Great Video's. We ( United States) were still a manufacturing power-house at that time ! Good to see. Some signs around the edges were fraying a little. There was still a lot of work. The hammer wouldn't fall on manufacturing until NAFTA in the 90's. such a shame, 70's had great music also. My old man still had a good job until 76'. Oh well, what could a kid do but watch trains. Didn't see the storms heading our way.
It wasn't just NAFTA. The Northeast jobs moved to the Southeast and West during the 60's, and then Japan. Everything east of Indianapolis was a skeleton before the 70's. NAFTA was just the most recent successful search for cheap labor. Next up: robots. There's still allot of "fat to trim" in order to allow those 401k's to perpetually increase in value.
Our house is the closest to the trains and i see them out my window since im the closest to them, they go by constantly through out all day and night. Our house use to be rest stop for train workers too
Nice video from the mid-1970s! I love the vintage trains, vintage railroad companies, especially the B&O, Chessie System, and the N&W! I also like the fact that this video was filmed in Toledo back in the day and also the fact that this video has sound, which most of the videos filmed like this one didn’t have back then! Really nice!
I wish there was more to this, but nonetheless great video. I absolutely love vintage railroad videos such as this one. I am very familiar with the toledo area rails so if at all possible please keep posting more please
