This is something I can empathise with. Most of the people around me also always harbour deep and inexplicable prejudice and arrogance or even hatred towards people or things they have never seen or touched, which seems to be a kind of blind xenophobia. Therefore, I would prefer to communicate with people all over the world through the Internet (or better yet, in person if possible) and experience the beauty of the world.

Why do you distinguish between Soviets and Russians? Are they not the same? Either way, I find it difficult to empathize with people in a country where autocratic leaders like Putin and Stalin are routinely "voted" into office. I can sympathize with them, because they have no other choice. That's probably why so many Russians are leaving for democratic countries in Europe and Asia.
