Lol! Yeah definitely didn't need another project, but prices are jumping in our area and if we wait too long we won't be able to afford the taxes when they reassess it 😶. 10 years ago we were quoted $150,000 for a custom log home. Now it's $500,000 for anything a similar size 😵💫
@@MBFModernHomesteading you always gotta wonder too, what happens if the market falls through and houses with a $500,000 mortgage end up worth $300,000? 🤔
Hey there Gal, it's always a fun to watch a video on this channel. It's like a small but very joyful journey with you guys. Very quality content. Since you guys are on this new house build I also happen to work for a very close friend who provides off-site cost estimation and take-off services. Matter of fact he's got a very professional team and provides his services all over the states. So if you folks need any help with cost-estimates & take-offs, let me know. It's not that I'm advertising here, I'm just saying only because this channel is like a family to me and has always put a smile on my face. Anyway, keep it up Gal and keep it country 👍🏻❤.
You are correct in adding ventilation to the safe room. The air flow will keep things from rusting. You can solve this by doing a core drill through the cement and run duct work through it or you will have to run a dehumidifier if you decide not to.
Given all the work you will be doing I suggest you get a portable saw stand for the miter saw. They have extendable arms to support longer pieces. No screwing around with blocks to get the piece at the same height of the saw table. And often don't need someone to support an end. Totally agree on an air handler for the safe room. It will be nearly air tight, not something you can stay in for a long period.
A tornado only lasts for a short time in one place. For extended stay / Bug Out Bunker lots of extras needed. Separately wired/ Generator Friendly etc.
Suzanne that green Truewerk top looks good on you. You should be their model. The trusses are going to draw moisture out of the ground. They should have been put up off the ground and covered. Best to you always 💪
maybe we should have prepared a space for them with cinder blocks . . . everytime we get a delivery it's on a different day than expected or a different material than expected :P
Yep! Can't blame you, with the safe shelter this spring, yikes😮, and you surely can not blame a feller and his family saving a few dollars doing some things them selfs these days with the prices!😊
He jumped right in the very next day. His first surgery was very painful and moving really made him sick, but he kept trying to get work done. The second surgery was much better, but still bothered him. He JUST had the stint removed yesterday and hopes to be 100% from here on out :D
So you and Eric are goose parents. That makes you Mother Goose, but your house doesn't look like a shoe. Don't let Eric over due it for a while. He looks like he's working hard. I saw you caught a raccoon. Is racoon stew your next feast? Also, I think you will be getting a third cutting of hay if it doesn't get too wet laying down. Finally, my male dog doesn't pee in my house, but he will in other homes, especially if they have a female dog.
I think our dog starts in during different times, like when the girls are in heat, or the puppies stay a bit long and he's concerned they might stay forever, lol! yeah that coon was a good 30lbs! I couldn't believe it, had to carry with 2 hands and still struggled! he's in the freezer now :D
I should have just dragged a few away before they came back, and hadn't expected them the day of Erik's surgery, but there's only so much time in a day and always going to be those things that you can't get to :( We still have to pour the garage, so maybe I can make a dump area for them and try to grab the chunk after it dries (and hopefully get a hot second to do it)
The single slope roof is still good for rain and snow/ice, however it's tougher to engineer the walls and more expensive than a double roof to build :)
*Trusses onto solid ground... you are paying for them to be straight... remember that they placed them there... so if they remain there and they bow... that is on the company.. but if possible, very carefully lift them up & put them up on the concrete. Gosh it is all moving along real fast now. 🙂.*
@@ruralridez6165 *Eric, Call up the company that made them and brought them in, to bring out a rig to lift and shift them onto the concrete, to stop them bowing. 🙂 Once they are back on solid ground and sitting there... they will remain straight. 🙂. Your home is gonna look awesome... 🙂 Hope you are now fully recovered after the op. 🙂NZ*
@@ruralridez6165 *Eric, Hmmm that is so sad to have no response back for them company... very disappointing indeed. Is there a way in the meantime, that you can to push timber (offcut) pieces under the trusses to keep it straight... or even concrete blocks.? 🙂nz*
...stick blocking under the middle of the trusses and cover them ....to late now but metal deck and pouring the roof over the safe room would have been the way to go...
