It's an awesome tool! I have the Farmer X. Saw and scissors come in handy for outdoor work. Great video.. I do think the alox models have the same scissors as on on the 91 mm versions. And agree.. Tinker is my favorite too. 🙂 Thanks for the video!
Yes, after the video I compared the scissors to one of my 91’s….and it was the same. Thank you very much!! Every time I tell a Swiss army lover that my fav is a Tinker they always say “get a Compact” lol
Indeed, the scissors are the same size as on the 91 mm - but they are not exactly the same. The nail nick is on the other side, and the rivet hole is a little bigger, too.
(The scissors are the same as on their 111 mm liner lock models like the (new) Outrider. That's the reason why the nail nick is on the "wrong" side on the Alox.)
I have an alox version similar to yours with out the scissors. It’s a 100 anniversary from qvc shopping channel. Biggest difference besides the scissors is that the lanyard is D shaped and attached where the bottom rivet is or was. Now more like a rivet with a hole in it. I kinda wish I would carry it but I’ve just tried to collect and take care of it. Just to add it’s a wenger but looks very similar victorinox, little different sheild. Sorry for the confusion 😬.
@@TheWlada88 one bad thing about that bail design is that it will flip over into the path of the blade when closing. I have a little nick in the edge 🙈I need to be more careful. Thanks for the help😊.
"they are usually thicker" - no, they aren't :) Many of the tools are thicker, but the whole knife itself is thinner due to the scales. A 3-layer Farmer is just as thick as a 2-layer Spartan.
I carried the pioneer edc for at least thirty-five years, and I've just had to return it to Victorinox for overhaul. While it is away, I decided to buy another! The pioneer x was to consider but in the end I went for the pioneer as before! Incidentally when I purchased my original one here in the UK it was called the sturdy boy ! Pioneer was the name used for the range of alox models covered! I was a little put off by the new look pioneer with silver alox and the shield and that pretty useless engraving plate, but it's still got the same spec, so I will get used to it?
I like everything about my Pioneer X except the alox scales. They just feel a bit more slippery than the celador scales. Nevertheless, it's a great tool that has been part of my EDC rotation for about 3 years.
Just out of curiosity…..why did you choose the pioneer x over a huntsman? It has the tool set of the pioneer x only has the celador scales and a couple extra tools!
I own a huntsman as well and I really love it. I am a sucker for the look and tradition of the Alox models but I love my Celador models as well. I actually own 3 pioneer Xs now and two huntsmans! A black one and a red one. I have picked up quite a few SAKs since the filming of that video.
Yes, pioneer without scissors has 2 layers. I have the pioneer and just ordered the pioneer x. I also like the Cadet very much as an edc due to the compact size.
I just acquired this knife. It is a great EDC tool. I bought my only other SAK (camping model) back around 1982 when I was stationed in Brussels. With carrying a money clip in one pocket and key's, fob and change in the other, I find it easier to carry this large of knife in a cordera nylon pouch on my belt. I added a small Victorinox lanyard to the ring, which makes it very easy to pull the knife out of the pouch.
