that could have cost him his win. It's an awkward situation all around., but there is still time for people to approach that stance.

No matter what the evidence is/was or what you think about it, I'll leave it like this, this man's life was cut short at 20 before him being able to redeem or explain himself. Vic was in the wrong here, there was no reason to speak on that dead man's head.

X did do it. Y'all are dumb claiming that all DV is as serious. X faced an extreme case. A couple having a heated argument is also verbal DV. Vic choking his girl is obviously bad but no way as bad as what X did which was damage that chick's eye. So stop the false comparison. X was also accused of sexual assault too. Vic went at X because he didn't like X stans and fans treating him like a legend and trying to downplay not just DV but the extreme case of DV that X faced charges on. And, DV songs should be made by rappers it's a serious issue that should be covered. Vic wasn't wrong for raping about X but the timing was too soon after he passed. He did make an apology song so he knows he made a mistake.

Also y'all. Vic has spoken about it many times since that interview 2-3 years ago. He mentioned it even more on his album The Autobiography. And I actually think he was apart of helping out charities for women who have gotten out of domestic abuse relationships in the city of Chicago. Y'all really can't say that he hasn't changed his ways since his own domestic abuse stuff. He exposed himself, held himself accountable, still beats himself up over it (not really necessary but aye whatever), and then he started working on himself and has helped to at least prevent it from happening to women in his city. These are things y'all can easily find out by just looking through dude's IG page lol

Vic Mensa had plenty of men, alive and in the game, to put on blast - as Myke and Feefo pointed out, it might've been even more powerful had he used his own situation as a means of expanding the dialogue surrounding hip-hop and domestic abuse. Instead, all he really did with this stunt was give more attention to a (self-confessed) abuser and rile up his fan base unnecessarily, while denying any growth on behalf of the wider culture. And that is frustrating as hell! Loving the slate of discussions y'all been putting out - keep on keepin' on! Get to 250k! It's gonna be there sooner than y'all know!

I don’t think what Vic Mensa said was that bad. However, if his intention really was to call out domestic abusers and the culture within hip-hop that excuses and enables them, then I think he failed. The way in which Mensa delivered this message made it so the focus of the resulting conversation is being placed on himself and Xxxtentacion - not on the wider culture, which was his stated intention. I don’t think Vic Mensa is cynical enough to have done all of this for clout, but I feel he should have thought some more about how he wanted to deliver this statement.
