It's good to hear a black belt say he still watches instructional videos and tries new things. Never stop learning!

Chewy, watching this video now it seems so obvious as I'm quickly approaching my blue belt. Then suddenly I remembered that the day before my first class I saw one of your videos and it made me confident to walk in the gym. You've been there for me this whole time. And you continue to be there for the beginners with videos like this. The gap from no stripe to blue is pretty small in the grand scheme of things and for you the gap from that to black belt is even bigger. You making this content is really honorable man. Just want to say thank you for always being there.

Complicated? That's because BJJ is great. If it were easy, I wouldn't train ...

The thing I keep in mind when I'm watching your technique videos is that each intermediate-to-advanced technique is essentially a sequence of movements. If you have a good grasp of the required movements, these videos shouldn't be too hard to follow. It's why most BJJ places have fundamentals, intermediate and advanced classes - so you have the required movements for the more advanced techniques. The other thing is mind-body connection which is simply your ability to watch something then do it.

My BJJ playlist is called "watch often". And I watch it and go to class with a goal of a specific technique to try and drill.

Thanks for the uploads ❤️ Got a problem with my bjj gym, maybe you can give me an advice!? I train since one year bjj now and it's fun from time to time..I am in a very successful gym with a world-class trainer but I am injured and can't and don't want to go hard in the rolling sessions but a lot of my team members go crazy even in the introduction classes and the trainer is just watching it...and another thing is that everybody is just interested in getting better than the other guy, I mean I get that but there is no friendships at all..so I can't enjoy the training and that great sport.. So my question is should I stay with the big and successful gym or should I go to another smaller one with cooler teammates?

I had this too. I'm a smaller guy at only 63kg and was paired up with much larger aggressive guys who just wanted to try and throw me around without any focus on us both learning. Really made me discouraged after I got dumped and injured my neck so I left. I am now considering going back again but to a Gracie gym with the hope they are a bit more thoughtful about technique and not just trying to best a smaller guy by strength alone.

Hey I absolutely love BJJ but I don't have enough money for classes.. do you think I can get anywhere with a grappling dummy and solo drills? PS I attended BJJ for one month because of a deal but I remember everything I learned during that month

You can learn some things with a grappling dummy but a really important aspect of bjj is rolling with another person that is resisting, so try to get a partner or join a gym as soon possible

(Commenting before watching) I’m only about 10 classes in, I go about once a week bc work gets in the way, but when we drill techniques I find what helps is I’ll go through the motions and make plenty of mistakes the first time and never get it right. So I kind of break each move down in steps, then each time go back to the beginning. So I do step 1, restart, step 1 then 2, restart, step 1,2,3 then restart. Especially for the really complicated techniques that I’m too new to even comprehend lol. It sounds tedious and sometimes it is but it helps, especially if you can get a purple or brown belt as a partner and they’re willing to explain what each step does and what the idea behind the movements are, at least that’s what works for me. But I’m new as fuck so take that with a huge grain of salt lol

I've only had a small amount of training but rolling with higher belts is so much better for many reasons, the best of which is they know how to not injure you while trying to be tough. I rolled with a purple belt and he flowed effortlessly and went 'hardish' but didn't crush my confidence which he easily could have.

Don't like the beard much or intense eyes. Voice also too trying and intense. Also teeth seem too bright in contrast to beard in the video. This guy may not be the instructor for me if I lived there or maybe he is different in person or I could get desensitised to the flaws but idk

I'm so confused about what you mean in the message. My teeth are too bright? There's not filter in the video. They're just my teeth. Chip and all haha.

@@Chewjitsu Never thought you would read my comment. Sorry! I'm too aesthetically conscious when it's totally irrelevant so please ignore my comment. Really I had to check you out. My instructor used to roll with you back in the day and told me to check you out. He rolled with you when you was still learning days and subbed you a lot back then. His nickname was Big Chris but he is 5 foot 5 so it's in reverse if that rings a bell. Strong cockney accent. Hope that gets us off on a better foot now, I will focus on the content in future mate and not totally silly subjective side issues. My bad

Hahaha I thought this was a troll joke comment. Dude, you're learning BJJ, you're going to roll with tons of people that aren't "asthetically pleasing". I think this may not be the sport for you.
