What fight were you guys watching??? Saldivar was the aggressor the whole fight and came forward every round. Saldivar's punches were harder!

The result of this fight was not controversial at all. The neutral judges, one English and two Italians, had Saldivar ahead by a margin of 3 to 4 points .

I honestly think Fammo was going to retire after this fight no matter what happened. Johnny did not really enjoy fighting. It was a way to earn a good living and he hoped to get out of the game with his brain in tact. He certainly didn't take any risks in this fight. Ironically, he was permanently brain damaged when hit by a car.

I do remember this fight. It wasn't long after the introduction of a sunday paper in GASP gasp... COLOUR.. The front page was half filled with a foto of the two after the fight which fammo clearly won. No great story but the foto showed fammo in a sweat and salvidar having had a thorough belting around the head and face was so obvious. what grabbed you was the caption. Over the side by side foto was over fammo the word vanquished and over salvidar the word victor and memory slowing either a question or exclaimation mark. The theft was so bloody obvious and wonder of wonders pre-" have I got a deal for you " don king

Famechon was absolutely robbed. He boxed Saldivar's ears off. It was an example of the sort of collusion you get when everyone's agreed on the historical inevitability of an outcome. Saldivar was the comebacking hero. Fammo was never in favour with American promoters. The sling across the chest that was counted as a knockdown was duly reported as a knockdown by Ring and Boxing Illustrated magazines without any reference to the fact that it wasn't a punch. Famechon, in fact, probably won that round. Aussie commentator, Ron Casey, reported that Saldivar had got the decision before it was even announced, because he saw the judges turning around and reassuring those around them that Saldivar had won. Because Famechon was Australian, the injustices against him were never brought up again, and he's never mentioned in discussions of the great featherweights, despite the fact that he was the only world featherweight champion at the time to retire without a KO loss on his record. See also Carruthers, Darcy, Griffo, Jack Carroll, Dave Sands. There's no way American promoters were going to have Aussies run off with "their" titles. Funny thing is, Saldivar lost his title ny kayo to Kuniaki Shibata, a man Fammo would have had for breakfast.

What a crap decision....Saldivar hardly won a round!
