In my opinion it's one of the best Victorinox models, but if I had to make my decision again, I'd choose the Rangergrip 79. A corkscrew can hold many different accessories. The Phillips screwdriver can be replaced with the tip of the can opener.
Same here. Just because it can hold firestarter kit in it, also from victorinox, and the tip of corkscrew is useful for untying knots and picking out something that require blunt tip so you dont mess up the owl or material working on it. All of this is preference for sure. In my opinion, 78 around and in the house or flat, 79 bushcrafting.
That also. But is it really necessary...splitting any twig or branch you have toothpick. :-) Main difference in cork screw inserts is that you have flint and fire material all in one. Green and orange in this purpose. It is small but it can do quite a bit in a pinch. Look for Felix Imler, he tested it and started over 100 fires with one set.
I also bought the 79 for very much the same reasons you gave. But, being left handed, the knife is awkward to open one handed . I am dexterous enough to do it with my right hand, but it just didn't 'feel' right, so I swapped it out for the ranger grip 55, that a friend wanted to 'upgrade'. The RG55 has the added benefit of being legal in Germany, where I used to go regularly and will again, once this pandemic thing is sufficiently understood!
@@pinhookfishingclub Hi, "Ranger Grip" version or 130mm, was acquired from Wenger after Victorinox bought the company. They continued producing it (among other models) under Wenger name until they changed name completely to Victorinox. In original it never intended to have scissors. Because it was meant for outdoor uses and other heavier duty. That's why "Ranger" in the name. So the largest from Victorinox collection with scissors is 111mm, or just below Ranger Grip selection. After merging they added specialty version, Gardener. Or ranger grip 71 that have scissors as primary tool.
I do NOT like it! hard to open, especially left-handed screwdriver spring is weak and it does not lock too much gap between screwdriver and can-opener toothpick and tweezer on same side, well, they had to make that button thingy... 🥴 I prefer Victorinox 111mm, the Ranger Grip series is a failure 😼
