I was never big on fighting games, so the intros from Tekken and Street Fighter are unfamiliar to Me, but there are so many amazing game intros I do remember from the N64, GameCube and Wii eras. I remember whenever I got a new game, even with how excited I always was to actually *play* them, the first thing I'd do after starting a game up for the first time was just sit on the title screen and wait for that intro to play. Sometimes I'd even watch the intros a few times before finally pressing start. I also remember the disappointment I kept feeling when the intro trend started fading. I'd sit on the title screen of a new game for 10, 20, 30 minutes, waiting, just for nothing to happen, again, and again, and now I don't even think "I wonder if this game has an intro" when I get a new game, I just press start and get on with it. Not every game needs an intro, but seeing them is a special kind of joy that I wish would come back.
In the video I only really covered intros that affected me personally, so some people might feel alienated by that fact. but your comment is exactly how I feel and what I wanted to get across!
As someone who went from an NES to an N64, where CGI intros were basically a technical impossibility. Let me just say that Sonic Adventure's intro hit like a goddamn bullet train in '99.
I really miss the cinematic intros from past Sonic games esp the 2000s. Now it feels like Sonic Team doesn't have to budget to get the cinematics ingame, only for the promo or trailers they do. However, sega announced that Frontiers is the highest selling Sonic game since Adventure which huge and they're saying that the next game will have a higher budget for all future installments.
That you never even touched Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts openings like those openings were revolutionary. They change the way you see intros today you know those were legendary
Yeah, the iconic FFVII opening cinematic is LEGENDARY. Kingdom Hearts don't get left behind because even KH3 has an awesome opening that hype up the final confrontation between Light x Darkness with Sora and his friends against Xehanort and Organization XIII
bro this was toooo funny and also VERY accurate! Some would argue that the feeling we all get about the old intros just stems from nostalgia but i disagree. Back then, games that had intros made their intros with straight passion and so we loved them a lot because of it. Great video bro and i just hope tekken 8, SF6, and BT4 take it home this go around.
I immediately thought of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I bought all the Kingdom Hearts intro music on iTunes. Metal Gear Solid 3 is god tier. Ludacris intro for Madden 2000 is peak. Man, so many good intro’s that just take you back.
I still go back and watch Budokai and Kingdom Hearts intros. They really do make you feel things. They bring you into an experience and a moment. What great intros, what great memories.
I wasn't part of this era, but I got a game with an incredible intro: Sonic Unleashed. The Wii version. My brother and I got it, and it was among the first non-nintendo games I ever played, and my first exposure ever to Sonic. And let me tell you: that cutscene before the menu even comes up is near perfection. Music was top notch. The way it sets up the relationship between Sonic and Eggman as well as the tone and scenario of the game is just too good. My brother and I had only known about Super Sonic because of a toy ad in the instruction manual, and we lost our minds when Super Sonic showed up in that cutscene. And the ANIMATION. HOLY CRAP, HOW IS THIS ANIMATION FIFTEEN YEAR OLD????? I did avoid the intro for years because I got scared of the werehog transformation, but we'll let that slide. God status intro, 10/10
Why did I see myself writing this comment while reading it. This is ME! STRAIGHT UP!!! Glad to know someone else had the same kind of experience as a kid. Sonic Unleashed is the BEST!
The wave of nostalgia I got from hearing the Tekken 5, Sonic Heroes and the Tenkaichi games. I’m so glad you made this video cuz it makes me happy that people appreciate small things like that. Well put video brother, you’ve earned yourself a sub!
I feel you on this. EVERYTIME I played Soul Blade, I HAD to watch the opening. Alundra, Kingdom Hearts 1 AND 2, Tekken 2, Tekken Tag 1 AND 2,, SF x Tekken, Def Jam Vendetta, I could go on and on and on about hype intros!
I’m so happy you included the budokai 3’s intro. I always would watch the Intro every time I played the game and I would play It a LOT. My favorites on PS2 were Budokai 3, Tenkaichi 3, Persona 3 FES, and Tekken Tag Tournament. All my favorites are in this video!
I cannot thank you enough for giving props to DBZ Burst Limit Intro. I was literally starting singing the intro as soon as you said “Dragon Ball dropped their greatest…” I KNEW it would be BL. The game deserved so much better.
Yo I needed this video. Really took me back to simpler times, and when games had some real heart. That tenkaichi 3 opening will never not bring me back too. Great video Edit: Burstlimit will give me the same emotion too bro
Dynasty Warriors 5 had my favorite opening, of any video game! This man Zhao Yun takes off his cape, and proceeds to SOLO an entire army, like Madara did to the shinobi alliance! The Samurai Warriors 2 intro was crazy too, because there’s a scene where Tadakatsu and Yukimura fight 1 vs. 1 ON TOP OF THE HEADS OF THEIR ARMY, WHILE THEIR ARMY IS STILL FIGHTING ON THE GROUND! It don’t get more anime than that!
Yakuza def is a series that has some top tier openings. Yakuza 0 being my personal fave. That shit gets you so hyped everytime to play it when you launch it
I was wondering when you were going to include Burst Limit when talking about DBZ game openings and I won't lie, I screamed and clapped when that first frame popped up. It will forever be the definitive best opening for all DBZ games until the earth explodes.

Bro Mortal Kombat Armaggeddon intro was raw as fuck. And then never again...
This video really got me thinking on what clicked with them 2000s intros and I think I got a hypothesis Modern game intros were advertising the game that would entertain you 2000s game intros were entertainments in of themselves Even if you could only spend 30 mins on Mortal Kombat Armageddon, you’d still watch the intro because it was just that good; as entertaining as the game itself
I'm so happy to see someone so passionate about the PS2 era of gaming as me lol. Really miss those times and all the diverse high quality fun that you could find in those games
Bro, the Sonic Heroes, Tekken 5, Budokai intros took me back. Got me all teary eyed playing the air drums and stuff! 😭 I noticed that much of the music in video games in the past 10 years or so has become more generic. People who really cared about the music they were making wanted us to feel something. My experience, the first 2 'Spider-Man' movie games, the first 'Sly Cooper' game, the first 'Ty the Tasmanian Tiger', 'War of the Monsters', both 'X-Men Legends', 'X-Men: Next Dimension', 'Mortal Kombat' games pre-Armageddon, first 3 'Mass Effect', etc. had music for every feeling and was epic/jammin/chill/adrenaline-inducing. What happened bruh?! Nevertheless, love your video, hilarious.
My god, I want to thank you for letting me remember these iconic intros, man nostagia hits hard, most of the games u showed played a big part in my childhood if not all. And another shoker u only have 130 subscribers. Bless you!
Can't forget the greatest catfish intro of all time: WWF SmackDown Just Bring It! My god, I never felt so gutted going from the intro straight to the gameplay 😭😭😭
Glad to see others' appreciation for the little things that make up a gaming experience and for many of us, an experience not only tied to video game eras, but eras of our lives as well
The Tenkaichi intro has never been surpassed for me. Frieza casually using Death Beam while Vegeta dodges, Kid Buu doing Assault Rain/ Human Extinction on everyone, and the final clash of Goku and Vegeta is just peak. And don’t even get me started on the dramatic music.
Back in my day we got an amazing intro, raw music and a *finished game* on top of it. Btw your whole video gave me consistent nostalgic chills down my spine. *Thank you*
For me it was Sonic Unleashed. Like god damn that intro was really ahead of it's time. It felt like I watching a short movie that I wish it kept going.
The intro for twilight princess was special. Seeing link ride on epona along this huge cliff. Just for the camera to catch up with link having turned into a wolf as he howls and midna's theme starts playing while we see hyrule castle behind the twilight sky. Dreamlike
When I tell you that there's nothing like experiencing the "I'm here nooooow" after you first thought the opening was finished... it's because there isn't.
Unironically played Tekken 5 more than I would have thanks to the intro. As a kid, I diddn't have access to internet as much, and youtube was not on my mind at all. So any time I wanted to watch the Tekken 5 intro, I'd have to boot up the game, and as a result, I'd be hyped to play it. And I wanted to rewatch the into a LOT. Can't tell you how many times I played Heihachi vs Jack 5. Ultimately, the character customization and the fake online ranking game mode were what kept me too. King for the Win!
When you said Tekken 5, the first thing that came to mind was "I'm here nooooooooooowwwwwww" I used to quit the game just so I heard saw that intro. And the Devil Jin sequence... my god
I had the same start with as you with Tekken 5 and i remember that i would watch intros to games all the time when i did not play them. And the DBZ games intros are more emotional than the majority of DB Super. Great Video!
I clicked this video as soon as I noticed my main girl Asuka! I feel this so hard. I remember rewatching Tekken's 5 intro multiple times as well as Kingdom Hearts and so on. Good times man
What a great video! As a Tekken fan, I agree with everything you mentioned 100%. This also made me replay the Sonic Riders intro in my head over and over again lol
One opening that sticks with me was the opening of final fantasy 10. It wasn't some hype music video, but rather some somber piano to tidus saying "listen to my story" and I was hooked wondering what led up to this moment where everyone is mournful and cold around a small fireplace. Also, not an opening but the cutscene of tidus playing blitzball leading to sin destroying Zanarkand is rad as hell.
You got a new subscriber, I'm just at the Tekken 5 showcase but I could already feel myself swelling up. I'm 36 and seeing that game being booted up and being met with that intro just too me by complete surprise, still to this day. T3 had a dope intro but 5 was completely unmatched in that entire franchise.
I had a sort of "gaming club" back in the 2000's where I would go and play with people from the neighborhood. Everytime I'd get there early at the time people start playing Budokai Tenkaichi 2 we would ALWAYS sit and watch the intro before to play. No one dared to skip because it's so fucking good and pump us up to give our best fighting each other. To this day I think it's the best dragon ball game opening, the music is fire.
Bro on god intros can have such an impact in your view of the game, like everyone here that has played sonic unleashed knows how it's intro is one of the best period, it sets the tone, story and everything plus it's hype af and for some reason that cutscenes looks better than some cutscenes today even though that game released like in 2007
I remember leaving a game on for minutes on end just to see if a special movie would play. A lot of the time it would play a trailer or replay an intro but it was common back in the day that you could just leave a game on and a unique movie would play but nowadays this basically never happens
