Being American I missed a lot of British programs yet became absolutely captivated with Victoria Wood in Housewife 49. Little did I know then the vastness of her genius while always retaining so much vulnerability. Must now watch Acorn Antiques. Thanks for this video. From Florida
She is much missed, it was a shock to lose her so soon. There is indeed a good sized back catalogue, you could start with 'Wood & Walters' but she really hit the big time with BBC's 'As Seen On TV' which also contains, Acorn Antiques. If you want to try to understand the British, our humour and our odd ways, Victoria really expressed us well. I'd look her up on IMDB and work your way through. Some is on here, some you might be able to buy in the US and some may be on an official streaming site, and perhaps unofficial too, enjoy.
Poignant last words from Anne Reid, " ......... and I'm sure we've still got many more years..." Well okay, we did have 12 more years of this beautiful woman's immense talent but 3 years on from her untimely death it's so tragic we didn't get many more years. She was alone in her diversity, unequallled.
I'm sure that's from the first ever episode & the first skit after her monologue, I was about 12. I laughed & laughed & laughed all the way through, I ended learning some of the scripts by heart, amazing stuff indeed. Her & F&S were my faves, magic years! Thanks for your comment xx
+chillmax Thanks for uploading - it is so sad that this incredible human being has died young but her work - and the laughter she created - live on forever.
+chillmax Do you know if she won this comedians' poll? If not, it was a total travesty! Incidentally, you uploaded this on 19th May 2012, which was Vic's birthday - how spooky is that!
+glamdolly20 Unfortunately I don't, but she may have done! Wow, really, I didn't know that, very strange, but that's pretty typical for me, spookyness 😄.
"And Holly asks can she have ten hops from Wally Wallaby. No, she can have five like everybody else. I'm a continuity announcer, not Fatima bloody Whitbread!" Shame they didn't include that line in the documentary. A superb parody of the ITV birthday mascot slots! Gus Honeybun, Oscar Puffin and B.C. would approve...!
You'll just have to keep your eyes peeled & go through the ASOTV shows, it's in there somewhere, maybe series 2 or even a special , I think it was later, rather then early ;-)
Does anyone remember a Susie Blake sketch where she says something like "Here's a warning about the dangers of chip pans. It will only be relevant to working class people..." Can't find it anywhere.
"and here's a warning for all you common people about chip pans. We'll repeat this one later in case some of you are out walking your whippets. If your chip pan catches fire, it is not a good idea to whirl it round your head by the handle. Place a damp cloth over it, or do what I do, have coleslaw. I've never heard of coleslaw catching fire, so it's not quite so dangerous."
Having actually listened to the vid they juxtose Victoria as their favorite living comedienne. As a nod to time passing and acknowledgement that poor Victoria has, indeed, since died. Well, you seem to be a bit thick I thought I'd explain. To you, acting as the police of my language you git so,, there you are.
I loved her. I just cannot stand the voice of Brian Blessed. Being constantly shouted at gets very wearing. It's like living with a celebrity domestic abuser for twenty minutes.
