Great to hear you guys put the bigger sewer in. My grandpa was a plumber, people did not realize what it takes for a sewer system. Great to see you are able to start building your house 🏠. The house looks great and well designed. One question, is it going to have a basement? Thank you for taking us along 👍👍💯💯

Yes! Basement is a must! SO much extra storage space :D

*Wow the minute you got the go ahead.... you are up & running.... looking forward to this house building series... but also never be scared to ask lots of questions... I am in the process of renovating my bathroom etc and wow so much to learn & research... Knowledge is the answer before the work starts.🙂.*

So very correct! From step 1 we have to worry about the 'blow test" which determines if your house passes code or not :(

I have never heard of having 2 septic tanks on the same system, unless they are in Series. Here they have to run a garden hose into the outlet from the tank for an hour to be sure the field is not plugged up. NEVER put anything but body waste and toilet paper in the Septic Tank. Not even Kleenex. Never any Grease of any kind. Make an animal room in one of the lovely garages and save yourself a lot of grief. Glad you are getting an early start. Closed in by Sept? Cover the roof completely on the outdoor thing, close off West facing wall. Windward Side. 6'6" head clearance is lots. So many choices. You may find it is not used often due to weather, bugs etc. Consider an attached Porch.
@This1LifeWeLive
@This1LifeWeLive 5 месяцев назад
Yep, closed in by Sept OR sooner ;) And puppy room will be in the basement to allow easy access in and our of our fenced yard :) Erik was arguing with me about the septic tanks too, saying it has to be one big one. I don't know, he said we have two, lol!

Nice house. Risers are really good if you have to pump in the winter.

Interesting to see how deep your septic tanks are, ours is only a few inches below grade and we live in the same temperature zone as you. "Why don't they put pricing on these things?" Well Suzanne, as you know, "If you have to ask you can't afford it" ;) That pergola roof would be a nice place for some solar panels.

I think he put it down low in preparation for a future basement next door :)

Best thing you could do is overbuild the septic system, both the tank size and the drain field, it should last a lifetime and beyond. Are you guys going with a heat pump? Many systems come with air filtration options. I went with a trane system when i upgraded my gravity furnace and added air to my 1920s house. We also added their air cleaner. It does such a good job as my wifes allergies were nothing like in the past. Every time I look at something these days I get sticker shocked! I feel for people who are trying to buy a house and those that just want to update things. Its so ridiculous these days. Hopefully, you get good video of the whole building process. I mean this in the nicest way possible - how can you say we missed the fun stuff when you're the camera gal? Kind of admitting you were slacking.... LOL Take care! I hope the home build goes as smoothly as possible now that you have the court jesters approval.

I didn't know Erik was backing up the trailer for our builder and got stuck, lol, not until he grabbed the tractor! It's definitely pretty expensive these days, no joke there!

A little pricey but look into a Remme Halo air purifier for you homes heating system

When I put the septic in for this place I sized it for twice the size building. 2-1000 tanks and the leech field is oversized as well. Normally I have it pumped about every 6-7 years. Then dump in brewers yeast and warm water to get it all restarted.

It’s crazy how screwed up Michigan is on telling you what you can do or not do to build a new house the regulations are ridiculous I Live in Ohio and it’s a matter of getting drawings and permits and that’s about it I wish you the best of luck 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏

If that plywood is going to be there a while i would pull those railroad ties out of there. By supporting it on the ends you will more than likely experience warping. You would be better off just using the pilers that came on the units. There is normally 3 or 4 to give it uniform support. Also, as far as the cat dog thing, cats will cause way more smell in the long run. They have an oil in their urine that will stay in whatever it contacts forever! Puppy smell will go away as they get older, but the cat smell can only be gotten rid of by a complete gut and remodel. Ask any experienced contractor. Not trying to start an argument, just trying to help you out. Good luck with your new build!

I'm quite excited for you getting your new house Suzanne, what are you going to do with the double wide trailer? I'm still living in my mobile home, the year is like a 1992-93, it's an older model, I should have a house built too, thanks for the video Suzanne 🚜🇺🇲

We will sell it and recycle the cash back into savings :) They sell REALLY well out here! Honestly, if we had put our house on a basement we'd never even think about building. We cannot add a garage or any buildings onto our house as it is, so our only option is to build new :)

We have saved for 10 years and paying cash. We bought the double wide instead of having a mortgage. So we could save enough money. No sense giving the banks all your hard earned cash.
