A suspect is in custody after shootings at three spas in the Atlanta metro area left eight people dead. Police say video evidence led them to arrest 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long in connection with the shootings. CBS News national correspondent Mark Strassmann joined CBSN with more.

Doc Tyler: Not 'definitely'. It is a hate crime if his motivation was at least partly because they were Asian. It is not a hate crime if his motivation was that he thought they were working in the sex trade. Sex workers are not a protected status for hate crime laws.

Most of the ones I have had dealings with are quite nice. But the truth is some of them are awful to their black female customers. The ones I went to college with were nice people too. They mostly stayed with their own kind but didn't bother anyone.

@@agentsmithofthematrix5111 There has been a surge in violence against Asian-Americans since the pandemic happened. Apparently, there are 3,800 hate incidents reported in the past year. Whatever the motivation of this murderer, the majority of the victims are Asians. This is like rubbing salt to a festering wound already, in the wake of the death of an elderly Thai man shoved to the pavement and died of his injuries. Along with a 75 year old man from Hongkong robbed/assaulted and died from his injuries - the attacker had a history of victimizing elderly Asian people. A Filipino man in New York was slashed in his face with a boxcutter. I can go on and on. My point is unless these type of crimes are not recognized as hate crimes then similar scenarios will happen again claiming mental breakdown/insanity as scapegoat in order to diminish their criminal liability.

My message to all Americans of Asians decent and visiting Asians. If I see any "hate" being directed towards you I WILL step in! Your places of business, at a fast food place, store, wherever, I will intervene for your protection. When I go out for dinner of lunch I will go to more of your establishments when I can. I get my haircut at an Asian establishment. I give out a few "red packets" during Chinese New year.

A couple of traffic altercations, a woman being verbally abused by a man, a fight involving a young man protecting his little sister. In every case I was able to stop what was occurring. I am nobody but I do what I can.
