i hear ya, joey was a true gentleman and was a said loss to the racing community, we raced for formula also and hung it up when our teammate jack was tragically killed in daytona in 2003, im sure we passed eachother by a few times back in the racing days, im gonna check out powerboat nation and see what its all about, i hope your having a great weekend.
I didn't know Bob and Jeff but Joey was a good friend of mine. He used to come by the GEICO dry pits when I was attending races and Haggin and Dave Scott were around. I met his boys. I was shocked and saddened that Steve couldn't get Joey out. :( :( I've been around racing since 2001 and losing three guys in one race was unheard of. :( :( As to racer assist, we see far more of that here than overseas. Not so much here anymore it seems. Maybe UIM doesn't want untrained people getting in the way.
yes thats jack our teammate, your right the rear of the canopies should have a look at, same thing happened to my good friend phil in patchogue long island the canopie collapsed on them killing my buddy and his partner kevin, hope you had a great weekend buddy.
I know Joe Sgro, Augie from Jersey(races that 38 Formula he calls the Flying Condo lol), Alvin Heathman, Ryan Beckley, Dave Scott, Peter Meyer, Tony Marcantonio, Mad Dog Randy Schleuss, Dave(the guy who ran the MuscleXXX Fountain) etc etc.
i totally understand brother, but it just pisses me off how no one gives a crap anymore, back prior to 2003 when i was involved in offshore racing everyone cared and would atleast pull out of the race and assist, lets face it no big money is being made in this sport, and i know we have sponsors but im sure a sponsor would understand if you tryed to save a fellow racer,i lost to many friends to this sport recently, my friend phil in long island a few years back and bob, jeff, and joey last year
Did you see the rear of the canopy? This was a reverse inverted blowover and entry. The water blew out the back of the canopy and crushed both of them against the dashboards. They were killed instantly.
Oh yes now I remember Jack Stoerelle(sp?). I was not at that race but I've seen videos of his accident on offshoreonly. I cringe every time I see a big fast open cockpit cat catching air at 100mph+, wondering if that will be the time it blows over like Big Thunder. Not the Nor-Techs so much because they're heavy boats, but Skaters and MTIs are very light for their size. I think you would agree with me that the rear of the canopies need attention and not just roll bars. The whole design needs it
Got lazy and stayed in my winter robe all wkend(it's been cold here in Dallas). Didn't even walk the dogs lol. I hope hurricane Sandy didn't hurt you too badly.
