I love the Doctor who reference since Richard Wilson (Victor Meldrew) was in an episode of Doctor who during Christopher Eccleston's time as The Doctor, and Annette Crosbie was in Matt Smith's first full episode of Doctor who
As someone who first saw this series about 20 years ago I was quite disturbed that I was a bit of a grouch like Victor and only in my 40s. Now that I am Victor's age in this series I would like to think that I am not quite as prickly anymore.
Brilliant comedy classic never be another Victor great cast brilliant writing no writers now to much x factor and Britain got talent thats all this is entertainment class
Can't believe I've only just noticed that the beer is called "Long Life". Quite ironic considering the show storyline but the opposite nearly happens here. 🤣
If I was the one who wrote this scene, I would have added a few more words in it and changed some of them, too... And here's how it would be according to me: "Victor, what are you doing? Take that off your head!" "I'm boiling, Margaret." "I have just put superglue on that glass." "What?!" "I've just stuck the bottom back in, where it had come out. Oh, my God!" "Aaaaaaah! No! Don't! Aaah!" "It's stuck-on solid!" "Don't pull at it, or you'll tear the skin away!" "Well, you know how quickly that stuff sets!" "Ohhh! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I just wished for this to happen one day! I asked for it! I prayed for this moment, this joyous moment when I've got a glassful of Inc. Coupe Bitter welded to my forehead for all eternity!" "Don't get up, or it'll spill everywhere!" "Well, I can't lie like this here forever, can I?! Like a bedridden Dalek!" "I'll get April to phone for an ambulance, to take you down to the hospital - they'll get it off in no time at all!" "Ohhhh! Oo-ee...! Ahh! And here's the next scene after that, just as normal: "Did you manage alright in the toilet?" "Yes. Thank you." "With one hand?" "Yes. Thank you!" "I suppose you can see their point. It's not an actual emergency, as such. And if we'd gone off and got stuck in the rush hour, you'd only have felt worse. Vince says he'll drive you down to casualty first thing. You'll feel better after a night's sleep." "I expect so, yes."
