With Vicksburg trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning and Maddison Diekamn on first base, Emily Zemitans, on an 0-2 count, smacked a single to right field to keep the Bulldogs' season alive in Saturday's Division 2 state championship game against Gaylord.
Yet, it did much more.
Upon rounding first base, the junior collided with Gaylord first baseman Kennedy Wangler, jarring the throw in from right field loose and allowing Diekman to score all the way from first, which tied the score, 2-2, and sent the game into extra innings.
