Good one Cam . Looks like that material may have had some random welding done on it . That will show up as marks exactly like that . I was shouting out , don't take it out of the lathe until you had 3/4 thou clearance !!! Cheers 👍
G'day Max, one of the other commenters made the same observation with the weld lines and tack marks. I guess I wasn't trusting myself on hitting the bore size, I'm on a 13 day on one day off swing at the moment (I'm at work now and the crew are at a Union meeting so I've got 10 minuets to get a few reply's out) and am pretty fatigued and tired and wanted to spend some time in the shop on that day off. I do spend some time after work like on the motor set-up but that is pretty rare. I was happy to spend another 10 minuets lapping it in to the fit I wanted rather than having a lapse and over-shooting and throwing the part away. Cam
Gday Cam the ol' hard spots when machine plate.......I don't think there is such a thing as a chunk of plate that hasn't been tacked on or practice welded on.
G'Day Timless, it was cut out of what looked like an unused piece of plate but when I look at it it certainly looks like weld lines and tack marks. Cam
G'day "SoBoring", yep the lathe is certainly capable of working to that tolerance but I wasn't on that day. I'm currently on a 13 day on, one day off, swing at work which has been running for the last couple of months. In supervision, planning for and running multiple crews, they are often 13 - 14 hour long days. That was my one day off and I wanted to have some family time and some down time in the shed before starting the next 13 day swing the following day. Yep when I'm on my game and not fatigued, tired and second guessing myself I can hit the numbers all day long but that wasn't the case on that day. I'd rather play it safe and spend another 10 minutes getting the fit I wanted rather than making a mistake and throwing away hours of work due to a momentary lapse. Cam
