Simon, I don't understand a thing you're talking about when you talk solar, but I watch the video just to listen to you talk. I LOVE your accent!! How did you get so smart? I am so electronically challenged. We see so much bad news coming out of Australia and it isn't any better here in the US. Praying for things to improve but not holding out much hope. I NEVER thought we would see a world like this. It's hard to keep the "chin-up" mentality with so much negative in the air but we do the best we can. Sure glad I'm on the downhill side of the mountain. I worry about our kids and grand kids. We sure haven't left them a very promising future. I'll be upgrading my current system within a year. I currently have the same pwm charge controller witch was about $10 off eBay, which works pretty good and about 40x 7.2ah AGM batteries green the royal Brisbane Hospital für free. Cheap system but the batteries are slowly dying. The system has been going since 2012 and the batteries are way older. I'll go 24v rack mount batteries, maybe victron and a good inverter and run some circuits in the house off that while I expert more for bigger $$$
I have difficulty getting the gist of what is what with solar, though I want to go off grid when I set up my property. Does it require constant monitoring and how do you learn what you need to know?
The monitoring just helps you understand how much load devices use, how many panels you will need and batteries for what you need to run. It is all a learning experience. Start simple and experiment.
