Vic was hugely unlucky to have started his career in the early 80's when he wasn't taken seriously at all because of his ridiculous thickness-something which wasn't in vogue at the time.350 LBS in the off season and with crazy dimensions he was way ahead of his time.He certainly could have won a few olympias with potential like that.
He's the only Massive bodybuilder who is able to do Vacuum pose, at least his gut wasn't sticking out like all the other Mr O Champions for late 90s till today
Victor Richards is one of the bodybuilders in his particular size range that is still capable of doing a vaccum in some capacity! pretty damn impressive!

I remember him in the late '80s. At the time he was considered too big which is why he never won big shows and stopped competing. If he came around a few years later, I think he would have won a lot of Olympias. But he also had some kind of beef against the Weiders.
I just remember some photos from back then and thought I’d search for him as it seems strange he disappeared. He had an amazing physique so I wondered what happened to him.
You could start training at 4, get ideal programs, diets and drugs but still a 99% chance to not look like him. He simply has the absolute best generics.

I remember this phenomenon from the 80s, never understood how Mr Olympia escaped his grasp. When ripped, just untouchable, doesn’t look synthetically freaky, but the most natural looking gargantuan BB, and hands down the best of all time IMO.

always wondered what became of him. Met him at the 89 olympia in socal. Never seen anyone that massive before including coleman and yates, yes they were huge and ripped but for sheer size and density hes hard to beat. Dude was unreal.

From what I've heard about this guy, he loved working out, he loved being big, but he did not enjoying preparing or participating in competitions. He did compete more because people were telling him he should because of how he looked.

I believe, that if Vic Richards would have been able to get contest cut and competed, no one could have beat him. The only person that rivaled his size and shape was Dorian in his famous "two weeks out" black & white photos.
Judging from Vic’s lat spread, his back seemed to be his weak point compared to the rest of his body. Because of that I think Dorian would have got him. Vic wins everything else so who knows how the judges would have seen it.

Cannot understand why he did not win Mr Olympia --unless he got on the wrong side of Joe Weider, as did the late Sergio Oliva. Mr.Oliva had a much better physique than Arnold, but the latter was Weider's guy. Was some other bodybuilder Joe Weider's guy when Victor Richards was competing?
You actually have to COMPETE to win an Olympia. Richards never went against the best amateurs in America. He used his dual citizenship to win the Nigeria national championships against a bunch of nobodies to "earn" a pro card. Richards never stepped foot on a pro stage, despite being a "Weider guy" (he was in constant ads in FLEX and M&F for Weider supplements). The word is that Richards' ego couldn't take losing to smaller but better-conditioned competitors (i.e. the temper tantrum he threw after losing to Rich Gaspari in the 1982 America Cup, an amateur show).
Victor Richards did not compete in the Mr. Olympia because of the politics! Plan and simple. He understood that he wouldn't get the proper respect he was due. He would have destroyed his competition because he was in great condition without a bloated gut and had the complete package.
Richards was a big guy no doubt, but what a lot of guys forget is 300 lbs. dieted down competition ready and 300 lbs. in offseason holding more water than a sperm whale are two totally different things. In competition weight I can't see this guy being any bigger than 250-260 lbs. He's also a compulsive liar...he did an interview with Shawn Ray on MD and claimed to have squatted 900 lbs. for reps with no belt or straps and that he had the same symmetry of Flex Wheeler but he was only bigger. Yea...right. Anyone who honestly believes Richards got up to 400 lbs. and ate 30000 calories everyday while another freak like Markus Ruhl's guts are popping out so bad at 330 lbs. he has to get surgery to repair an umbilical hernia hasn't been around in this sport for very long.

It's featured some in the video above, where Richards is posing with Yates and a few other big names. Supposedly Levrone said this about Richards: "Kevin Levrone was totally cool and told me I would destroy everyone if I ever got into contest shape and that if I wanted to compete he would help me get ready." Notice he said, "would if I ever got into contest shape" and "if I wanted to compete". That's because Richards wasn't actually supposed to get on stage that day. He didn't make it. in most of the photos he's really smooth, but at 4:34 you see what could have been?? His thighs are as big as Ramy's - but with cross striations, and his abs are clearly visible!! In fact his proportions there are very Ramy like!!
