@@tompain2751 What was correct his fear of immigrants who arrive on a schedule? What did people do before the cops had computer tracking and photo ID? How many of the 9/11 hijackers didn't have photo ID? Any reason to believe photo ID stops any real crime?
@@kimobrien. Photo ID, would sure make elections more secure, and so would in person voting. Illegal immigrants are a problem. Your mischaracterizations, of what he said, are pathetic.
I was glad to see he had notes in front of him. At first I thought he was going off the top of his head. I was feeling very inferior. Lol which is probably true anyway.
TV hosts do all the gabbing. The “interviews” are all about themselves and the “person of interest” is supposed to just “enjoy the same space with him/her.”
@@buttebears6108 - The problem with progessivism is that it has no reverence for wisdom. There is an old adage that comes to mind that is most applicable to western cultures current degredation - "If it aint broke, dont fix it"
Awesome! I cannot tell how blessed I feel we are for this man being on RU-vid and listening to his cogent, down to earth responses to the issues of today. I usually feel much better about our current predicament after listening to Dr. Hanson. True gem of America. Perhaps the best we have!
Mr. Hanson reminds me of a history teacher i had at Msgr. Bonner High School back in the early 70's....he got me to love history and the study of it God Bless you for all you do Mr. Hanson.....your the man!
Mr, Hanson does not march to the beat of the times, he's not politically correct, he's 'woke' deficient completely lacking in leftist neo-marxist wisdom - and that's a superb thing.

VDH is so wise. I am always amazed by how he can explain the most difficult subjects with such ease and everyday language that anyone can understand. An Absolutely fantastic man. God bless you dear sir.
Lucky you, Nick. I would love to meet my favorite professor. Too many people need entertainment to keep them interested. Dr. Hanson doesn’t go through histrionics, his voice doesn’t go up and down for dramatic effect, no dramatic pauses. Whether it’s Classical history, modern history and war, or current politics, he holds me in rapt attention every time.
100% correctly stated. Losing family/ togetherness holidays . Electronic rule . back, 88 yrs of my own life, our conduct was pretty much lived as VHD explained. Charity was a no no. Work ethics were taught early in life. You can become anything yout want , if YOU work. I'm happy l was born / raised during that Era.
I hated teenagers when I was one. Finding good company among my peers was a difficult endeavour and I, this is the 70s mind you, tended toward the company of adults.
That tells you the mind formation of those kids, like the interviewer, when they go to Hillsdale Colleqe. One of the few good institutions that remain in our country. Hope that they can continue for many more years.
This style of interview is very interesting. Its shot like a scene in a 90s sitcom as a conversation between two written characters except it's non fiction
I always stop to listen to any of the podcasts and/or videos in which Victor Davis Hanson is participating, conducting or interacting in any way. From conversations to speeches to interviews, he never fails to impress me with his knowledge of history, countries, peoples, events, or comments that enrich, engross, enlighten, compell, all of the above! He stimulates ideas, compelling you to listen and to think! I admire his life and contributions to education, rational thought, provocative and evocative discovery whether through his books, lectures, conversations, always exuding humility and grace! I wish someone would name him Man of the Year!! It may be 2022!!! Thank you for your generosity in sharing your work, thoughts and life experiences, always profoundly interesting! God bless you and your family!🌍🌎🌏👏❤💓💓🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Not that he is not sometimes interresint, but would you maybe explain to me what his apperent proposition that womans voting rights/citicenship (suffragettes) would be up to debate (a state issue) would mean to you?
Dr. Hanson is a universal treasure. I am a chilean that lives in Chile and I always listen to him. His believes, experience and culture applies to many people around the world like me. God bless him.
VDH is the wisest man in the world. I've listened to him speak for hundreds of hours, never heard him have a conversation with a young person. Very interesting.
God, this national treasure of knowledge and history needs to somehow be spared the rigors of time. We can’t afford to lose someone with this ability to explain things for how they really are. God Bless Victor Davis Hanson!!
Mr. Hanson is a remarkable man for many reasons. He is so richly informed on all important issues, his being a historian shows very clearly why all of us, especially politicians should be always life long history students. He is clearly understandable and I listen to him anywhere I may see him on my pc. I have some writings of his and they are as he...so easy to grasp what he says. If I was much younger and very well off I'd like to see that FOX or some TV/Internet had him on with at least MWF evenings on current things that need to be addressed, and so much more. This man should be running for office or in a very important position of influence in the WH or Congress. By the way, where is the other fine, solid, sensible Republicans or sound Democrats...I have not seen nor heard anything from the several we still have in U.S. that are men/women who we need to have out in public, battling this WH and etc, that is doing awful things to America.
This is one of the most intellectually and smoothly worded "fear of the loss of American white supremacy." The dying old man passes down his fear and hope to the next generation boy. The perpetuation of white extinction is scary and promotes the us vs. them narrative, but man if this interview isn't impressively executed.
Me too I believe Victor Davis Hanson is a treasure sure but I am not sure with this US citizen rushing headlong into volcanism yeah you're welcome that even he at even heat will be able to survive to survive the demolition.
Beautiful. My wife is being force fed wokism (gender and diversity studies) at the university. This video is like a breath of fresh air away from those repressive ideas of retribution and victimhood. Feels good and right to listen to him.
“There is a freedom of expression. That’s very rare.” This brought to mind a conversation I had around 2001 or 2002. I was knocking on doors to passing out campaign literature. The man answering the door was obviously of middle eastern heritage and from his speech I guessed he was a recent immigrant. He was visibly frightened and distraught when I asked him if he had chosen who he intended to vote for. I assured him that the choice was his to make without fear, gave him some literature and wished him well. Today he would have more grounds for his apprehension.
Very good talk. You asked him for positive thoughts. But what he gave you was the power of neutral thinking. We the people need this power to get us out of this woke movement. Check our emotions and think neutrality.
Another factor of a great nation posture is exporting its culture, language & trade relations without relying on force, . Today English is the most spoken second language in the world and its not because of occupation or colonisation but it's because of great innovations in communication devices & methods and based on what I used, saw & learned about this culture while living up since my birth in 7 different countries miles away in both Mid East & Europe. In all of which I found people speaking English. Great listen
Bill... Think back over your life. How did it all play out? Are you licking your wounds in self-pity and regret of maybe rather living your own version of "happy ever after"? My point is you were probably, as I hope "they" still say, "wise beyond your years". In that context, now look around: How many people, young or old, that would say are truly "wise"? Bill, stay safe and be well.
Riveting conversation. Learned more in the past 20 minutes than I did in any college course. Gives me a bit of hope for the future our country which keeps slipping away. Thank you for posting. The internet is a awful in many respects but videos like this are the exception to the rule. Let's hope for the resurrection of the dying citizen.
VDH’s admiration and appreciation for people who physically labor is trait missing in most Americans let alone the academia. We need to spread this train of thought through the minds of our young people.
You can not fix a flat tire with a flat tire! Transfer of hate is not fixing what we can not control our color. We are humans that's what we are all fighting for the same thing. Peace, equality, and freedom.
@@johnmeckel2319 Equity is calculated, targeted discrimination with the goal of "evening out" everyone's achievement, but the inevitable result is limiting everyone to no better than the lowest achievers. A prime example is the "dumbing down" of education: Don't allow the motivated and brighter students to learn more faster and excel, because that will result in unequal school achievement, so lower the expectations so that even the most disinterested, laziest, and least bright students can enjoy the illusion of achieving just as much as everyone else. Never mind that they've learned practically nothing, as long as there is "equity."
Ethno-cultural nationhood as political or social preference does not necessarily have to imply 'hate' as a principle of existence. Multicultural lands or nations are often the most strife-ridden. Forcing it on nations that do not wish it and never sanctioned it politically is obviously going to cause endless trouble and division.
@@Lytton333 Very true. I think that's a large part of the reason for the intensifying anger in society. The Marxists and those wanting to, er, "blend and homogenize" the nations and cultures of the world would have the effect of not allowing any nation or society to keep their own distinct culture and values, their own distinct identity. I can't blame any nation or society for fighting back against that tooth and nail, hammer and tongs.
Wow, I am Victor Davis Hanson’s forever student. There is no statement that he utters where he’s teaching a lesson in every walk of life. I hope Nick & every 20 yo that watch this interview will take to heart what VDH said the basic tenets that young ones should master: Respect, first of all and be productive and contributing to society. Try to be self sufficient at a young age and don’t be a liability to your family or to society. We all have to be grateful for what we have and let’s all try to do better without being greedy or obsessive of wealth and look out for each other’s welfare. I can go on and on about what an excellent educator VDH is in how he lives his life and I am so grateful he’s chosen the path he’s taking! Such a brilliant human being, truly somebody to emulate!
As a German trying to move into US, I agree with all his points. The reason I am yearning to leave is because the problems he describes are ahead of the curve here in Germany.
@@muximus2771 I think he had some sort of aggremment with National Review. Now apparently he is concentrating on his on site. But it would definitely be good.
Hey Victor Davis Hanson, My Uncle farmed 25-40 acres of Almonds for the last 40 years and taught Ag Classes at MJC for the same period. He is one of the most honest and hard working men with a passion for both teaching and farming and reminds me of you. Thank you for your opinions and common sense!
I always feel better and hopeful for America when I listen to a young man like this. I would like to see more young people like him, regardless what race or religion they are.
It's seductive to be a "progressive" since everyone else is always wrong and you never are responsible for your decisions. This old man is preaching hard work and responsibility.
76 here, grew up on a farm where the age of work began age 6. We are now strangers in our homeland. I don’t recognize the overwhelming majority as being actually ‘American’.
It's seductive to be a religious zealot since everyone else is always wrong and you never are responsible for anything you do or vote for because it's hurting the right people
It's not possible to say it enough...this man is worthy of much respect and attention. What he says is so imperative to the "awakening" of the "silent majority" and their active participation in a sane, moderate and prosperous US. Thanks Hillsdale!
What he said near the end about this young generation being unable to fix things, just basic household, simple things, is so true. At my last job, the majority of employees were in their twenties. They can show me how to do anything on their cellphone, but they can't change the drill bit with a chuck on a power drill. They don't have the basic skills that my dad taught me growing up, to be self-sufficient, as much as is possible. It's sad and scary.
Not only is, "If it ain't woke, don't fix it," the best 1-liner since Yogi Berra said, "It's deja vu all over again," but the insightfulness of what is in this podcast the best I have heard since I don't know when. VDH has topped himself, and that ain't easy.
If I had 1/10 the intelligence of Victor Davis Hanson I too could make a significant difference as he does. What I do is insignificant in comparison. VDH describes Patton as an American Ajax ! VDH is an American thinker, He is as striking as Patton with much more tact.
Loved this interview! Nick what a lucky guy you were to nail getting to interview the best! Nice job! Keep sharing conservative values with your friends.
The view and it’s audience wouldn’t have the capacity to understand real academics like Dr Hanson. Whoopie and Joys heads would explode with trying to comprehend that amount of commonsense thinking displayed by Dr Hansen and his ability to educate them would destroy their narrative of lies.
This is a prime example of what makes Hillsdale a unique institution of higher learning. An extremely smart educator explaining complex material in a truly understandable manner. A smart student desiring to learn from a knowledgeable and experienced educator. Such a wonderful experience to sit down and have a conversation.
Oh my goodness….I literally was just thinking how sad I was that being an American doesn’t seem important to anyone anymore. I was raised to be patriotic and value our founding, yet so many people don’t care about it anymore. They think they’re pursing good things by squashing their opponents but really they are destroying what America was. I’m homeschooling my children now and have wondered if I should emphasize American history because what’s the point if no one else is an American anymore. For instance, I recently pulled them out of public school because of anti-American - basically anti-Christian things I was picking up on. Relativism and an emphasis on “other cultures” and being a “global citizen”. It came to my attention the librarian essentially canceled Thanksgiving. She said there was “some debate” regarding the Thanksgiving story being about Squanto and the pilgrims escaping for religious freedom. Huh? I do believe at the heart of this is a hatred toward Jesus and Christianity. But unfortunately you cannot be an American “citizen” without at least respecting the founding and the essential Christian influences that America has. The Protestant reformation was very influential but most people don’t even know these basic truths. 😞
When there's trouble (a lengthy power outage, storm damage, electrical grid failure, crop failure, etc.), having academic credentials won't be much value to anyone. What will matter is what one can DO (carpentry, plumbing, building, repairing, planting, growing, harvesting and preserving food, preserving the seeds for the next springtime, people knowledgeable about horses, oxen, livestock, hunting, fishing, doctors and nurses, etc.). Their skills will be valuable because they can DO what needs to be done. If you think of it that way, mastering practical skills should be highly respected. I highly value a classical education, even if your actual profession is a plumber or farmer, but there are other ways to obtain a classical education than going deeply in debt attending a four-year college.
