I loved the mayor of casterbridge soo much as well as the importance of being Ernest. Oh and lastly you know I adore the brontes so Agnes grey is bloody fantastic
I loved The Mayor of Casterbridge and Agnes Grey so much!! I'm going to listen to The Importance of Being Earnest, and maybe War of the Worlds the radio broadcast. I've already started Doctor Thorne and i might through in The Moonstone but I'll definitely be reading a few Sherlock short stories so i can make a dent in the Adventures of Sherlock. Oh and I'm reading The Trumpet Major by Hardy with a group.
I think you will LOVE The Mayor of C by Thomas Hardy. The stage production of The Importance of Being Earnest was fun and I think you’ll get a kick out of reading it. I’m reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. And I’ll probably read another Sherlock Holmes short story for Alice. (Cloud C L is my main one for Alice though)
I think I’ll love Mayor of C too - very excited for that one!! I read The Woman in White years ago, it’s probably due a reread at some point. Happy Victober matey!!
Ooo Agnes Grey is a good shout, I think I have that knocking around unread too. I've read all of Sherlock Holmes multiple times so I'm starting on his Sir Nigel books, which he insisted were better than Holmes (I've heard bits of them, they are not). The Time Machine is utterly bizarre in a good way.
Anne Brontë is my favorite Brontë! I'm actually going to be re-reading Charlotte's The Professor for this Victober, but I'm doing a Brontë event in March and Agnes Grey will be the group read for that one!
@@rachelbosworth2438 You go to challenges, then browse and then you can search for Victober 2024. Let me know if you have some difficulties. Unfortunately I can't put the link in here, because RU-vid deletes comments with links in it. But maybe, Gemma, you could add the link to the description box?

Well that was very realistic for a Gemma tbr!!! I think the importance of being earnest is so funny and if you ever get chance to see the play, it's brilliant. Looking forward to trying Audrey for Sherlock Holmes! Jo and I are going to start reading the mill on the floss, and I'd also like to pick up a dickens, but we shall see..
That’s only half the TBR though mate - part 2 is being filmed tomorrow 😂 I didn’t get in with Mill on the Floss. I have a feeling Elliot is just not for me 😬
If I am calming, you are energising! This list sounds great. I am very fond of Agnes Grey. It is gentle, sad, then happy all in a short book. The Mayor of Casterbridge is brilliant in that grim Hardy way.
I’m a recent M.E.B convert and so am definitely reading The Doctor’s Wife and then have a few buddy reads including rereading Jane Eyre after thirty years! What will I think now? 🤔
Great choices! Shame no Dickens!!! I read the Mayor of Casterbridge at school and it has such a brilliantly gripping opening that I was totally unable to put it down ,read it all in one go. First time I had ever done that with a 'proper' novel. Hope you will feel the same. Listen or watch a video of Importance of being Ernest,it's very funny. ❤Victober❤
👸 I'm no following them strictly, but I have several that fit... Wilke Collins Poor Miss Finch, Thomas Hardy (yes, you read that correctly - Deea is giving Thomas Hardy another chance) The Trumpet Major, Jerome K Jerome On the Bummel, Charles Spurgeon The Clue of the Maze, & Dickensland. 🤷♀ All of them are buddy reads so I will be reading them!🤣
Interesting! Of course I think Alice's choice of victorian author is the best!! The Importance of Being Earnest was not for me but I enjoyed Time Machine. I am currently reading Pillars by Follett and 7 others, so I doubt that any victorians get done in Oct. I miss out on a lot of booktube events because of my mood reading. Hope you enjoy all of your selections 😊.
@GemofBooks My biggest complaint so far is the weight of the trade paperback. About 2 lbs!! Just holding it is a pain in the neck - lol. I've only read about 80 pages so far (it's about 1000 😳). It's a beautifully written historical saga about building the awesome 12th century cathedrals in England without the benefit of engineers and big cranes. I may have to resort to an ebook because I can only read the physical book when it is propped up on something. I'll let you know my final verdict in a few weeks when I finish.
