I love the open fire, I had one as a child, you can sit and watch the pictures the flames make, no modern fire can replicate an open fire in a good old fashioned fire place. It will be so cosy for you and the kitties this winter❤

Wow, 200 pounds for all those hours is really cheap. You are lucky. In Germany I would`ve paid three times as much. Our chimney sweepers have to come several time a year to sweep, by law! Germany has crazy laws about that. In 2016 I got ridd of all my wood burning stoves in the house and switched to electricity. But that is expensive as well. Living in an old house has it`s challenges. Mine was built in 1903. Huggs and wishing you all the best with your projects.

The mantle looks stunning. I don't know how you can say you are not good with florals? Because you are good with florals. Everything is expensive everywhere in the world. I live in the US but my daughter lives in France in Paris. So we visit often and have been to London several times. I enjoy your content.

Your lounge, in it's current condition, looks like a rustic cottage lounge. It already looks cosy without it being decorated but once finished it will be even more so. The last shots of your fireplace mantle with the lights looks gorgeous. Just wait what you can do when it's Christmas. I can see a tree in the (current) t.v. area with baubles and lights and lots of gifts underneath it. It's coming along so beautifully well and it will only get more so. You've come along way in a short space of time. Well done Brave Jayne (same spelling as my middle name ☺️).

Hi Just watching your channel for the first time I had open fireplace and had a wood heater installed Heats the room and other room more efficiently than a open fire I couldn’t believe the difference in the heating. I am watching Our country retreat on you tube and they have installed a wood heater in their lounge room and it’s fantastic and efficient as well Would you consider a wood heater in your open fireplace ?? Your autumn display looks lovely. We have a woodburner these days. I hate the mess it makes, but it's lovely when it's alight. We have no gorgeous fireplace, sadly, yours is superb.

All the effort and expense is so worth it Jane. Although I do think £200.00 for 5 hours filthy dirty work isn’t bad at all. Think how much safer your chimney will be now. The fireplace is absolutely gorgeous! Maybe invest in some kindling to get the fire going if it’s allowed. I remember when I was a child my Dad used to fold newspapers into little round “buns” and lay those down first to make the fire. Not many people buy newspapers nowadays now though. I love your dried flowers and it’s inspired me to get some for an autumn display in my lounge. My roses and other flowers are just about over now autumn approaches. I enjoy watching your transformation so much Jane. Not only because I live in a Victorian house (1884) and appreciate how thoroughly rewarding it can be. But also because It’s obviously a labour of love for you and so good too for your mental health being creative and helping you to weather the potentially traumatic changes in your life. The new home is really coming along! When we had our chimeny first swept when we removed the gas fire to go to real, the stack of twigs was over 4ft high! The chimney caps have worked 18 years now (we used the 2nd company down here in West Berks! 😊)

I was a bit worried for the Quilt there Jayne! Glad he didn't need it, is it a very old one? Great to see the sweep's brush coming out of the top. I'm just going to book the chimney sweep for ours. It all looks gorgeous Jayne and if you are happy with it then it's perfect.

A suggestion for storing the coal would be large storage bins with lids and a scoop to fill the scuttle. The dust clings to plastic bags. Maybe shorter ones so you dont get yr arms dirty when scooping bottom. Love a fire! We replaced the fireplace with a woodstove and now heat entire house in winter. Of course, temps here in Tennessee are pretty mild compared to the northern Michigan winters we left behind. Love living here! Love watching your renovatios, thans for sharing! ❤

It’s so important to get your chimney swept every year. I think your house insurance is compromised if you use your fire and you haven’t got it swept. But most importantly because of carbon monoxide. My friend nearly died because she hadn’t had hers swept for six years. Your house is looking lovely. It’s coming together 👍🥰

Oh so cosy Jayne. I am so pleased for you. We have restored a victorian house, we have a wood burner in the sitting room ,in the original marble and slate fireplace and hearth. I always seem to be dusting the mantelpiece!! But so worth it. Thank you Jayne, really enjoying your renovation series.

I know I always mention my old terraced house. My fireplace at the front was white/grey marble. It had the most beautiful tiles down each side but not on the hearth. Clock on mantleshelf, candles, like you. I used black lead on the hearth and fire. I also had an inner bit (you had to stick your hand up the chimney a bit) that you could pull down to block off the chimney and just kept the room from the elements. I know a lot of people who get birds fall down their chimneys. I would get your chimney cowl done sooner rather than later, pennies permitting. The mantle looks lovely. I think you have styled it beautifully. Cosy, cosy, cosy. ❤

You can just go cut some green outside and stick it on the fire mantle. Also you can light your candle and tilt them to coat the jar with melted orange wax up higher so the you can put a battery operated flickering tea candle behind the orange wax. Two thumbs up!!!

Brought back lovely memories for me. My first husband and I swept the chimney in our first house. He sent me outside to watch for the brush. I was looking at the wrong chimney! It was 6ft in the air before I realised. Jeff died the day after our daughters 6th birthday. He had cancer that started when I was pregnant. We didn't have a lot of money but happy times
