I'm kinda collecting this past year or two. Nothing major. Concentrated mostly on 360 games that are series x compatible along with og xbx as well. Any others that I find at the local Sunday Market. Mostly ps2, wii and the odd ps3. A few ps1 but not in great condition
@@niallmccann6780 I tend to collect in waves. Earlier this year, my focus was PS3. Then I hit Wii/WiiU pretty hard. Lately, we've been on the same page - Xbox/360 titles that work on the SX. I started collecting with the OG Xbox in 2016, but I was still missing some choice BC titles.
I would love this too, but I guess limited run is the closest we'll get for now, even though it's not really the same. It would be great for a criterion type of release of a classic game like silent hill for example and have a bunch of extras like a second disc with interviews from some of the original devs where they talk about the inspiration and just the process of making a game like that.
@@filmfan_2 Kinda makes you wonder why no such effort has been made Prolly because its only recent-history that videogames have started making the big bucks But someone should get Elon on it
@@TOAOM123 yeah hopefully now that it's making big money and a lot of these companies are seeing the big interest in older games maybe we'll see a criterion type of company for video games soon.
I was literally just looking at my games when I opened up RU-vid and saw this! I grew up on the Ps2 and OG Xbox era. I’ve been buying all the games I played as a kid and its brought back a lot of memories!
just discovered your channel, gotta say, digging the content and you seem incredibly genuine. My algorithm shows me other collectors and some are cool and others are scummy resellers but man coming across a gamer who collects is nice. subbed.
My collecting philosophy is kind of laid back...I don't go out of my way to find them but when I come across a good deal I buy and add it to the collection. I've amassed a pretty respectable collection.
I've been collecting a lot of Nintendo Gamecube games and Nintendo Wii games. I found it very beneficial to buy a backwards compatible wii since I sincerely don't have enough space with my ps5, ps3, Nintendo 64 and switch taking up majority of that space. Its been fun. Humbling in terms of pricing but overall, im glad to have my old collection of video games that I for some reason sold when I was a pre-teen 😅
If you were wondering why game stop put stickers on the spine, it helped inventory counts go faster. When I worked there, we were vehemently opposed to doing this for the obvious reasons. All they had to do was put the sticker with the thermal paper over the spin, no need to ruin the box art.
I've been buying tons of physical games lately, I mostly buy the cheap disc's and cartridge only versions on ebay, then I buy a replica case online for $5 or so and my collection has been building up quite nicely! I don't own most if the systems I buy the games for, but I'm mainly a PC gamer who enjoys emulation anyway, so I only emulate the games I buy!
you can still get amazing prices on a great game collection, you just have to have a more long form approach. there's a window where a console isn't new anymore but it's not old enough for prices to surge. about 6 months before the ps5 came out, i got 25 ps4 games for $165 from a guy who hits estate sales and then resells stuff. i actually got to pick the games from a larger pool, so i actually wanted all 25. then in the last month actually i picked up a 360 slim with 19 games (i didn't pick them, it's just what it came with, but the games are pretty solid on average), a first party controller plus 2 rechargeable battery packs for $85.
Keep collecting folks , all this stuff will be rare in 5 to 10 years from now , the big game companies are releasing more and more digital games and in the future it’ll be very hard to have physical disc copies . The games that are rare now will be super rare in the future . There’s thousands of games going to the garbage every year by people who don’t know about the market . Keep collecting 👍💰🥳🔥
@@supermarx And they were right. 99% of PS2 and Xbox games can be picked up for less than a cup of coffee because they're so common. There were plenty of games on older generations of consoles, even the PS2, that only sold in the tens of thousands of copys whereas the majority of games released on modern consoles from Sony and Microsoft are all tripple A games that sell multiple million copys and which only contain a fraction of the games data on the disc making them useless once the servers are taken down.
I grew up with physical games, but over the years they all got scratched up because my younger brothers and sisters. I was traumatized by that and began buying exclusively digital because they couldn’t get damaged. However in the last couple months, I’ve begun switching back to physical and have been collecting a bit of everything but mainly ps3 games. I switched back to physical because I’m a lot older now and am able to keep the games away from them. Most consoles nowadays don’t even play games off of the disk anymore. The games still digitally download and just use the disk as a license key. So why not keep a license key so you can resell it later if you want to to make some money back.
Ive been buying the shit out of ps3 games too.. I have a ps4 and series x but i look at ps3 as the last true video game system.. 360 too but i like ps3’s UI and XMB
1. It's going to be a a pain to find stuff a retro system now, i got a Game Boy Advance SP Tribal Edition with Advance Wars for under £100 and i'm glad to have it, but finding games for it will be a trial
Exact reason why I won’t collect Nintendo, so damn expensive. I can’t afford to relive my childhood with all the different gameboys plus all the games I miss.
Give her the ring bro! Lol love the battle network games, the original was the one I got with my gba, and legendary super warriors dude! Classic!! Great video!
It is astounding how similar our taste in games are. DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Champions are some of my favorite games. MegaMan battle network is another one of my favorites, I love the first one, but sadly I only have the 4th and 5th. During the start of the pandemic I sold most of my Sega Genesis collection... I regret it so much. I'm trying to reconstruct the collection for that console... But it is so expensive now. Most of my purchases this year are on the psp. Been getting into japanese imports. Those are super cheap.
I just started collecting. I would often look at my game shelf and think "where tf is that game" or "I know i had THAT game" and such, then i would periodically go open a case and it would be empty. All my Pokémon games....empty. So i started to collect the games i remember from when i was younger and games i wanted but didn't bother to get. Its a solid Dopamine since every game seems to be getting pushed back.
17:22 I can't believe that Pokemon Explorers of Sky is selling for THAT much. Even a loose cartridge is going for high prices. I remember walking into gamestop one day and they had a loose cartridge for this game for $25 dollars. I bought it not only to play but I also to collect. I definitely got a steal for that game and this was roughly 6 or 7 years ago
You CAN remove the stickers from the artwork, carefully and with the patience of a surgeon...coat the top of the sticker ONLY, Just enough to reach the glue underneath it. Don't get sloppy.
Man, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1/2, and both Champions of Norrath games were my entire childhood with my best friend. We played those game to death, along with some other classics like Battlefront 1/2. So sad my younger self was so eager to sell games I had gotten "bored" with, wishing I still had them now. Great collection.
I found Champions of Norrath. I paid $38 (plus tax and shipping) Canadian for it on Ebay. Not too bad a price for a game I really want in my collection. I'd love to find a good deal on Return To Arms!
Love Jak X. It has a lot of bugs on slim PS2's. I don't remember the specific details, but apparently Jak X was developed with some reused code or an older engine that relied on PS1 architecture. Something like that. Either way, PlayStation 2's made after a certain date (perhaps all slims) lack the physical PS1 hardware of the fat models, and actually use emulation instead. I think early PS2 slims still have most of the hardware, but later versions were all emulation. Jak X apparently had trouble with this, and has a lot of game breaking bugs on slim models. I believe it's at a point where you can emulate it well with the correct settings. Whenever ya got the time, and maybe not on a newer slim model lmao, you should try it out Matty. I actually love Jak X combat racing. It's a fun arcade racing game with a story to justify it's existence. If you love the Jak and Daxter series it's just worth playing eventually.
I'm glad you brought up the profit end of it. There's a lot of people hearing about game collecting and thinking it's an investment. Sure, sometimes you got things from your childhood and they gain value, like my copy of pokemon xd, but this is not a good market to invest in. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to benefit from inflating the market, or was talked into believing it by the former.
Not sure why you wouldn’t want to play steam version of FF13, it runs great for all 3 games, getting over 120 FPS in FF13 and 13-2 was well worth playing on steam, plus mods
If you have never played Metal Arms Glitch In The System you're missing out. Ya gotta play the XBOX version imho it's the best one. Also Armed And Dangerous.. Jade Empire and Beyond Good And Evil . I loved that generation of games .
@MrMattyPlays is that your entire collection? If so, are you on the digital train now? For me I’m torn between physical vs digital. Wondering your thoughts.
Physical anyday of the week. I don't lose money at gamestop for pre owned games. I can return it and get my full money back. I can sell keep it trade it. Its my game. I own it
Question: is it worth buying a loose disk if you can’t find a “excellent condition” case with it. Then buying the case separately so the overall package looks nice instead of janky. Thanks!
GameStop also put stickers on the manual. I recently found nfs underground at a thrift store and the sticker was on the box and the box art and also on the manual
I remember doing game testing for DBZ BT3 in the summer, man my first week was great but playing the same game for 8 hours a day with repetitiveness lost its magic.
I keep mine to 300 titles at most if I don't play it within a year I'll get rid I don't see the point in collections running in the thousands just to have on a shelf.
As someone who lives in Japan, I feel bad that Americans and Europeans have to pay such absurd prices for these games when the equivalent Japanese CIB copy can usually be found for half the price.
Stickers on the artwork will come off. Use a hot hairdryer or a heat gun. I have a haunting ground with a GameStop sticker on the art. Don't know where you are pulling these price too might want to double check. Them example medal of honor and chrono trigger.
Yeah, the moment I start having to keep track of my game collecting with an app, is the day I know I need to stop collecting games. Good video though, overall.
Oh, that sticker might pry off if you're careful. I've gotten a lot of hardcover books from library surplus, and they do the same stupid thing with their bar codes.
Honesty with the battle network games it’s cheaper to go digital (yeah I know collecting physical is better) buy a Wii U and get them on the vc save you so much more money
Are used games in the States easy to find in such great condition? I live in Australia, and trying to find older games that don't look like they've been surfed down a driveway is challenging
Same issue for my country have to actually order online and request video call confirmation of the disc quality from people if I'm buying from a person
That's smart, it's worth the extra time to ensure good condition. I can't understand people who don't take care of their stuff, I've still got PS1 games from when I was a little kid - no scratches!
Surprised ultimate Spider-Man, ultimate alliance 2, Spider-Man shattered dimensions and edge of time, X-men origins wolverine, and web of shadows aren’t on the list. They aren’t available anywhere else as they are de-listed.
Collecting is no longer a thing unfortunately. I love physical media but with all these games shipping out unfinished needing day one patches makes them pretty useless. Don’t even get me started with the Xbox series x lol smart delivery is great if you don’t care about collectors with the Xbox one versions of the game on disc and having to download the series x files.
Yep physical all the way still have my ps1 gb psp wii Xbox Xbox 360 ps2 ps3 ps4 Xbox one . and pc games physical copies of things like resident evil 1 2 3 for ps 1 we are loosing our culture and heritage to digital .more than 70 to 80 percent of games from the 80s 90 early 2000 are gone permanently lost to the abyss. this should be brought up in a video .and somone really should create a preservation museum for these games from around the world with back up copies. of the original source codes and such also it terrifying that almost all game nowadays require some internet connection just to play the single player parts.
Ive got a few og xbox games in my collection, but one game i love and never hear mentioned is phantom crash which is a mech battle arena style shooter. Just wondered if any of you out there have played this and have this in your collections? Would love to see Matty review this game if he can get hold of it.
I had a game i couldnt find online for the game gear so i set the price at $300 and it sold instantly. I wonder how much that game is worth. Its only $15 on genesis. But i had the box and it was in mint condition which is rare for the game gear. I stil have a few really rare game gear games.
I’m starting a ps3 collection because the store is hanging on a thread right now. Seeking the hd collections of ps2 games because they usually run at a higher resolutions and better frame rate compared to original hardware. The only thing is that some of those games are getting up there in price from what I’ve seen. Any hidden ps3 gems people can recommend me? I know uncharted and the last of us are huge but I have the remasters and those are better playing.
I actually enjoyed many of the PS3 early/launch-ish titles, when they still had that red ps3 logo on the spine. They weren't ground breaking graphically or gameplay wise, especially compared to what came later, but they did have a certain charm. I also liked that hard to describe "chunky-ness" of the character models, maybe because they were lower res...the way they looked on older tvs. So, off the top of my head: Conan, Simpsons, Folklore, Stranglehold, Disgaea 3 to name a few.
It’s also nice supporting your local game shop if they’re really cool. The retro shop I go to is really clean and the people there are really friendly so I don’t mind giving them $10 - 15 over EBay listing price.
I'm weird and only want to collect specific series. I have a large kingdom hearts collection and I just started a Tron collection and a n MCU game collection.
Out of at least 20 I haven't had a GameStop sticker on the artwork yet that I couldn't get off either carefully peeling it with finger nails or hover in a bit of steam from a pot of water on the stove. Not a big deal. Rookie s#!+..
I've kept so many of my old PC games but I've had questionable luck with emulators in order to slow down the OS and be able to play (Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc). Any tips?
I played zoo tycoon the other day on my windows 10 pc with the original disk. It took some work around but I also got rollercoaster tycoon disk to work too.
Your advice that you cannot profit from flipping games is crazy and inacurrate at the 1:00 mark. Any successful collector that also isn't in the poor house hustles like crazy, finding games at thrift stores/pawn shops/garage sales etc. and can easily generate $$$$-$$$$$/year in profit, in addition to growing a spectacular game collection to own and enjoy.
