It was owned by a sultan in Oman.

It was the Sultan of Oman's Royal Flight VC10. My father flew it for a number of years before retiring.

I marshalled it in to Brize once when the Sultan came to visit UK. We were allowed on board after he disembarked. stunning fit out then.

Back in 1978,I was stationed on Bermuda,in A USN P-3 Orion squadron. I used to see BOAC operate VC-10's there,seems like a million years ago.

Thank you so much! I had an RAF training captain teach me Flight Planning and OPS Procedures, and the VC10 stories I heard are uncountable, it was amazing to see the aircraft in real life.

Wonderful machine. When I was a kid my uncle flew these for many years in Brazil as a captain for VASP Airlines and he loved them. Then, in 1969, VASP entered the jet era and the Viscount were replaced by B727 and B737.

My family flew from KJFK to Sydney (YSSY) in the BOAC VC-10 in 1970. after 5 stop overs it took 36 hours. I was 10 at the time. Awesome flight and we were fed constantly. It was so much fun. I still remember it as one of my childhood best memories.

I worked VC10s during the final year of my BOAC engineering apprenticeship. Superior in every way to the B707 except making money. Very annoying that the flt deck is referred to as the cockpit. Many people make this mistake. Spitfire, F16 etc have cockpits. Airliners, bombers and large transports have flight decks or Airbuses have control cabins. Aircraft airplanes,aeroplanes, but never planes!!

I got to fly in a BOAC VC10 from London to Sydney via the US in 1970. My first ever flight in any aircraft. I was invited to see the cockpit and was very impressed with the view out of the front. All those dials and controls were a little overwhelming to an 11 year old me. We were seated above the wing and I thought it was falling apart when the spoilers deployed on landing. Beautiful aircraft, thanks for sharing.

@@greatflyer_aviation It was loud and as a first time flyer I thought the whole flight would be like that. It wasn't as loud as the 727 we got onboard on the hop into Melbourne. A few years later I got to fly in a DC9 now that was really loud compared to the VC10. Just as an aside, I was given a BOAC flight log, a little royal blue book with gold lettering and I think it had a speedbird on the cover. It has spaces that the captain could fill in such as origin, destination, aircraft registration and such. I haven't seen it since the 70's and I"m hoping my parents have it tucked away somewhere. My dad said it was defaced by letting the Ansett flight crew record the SYD to MEB 727 flight.

I have a vintage altimeter, I've just realised I've got the exact same model sitting on my desk like the one in this aircraft. I never realised where it was from!

I would love to own the front end of one of these or the Trident as a Radio amateur shack in my garden with of course the HF radio... Great plane used to listen to them on way back from Falkland islands on 8861 Khz positioning.. Buy wonderful VC 10..

Love this plane. There’s one of these at East Midlands Aeropark and usually they give you a tour of the cabin and the cockpit. It’s a really cool looking aircraft, and the cockpit looks really complicated 😂😂

I can't recall the year but my wife and I flew from Toronto to I think Manchester, it was the last flight for the aircraft at least for british airways, still can remember the stewardess telling us about the last flight, fond memories.

@@greatflyer_aviation The flight was comfortable and smooth, we had no idea the flight would be on a VC10 and at the airport I thought I heard someone mention DC10 and at that time the DC10 was having its problems with engines falling off etc so it was quite a relief to discover it was indeed a VC10 :) regards Mike.

Best looking airliner ever & still fastest sub sonic. I had many trips on them courtesy of RAF. The cockpit looks like it's from a Lancaster! It doesn't quite match up to the rest of the plane behind it. Left Hand Down A Bit..

I was on the Vc10 when it broke the speed record for a subsonic aircraft . I was cabin crew then .

@@greatflyer_aviation it was a wonderful aircraft if you get a chance to go to duxford museum GASGC is on display this was the very aircraft that broke the record and I did my supernumerary on this very aircraft to Bermuda I really miss my flying especially the Vc10 but after 32 years up in the clouds I guess we all have to retire lol

Why is this aircraft in so many ways similar to the IL-62 which had its maiden flight just two years after the VC10?

@@greatflyer_aviation, @Filippo Reutener, I use to think that as well up until recently, when I watched a YT video that explores the history of the development of both; the VC-10 and the IL-62, that video shows that apart from the features that stand out visually like the layout of the 4 engines mounted at the tail; both airframes have very few in common regarding their operational purposes, aeronautical engineering (e.g the center of gravity is radically different between the two airframes, wing design - a whole world apart... etc.) and performance. many aviation enthusiasts believe that il-62 is a soviet ripoff "VC-10'sky" because of the obvious visual (rough) resemblance and because they where both designed at about the same period, but even when looking only at the visual details and proportions with guidance from that video I mentioned and with some attention to detail - you can see that they are actually completely different airplanes for different purposes.
