I play and teach both. When playing, which one is used depends on the tune. As I've been taught, Piob is always a light. For light music, it's the preference of the player, pipe major or instructor. The main thing to beware of in light music, is consistency within a tune or set. Don't mix and match within a tune or set. When teaching, I show both a couple weeks, let the student gravitate to one or the other, but insure they are at least familiar with both.

Sorry for my traduction, but thank you so much for you'r help, i'am French "Young" player and i try playing alone since few month. If you ave not put your pictures in youtube, for me practice was gone out of my house. Thank you so much

six of one, half a dozen of the other. If you're playing solo, use the one you like. If in a band, play as the band plays. no biggie on this.

3 months, and 3 tunes.. and ready for pipes? Does your instructor know about this? While my experience is rather limited, I've rarely seen less thatn 6 months and 5-6 tunes, played and memorized before making the leap With just those 2 and a half tunes, have you even learned all the basic embellishments? Not to rain on your parade, but this would be of some concern to me. Please keep me updated with progress. Keep practicing.. but practicing -smart.
