"Why does Udham need to be a myth? Why can't he be one among us." The most beautiful line in this interview. This is the reason why this trailer, and Shershah are getting positive responses. The effort of not turning it into a chest thumping patriotic cash grab, and rather humanising the heroes so that the common people can relate to them, is being seen and being appreciated.
@Arya-cs7kj
@Arya-cs7kj 2 года назад
Can't say much about Udham but Shershaah didn't humanize the character at all. The film was clearly not interested to know the reason behind the title character's motives. It's was like on autopilot mode following a traditional-bollywood- biopic-plot.
@subhranilsinha8412
@subhranilsinha8412 2 года назад
@@Arya-cs7kj it might not have shown his motives clearly, but it didn't elevate him to a mythical character who cannot be found on this planet. He walked and talked like a normal human being. He smoked and drank. This might not be a big thing, but in bollywood where we get films like Bhuj, this is a good step forward.

I feel in terms of physical work nd playing a younger Udham....Vicky Kaushal has an upper hand over Irrfan bcoz...the scenes of younger Udham during Jalianwallabagh massacre, the scene where he carries alive people on the cart....the kind of physical exhaustion it demands...nd the looks, i dnt think Irrfan would be suitable for that.... This is with Huge Respect for Legendary Irrfan Khan...

This generation of actors are sadly facing too much competition all around, thanks to so many different actors coming now and how popular OTT (Scam 1992, Pataal Lok, Mirzyapur, Asur, Sacred Games etc) has become after the pandemic. Sadly we will not see the superstar era coming back anymore, the last one being Hrithik Roshan. No one after him had that kind of impact, sadly. No one has been able to win the hearts of the masses and the classes consistently since Hrithik, which is sad to see. END OF AN ERA!

I don't think jingoism is the right word to use in this context! When you are in a position of powerlessness and fight back because you are haunted by images of exploitation of fellow human beings, can that be called jingoism? It's fighting against oppression more than anything else! Uri can still be called jingoistic to a certain extent but I don't think that term applies to this character at all!
@neetuhareet9431

@@neetuhareet9431 It's not about finding morality, it's about being truthful. Not everything black and white. If you portray terrorism as one sided thing you're going mislead people into thinking that's what terrorism. Without regard for how it came about, and the events that led up to it. With Jingoism you don't do that, it's always " They're the bad guys, we're the good guys." Or "They're bad because they're from there, and we're good because we're from here."
@ananyaa6664
@ananyaa6664 2 года назад
@@neetuhareet9431 When Udham Singh fought, he fought because he understood the oppressors to be representing the imperialist class and its exploitation. Freedom fighters don't fight just because of their difference from the "other" or because "the other" is in power. They fight with a solid knowledge of socio-economic conditions and all other factors that lie behind that oppression. The fight of Udham Singh was against oppression and imperialism, represented by the British. Jingoism is a completely different concept. It's just about I don't like you because to me, you are just bad, without a better undertsanding of the context of the creation of such a perception. It's difficult for a layman to grasp the complete context of say the relation between India and Paksitan, terrorism, etc but the narrative about how "we need to save ourselves against an enemy" is very attractive to human psychology, and jingoism starts from there. Sad part is normal people for whom the black and white narrative is easy to digest and complex intellectual understanding is difficult become the victim to political games and movies like Uri play on such psychology. I am the last person to defend Paksitan or terrorists. Infact, in this regard Pakistanis are greater fools than us I believe. But the way Indians are made fool of by creating illusions of victory while the real enemies like poverty, lack of education and health facilities, the fact that 30% population of India survives on an income of Rs.30/day are swept under the carpet is the sad part. Jingoism makes fool of people by making them focus on things like religion, war, because when they do that, they will stop asking questions about the relevant issues and these issues will seem boring to people just like I am sure by this time you too are bored reading my comment. Remember, what we think is also controlled by the society we live in. Capitalism needs jingoism to survive. And we give in to it.

Film Companion is not very comfortable with patriotic films even when based on true facts. The word jingoism is liberally used by this Vodka Biryani brigade. A whole hearted acceptance of a Sardar Udham Singh story is difficult for these folks to digest. The word jingoism will creep in to their narrative whether it is related to Uri, Shershah or vintage historical films on bravehearts.

Host always bringing in Leftists Propaganda. There is no Jingoism in India. You need to follow other countries to understand what Jingoism truly is. India is most non-jingoistic country in the world, bar few. If you call us Jingoist, we Indians and Udham Singh thinks same, so you are calling Udham Singh Jingoist.
