What is very interesting is that since jack is the one who tells what happened you don't know whats real. Like the lady in the car at the start might have told him nothing at all and he just imagined being called a serial killer because, well he is
This is exactly what I was thinking! Yes, there are Karens out there but no sane person would constantly insult the person actually helping them while specifically insinuating them to be murderers. That part was too specific that I really think it was all in his head.
Exactly!! I’m pretty sure they actually said that in an interview at one point too everyone else saying that she deserved it really just shows how well they incorporated his narcissistic personality into the narrative of the film!
Yea but she had several chances to shut the hell up like she’s in the presence of serial killer and twice he was going to let her go she just had to keep her mouth shut.
it disturbs me seeing so many people in this comment section saying they/specifically the first women deserved to die, especially when many of them have channel names that suggest they’re men. sure some made poor decisions and if it wasn’t actually a case of unreliable narrator that first woman did deserve some form of punishment but we’re literally talking about _death_ here. something that gives no second chances. it’s permanent. i don’t think people really think about it when they say she deserved to die but in a way that just reveals some problems with society
@@Akon1998hell movies don’t exist in a vacuum dude 😂 especially a comment section under a video about the movie frequented by average members of society. like it or not, this reflects some common views in society which are unfair, like imagine being a single parent wanting to go on a date with this sweet guy you just met who’s even okay with you bringing your children and getting massacred and after your death people are blaming you for it… smh i get the difference between fiction and reality but if people are wholeheartedly saying this shit about fictional women, who’s to say they won’t about real life women?
"The woman exclaims that jack can't be a serial killer, because he's-" A. A decent person B. A wise fellow C. A good samaritan D. A wimp Choose wisely before you call a stranger something. It could save your life.
Ya idk what would possess you to Call a grown man a wimp especially after he's literally drove you to and from and attempted to fix your vehicle maybe she was suicidal or wanted to be punched on
I think it was all in his mind, she probably didn't say those things but in his mind that's how he picture and that was the trigger for his first kill. After that you can see that he didn't even need to be triggered as he had a liking for it.
07:45 At first, I thought "no cop would be this careless/dense" Then I remembered the cops that took a 14 year old boy back to Jeffery Dahmers apartment 🤦🏾
it might be resource intensive, but i still feel like police officers and people in public service should hope for the best, prepare for the worst when someone is saying something that outlandish (because it is a highly doubtful claim to the average member of society) but that doesn’t mean they should write it off entirely like that officer did. resource intensive bc if every claim were taken seriously, it could take hours of time or whatever to resolve them but it should still be worth it in the case the victim is actually being pursued by a killer or sth god this is a long comment
“Verge” is a reference to Virgil, the ancient Roman poet who wrote the Aenied. Virgil is also the character that escorts Dante through parts of hell in Dante’s Divine Comedy and represents human reason. I assume that “Verge” and the whole plot is the main character’s psycho “artist” brain and rational brain having a conversation as he’s about to finally be caught and realizing he’s going to hell.
It's important to realize that Jack isn't a reliable narrator, and how the women acted were purely from Jack's perspective. We never see an outside character's perspective.
Thats a very good point, I sometimes hear people say things they didn't. Its hard to hold a personal narrative on people when you might have just been hearing things.
@@drphot6050 yeah, but there’s a lot of idiots lower in the comments that don’t understand that you probably shouldn’t take the word of a mentally unstable sociopath as gospel, so it’s worth restating.

not enough people discuss the irony in how jack was caught. despite how reckless he got towards the end of his “career”, he was only caught because they suspected him of a completely unrelated crime someone committed, and he panicked.
this is litterly the case of most serial killers. there were these 2 men who filmed everything they did and even biult an underground space for it all, they kidnaped a LOT of ppl and didnt get caught until one of em fked up and tried to steel smthn
damn because it’s fiction i didnt even think to suspect the director lmao but there’s always the case like that guy who sang about having skulls in his home actually having skulls in his home (though some ppl said that was a fake screenshot, but still)
as a casual hunter myself, one thing you failed to realize is that, an animal predator only hunts other species for food. the only reason they attack their own specie is for territory, self-defense and mate. its funny to think that he considers himself a hunter.
As a casual RU-vid commentor myself One thing that you failed to realize was that he was playing a character inside a character inside a movie for him to murder a female with two kids and he is not an actual hunter who is not concerned with hunting game but instead he is more concerned about trying to commit murder. Like OK dude we get it dude you hunt VERY cool dood LoL
It's one of the most fucked up movies ever, and the thing is that it doesn't seem as forcefully edgy as A Serbian Film or something similar, Jack really feels like a realistic psychopathic serial killer (with a dose of dark humor added). It's like the director is a genuine psycho himself. But as weird and disturbing as it is, I found it very interesting, imo it had the right combination of substance and Von Trier's "artsy" style.
Definitely two different types of “edgy” movies. A Serbian Film was just all wrong, this one was just the typical serial killer movie, but then they jump ship and mess the entire thing up at the end with the magically he builds a house and a hole is inside of it in the floor all while it takes the cops to pull up and come in. Those cops must have Storm Trooper reflexes or something if they taking so long that he could string bodies up into a shape of a mini house and a hole can get cut into the metal floor.
As evil as Jack was he wasn’t even meant to end up in the lowest pits of hell, he was a few levels up. Makes you wonder what kind of a monster is meant to end up in the lowest pits of hell!
Agreed, Jack's efforts weren't in vain as he did end up making a house both he looked satisfied with, and Verge himself though was quite fine, but no sin ever goes unpunished. Jack still had to murder several women which is sickening, and to add fuel to the flame, he took the lives of two children, but it doesn't end there, he piled up the corpses as if their lives weren't any greater than his and proceeded to deem it as "art". Nonetheless, he is a sociopathic killer after all, but even his arrogance and selfishness isn't a reason to not blame him for his deeds, as the only person who is at fault for his issues is himself. Oh wait he wouldn't care anyways, he's a sociopath hah.
No, he is telling his story to Virgil on his way to hell. There are moments when Virgil even tells that is dificult to breath because the acid and it happens during his narration. The narration starts when he is killed by the police, what we see are his memories while he tells the story (he even asks if he must remain silent or they can speak Virgil tells him they can speak so Jack begins explaining him the story of how he became what he is). The moment he opens that door the one for some reason he never could open before (probably because it never existed) and enters the room where Virgil awaits him he is already dead shot by the police. He never arrived to build his house, something he is really obsessed with, so for them to be able to leave he must not have this unfinished business therfore Virgil suggests him to build the house using the materials around him (the corpses) again it's something happening in the afterlife he never arrived to do that. We don't see the police actually shooting him or him dying because he probaly was killed on spot and doesn't remember that part yet he understand he is dead, and where he is guided by Virgil who he nicknames as ''Verge''. Why he is so tranquil, doesn't question a man inside the no existent room and seems to go along with that? Because he built that corpse house, his opus magnum therfore his soul must and can leave, to hell in his case. Virgil must have had guided a lot of sick people he knows the drill.
@@jetacysdelights2695 actually you hear a gunshot just as jack jumps down the hole into hell so its likely he got fatally shot by a cop who just entered and saw his "masterpiece" and the whole talks with virgil was just his last dying hallucination which actually makes it more intriguing as it means somewhere deep down in his psyche jack new what he was doing was wrong and new someone like him deserved to be in hell.
It’s a really terrifying movie. One minute he’s telling the young boy about how to hunt. Next minute he’s hunting *them*. And the next he’s forcing the mother to feed her dead sons.
This is my first time finding out what the house that jack is building actually is. I’m surprised there was no spoilers even after the movie showed. I had no idea he literally built a house with his victim’s bldies
@Aluzky alternate paragraph "I dont like people because they live life and eat like they're supposed to so I become a cringey man child. I also dont like non vegans so I hope they all burn." Am I close?
Bro ngl I feel like the woman at the beginning was almost asking to be killed talking to a stranger like that. WTF! It's like she was provoking him to do something.
Money means resources. Resources means you can do mpre heinous fucked up shit. These people want to prop themselves up into position where they can fulfill every single dark desire they have. Its a drug for them. You know how it feels when u look into the smoke bag and ur all out weed AND u already scraped the bowl 3 times? Yea serial killers in a position like that get wildly sloppy. And since the smartest killers are aware that sloppy means getting caught, the solution is simple for a psychopathic murderer; make sure you have plenty of resources.
Cause it gives TV shows more options for scenes. If he's rich then the producers have the ability to make scenes that would otherwise be not possible as someone poor.
If you have psychopathic tendencies you’re usually disagreeable. And being disagreeable makes you better at business and so the better you are at business and work the more you likely get paid. This is obviously not the case for all people with psychopathy, but statistically you’re more likely to be successful in business as a psychopath (in most cases, obviously not for specific jobs that clash with psychopathy)
Sociopath. Some are created by their upbringing, some people create an imaginary state of such great difference to make them feel better about being miserable and numb. So they can justify their actions later.
@Jimin-Ness As an artist myself. I can your statement being true but I can't bring myself to actually say that myself. It takes a sick man to make children suffer, even in a fictional setting. You can't call it creativity, it all comes from somewhere. Somewhere deep down this has value to the director and that right there is a concerning thing.
I’d never heard of this film, this is why I like this Channel. I always end up finding films I might like, there was one I watched yesterday about an ancient Indian deity which gave gold coins for flour.
@@Arkisofficial The entire movie takes place between the time he dies (killed by police) and his confessional journey to hell. Verge is simply there to guide him to hell… and the movie is just a flashback to the sins he committed to earn the eventual spot in hell he received.
@@randomnessltd I saw both the original, and the sequel. Did I enjoy it? Not really. Why would I subject myself to something I don't like? Which has nothing to do with the degree of a wimp that I am. Logic, and common sense is a trait lost to some. Who am I to chastise them?
They still haven't made a movie about whites be enslaved by blacks in alternate reality. A movie that surely make everyone uncomfortable but realize all that pain actually happen. A movie like that will surely awaken some people.
@@LXW-Arts I know of a movie that kiiinda fits that description? Or I remember it from some obscure movie YT channel years ago though I don’t remember it’s title. It was about slavery in the US South and the two main characters were slaves who were brothers, but one was a regular black guy and the other was a so called “albino black man” named Sunny or Sunshine. And played by a regular white dude. It was from the 70s or 80s. Just a film where ppl look at a white guy and treat him like a black slave for no reason. Thinking about it now, the movie wouldn’t “awaken some people” bc it was just an exploitative, racist piece of garbage. The imaginary movie you’re wishing for would be the same lol
@@LXW-Arts White people have been enslaved by black multiple times, there has been more white slaves, and indian slaves, and other slaves than black slaves. lol Its just american media making black slaves in america something huge, and big. There was a video with a guy explaining this in great detail, black slavery in america is not even something to talk about, slavery was a thing back then, and has been for a long time, asians were enslaved millions more than blacks, and whites too. To be honest the slavery card, and BLM should just go away, they dont understand that american slavery is not even 1% of all the slavery that's been going on, every person on this planet could have a right to get compensated on their ancestors behalf. Whites too.
I used to watch horror movies alot when i was in 12 th grade and i used to watch alone since other friends are too scared to watch all these movies. But after watching too much it made me depressed so much. And there was a feeling of some kind, like some creepy shit. I don't even know how to describe. So, this is not the behavior of a sociopath...it is the behavior of a psychopath however, and this seems to be an excessively commonplace mistake people make, along with the assumption they are effectively interchangeable. At least he calls him a psychopath during the video.
Tbf, people aren't usually taught the difference. Society doesn't seem to care about the difference, only that different=bad and scary. It's a sad reality
I think the door isn’t actually a door, it represents jacks mind when his conscience starts to come in. When he realizes that he is gonna get caught and will go to hell for what he has done.
So I'm guessing the symbolism at the end is Jack attempting to escape capture ended up drowning. Then on the way to hell get gets a glimpse of what heaven is like and decides he wants that too (the guy who always seemed to get what he wants). Then in a fitting end, the exit is dangled in front of him only to fall into the pit finally being denied of something he wants.
same this has only been a trend for a couple months now there are so many channels. "Back in the old days they had robotic voices telling these stories"
I think it’s like Dante’s inferno sorta where he’s having him reflect but also like Charon and guiding him to hell. So idk whatever you would call that kinda spirit, he’s probably guided lots of souls but rn he’s just there for jack.
I never checked this movie out. The title is so unassuming, and doesn’t give away anything about what the movie is about, unless you take it super literally, and even then I don’t think I’d have thought this plot up, just by the title alone. Now I feel kinda silly for not at least reading a wiki article or something. This movie sounds insane, and definitely something I’d like to see at least once, as a horror movie fan.
I'm reminded truly of Oscar Wilde's comment about there being no morality in a work of art as he introduced Picture of Dorian Grey, and yet that in fact was the very core. This takes it to a whole new level! I don't think I could watch this, already too disturbed- but yes it's a beautiful, contemplative piece. Also interesting that one of the two protagonists of Wings of Desire was chosen for this. Lars Von Trier is brilliant, and this was a very wise artistic choice
The symbolism towards the end of Jack visiting hell ruins it for me. I hate it when a movie goes from fairly realistic to fantastical especially just for the sake of pretension.
in was all fake he imagined that he went to hell when he didnt just like how the women at the beginning wasn't really talking about him being a murderer hes just made it all up in his head
I mean, this is a movie about a man recounting his murders with unreliable narration to Virgil from Dante's Inferno. Him going to hell is neither a twist nor more pretentious than any of the rest of the movie.
When you click on the title thinking you about to watch some Jack guy build a house and reap the benefits of this proud achievement. Caught slipping and fucked me up.. Solid movie
@@Lightnatural Ok it's beautiful I understand that and it looks very good as well but at what cost?? Killing people and making a home out of it:sure it is beautiful but we should never encourage such people and sorry for going overboard but anyways thanks for replying bro
Nietzsche+ dante + psychopath = serial killer? This is what happens when you skip the prologue and editors notes. They literally say these books are just for thinking over. Not actionary material.
Sociopaths are entitled fools. Take for example when he openly stated he was a murderer to a cop, or when he opened his "breast wallet" in front of the shop owner, thinking he wasn't going to receive any punishment. He tried traversing the wall because he though he was so special that even after hearing from Verge that no one has succeeded traversing the wall, he though to himself that out of every person who has tried, he was going to be the one.
It really is. I understand having dark movies, but stuff like this is rarely enjoyable to watch, and it’s always just sickening. Stuff like the human centipede makes me feel uncomfortable in a bad way. Again, I love dark and depressing movies, but these aren’t even fun to watch.
@@noise3312 you don't watch horror movies to have a laugh, if you're too light hearted then don't watch, it doesn't mean it's "sickening", it means its darker and takes itself seriously
No actually, the ending was about how Jack was dealing with a illness the whole time and being a complete psycho while also getting caught by the cops so his minds goes straight to hell as said in a interview by Lars
I suppose writing the victims of psychopaths as "deserving" disturbs the viewer into identifying with the protagonist for engament. Not to side with its dark but to draw interest using complicated judgments.
