I have this meter Martin. Thank you for the series. It has proven invaluable.

I have a 121GW and a 869s and a 4mv different in the readings. It bothers me but than I have to say, its not a problem at all. 4mv in the V reading mode will not harm anything when measuring voltages.

The temp potentiometer is for adjusting the thermocouple cold-junction. TCs only shows the temp difference between the cold and hot junctions. You have to know the temp of the cold junction in order to know the absolute temp. The cold junction temp is measured by a PTC or diode, and needs adjustments.

Thanks Martin...did you get readings closer to spec when you used a sine vs. square wave? Square wave is a pretty radical change from sine and thus a indicator of the true RMS functionality and specs.

All ranges are like that in accuracy, including the high-end equipment. If the company is honest, it will be within their manual. HP, Fluke, and ESI showed this in their manuals as well.

Difficult friend to adjust this multimeter, is the adjustment trimpot multivolts or is it common? his resistance is how many percent accurate? 1%, 0.5%, 0.1% or less What is the best 61/2 dig bench multimeter today? Fluke, Agilent, Rigol, Tektronix etc

The trim capacitors are parallel with the input voltage divider. The 10Mohm has a few pF parallel with it, the 1Mohm has 10 times as much minus input capacity in circuit, the 100kOhm has 100 times as much again minus input capacity in circuit, etc. This way the input voltage divider will will have the same divider ratio over the full frequency range, at least if the capacitors are precise. To get that some of the parallel capacitors are trim capacitors or supplemented with trim capacitors. The capacitors must to be adjusted with a high frequency sine wave, exactly how high depends on what will give the best match to the specifications. In my article about multimeter design I write a bit about it.

(points to 3458A) "This is a fairly accurate multimeter." Why, yes... yes it is.

Hello good morning I want to buy a professional multimeter and I am looking at the Fluke 87V or the Hioki dt4282. Which one would you advise me? Thanks and best regards.

I have the 87V, but if you want a very accurate and speedy multimeter, I just can say Agilent U1273A! Killer meter!

@@pacomassa1379 Thank you very much, it seems that it is difficult to advise you to choose a quality multimeter.

@@rubenperez232 Not that difficult if we have some more info regarding what requirements that have to be meet, "professional" and "quality" is just not enough, frankly speaking these two words do not tell that much. The same goes to choose between two specific models of multimeter, without any info regarding the usage, and usage environment, then any advise is impossibly.

@@K2teknik. It is true you are excuse me, I am an industrial electrician I would be looking for a multimeter that measures voltage ac, dc, continuity, capacitors, diodes, amps that is rms because I usually measure a lot at the output of the variators and if you have any extra, I do not Thank you.

@@rubenperez232 Then I think you are looking for a CAT IV rated multimeter from a recognised brand, Fluke 87V, or 28 could be used, and the Hioki dt4282 is ok too and many others, if you can try some different multimeter (from colleges?) then that would be best, not all people like the same thing, if the CAT rating is fitting for your job then all the other spec. will most like do too. For more info on CAT rating content.fluke.com/promotions/promo-dmm/0518-dmm-campaign/dmm/fluke_dmm-chfr/files/safetyguidelines.pdf maybe you can go down to CAT III, but it all depend on your working environment, and remember that your test leads should fit for the CAT rating too.
