Wemby is playing in a league dominated with big men and centres like Jokic, Embiid and Giannis. He is a rooking playing against these MVP level players in their prime and he's holding his own. Imagine rookie Kobe playing MJ in his prime or rookie Shaq playing against prime Hakeem. Wemby is arguably a top 5 Big Man in the league and big man normally takes longer to develop than guards.

It’s not like in the past where there were 5 or 6 good teams that could win the chip. Right now there are at least 10 different teams with a strong chance to win the chip and that’s not going to change in the next 5 years. The league is too packed with talent.
It's crazy that he moves like a normal teenager but he's 7'4. Normally if you are so tall smaller guys can easily steals the ball, but that's not the case on him, how's that possible? LOL
I actually don't want him putting on muscle mass, at least not to the level that giannis has done. his cheat code trait on defense lies in his mobility and length. I'd take the tradeoff of not being as strong while being able to cover ground and make those crazy blocks and contests. If anything, he's better off putting muscle in his 30s after he naturally loses some mobility due to age

Because of the principle of the draft, each year best rookies go to worst teams to allow rebuilding. So team ranking can not be a criteria for this award : they go to bad teams. And though Chet is really, really good, and fits well in Okc roster, Wemby is a better rookie.
