Port Day 3 and 4 Istanbul.
With a 14:30 arrival, and temps averaging 35 - 40c at sea, spent the morning at spice h20 adults only section which is bliss. Rear of the ship and very breezy.
The Hagia Sofia Mosque 🕌 and its historical and religious significance we will never forget. Jaw dropping architecture and some amazing Christian frescoes, mixed with symbolic Islamic Artwork make this a masterpiece within its own right. Truly amazing.
The Blue mosque was equally impressive and another amazing experience which we will never forget.
The Roman Hippodrome just near to the mosque 🕌 is a further place of historical significance with the Roman derbys, complete with obelisks from The Karnak temple in Egypt and a snake relic (gold heads now missing) from Delphi in Greece. The open air bazar sells the usual usual tat shops you can expect to find anywhere else.
The night time views overlooking the Bosphorus was great to see too with the boats weaving in and out … complete chaos but great to watch with the mosques and the topaki palace in the distance.
As it was an overnight port, the next not I g we took the metro tram to Sultan Mohamed square (fabulous) and visited the Cistern basilica. Ancient Roman water storage with some very significant symbols.
Back on ship for a bit more sunshine and another night at sea as we sail on to Kudadasi.
Saw a solo rock guitarist show tonight… Emilio Valle, he was amazing) and ate at the shanghai noodle offering. (phone software has juggled a little and does not show full pic’s however I am sure you will work it out as the mosque footage jumps between Haggia Soohia and the Blue Mosque and videos are not in sequence it day order for no reason i know of ….. i an sure you will work it out though and it was bice to capture this beautiful historical city).
