Video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT or vHIMP) is performed to check for dysfunction of the balance system within your inner ears. This can occur in someone experiencing dizziness, vertigo, or instability. vHIMP can help to identify several vestibular conditions such as Vestibular Neuritis, Labyrinthitis, Meniere’s Disease, and Bilateral Vestibular Loss. It does this by studying the inner ears ability to stabilize our vision while our head moves. Some advantages of this test are its ability to check for inner ear problems in both ears, rather than just one, and it’s ability to check inner ear function in all 3 planes.
We are the only clinic in Western North Carolina as well as one of only a few across the state of NC to offer this type of testing.
