What is the destiny of a house? First of all, what is a house? A structure, a
building, a dwelling with the purpose of providing a secure and safe place
of escape from the world. When does a house ascend to a home? Take
any house and add emotional warmth, love, fond memories and security
and that house evolves into a home.
In 1905 Albert Cyril Lorion built the house that is located at 282 Burncoat
Street, Worcester, MA. This location provides a multitude of conveniences.
Burncoat Street is a bus route to the city. From this location you are only
minutes away from routes 190, 290, 495, 146 and 90 (the Mass Pike), also
3 major hospitals, the DCU center (a major entertainment venue), Hanover
Theater, Polar Park, home to the Woo Sox and a myriad of assorted
restaurants of varying cuisines.
Within convenient walking distance there
are grammar, middle, high schools and a junior college. There is a
functioning fire house less than 2 miles away.
Back to the house that will be evolving into a home. The original front
porch was converted into two sunrooms, one of which has a built-in bench
that can be used for storage. Two Japanese Red Maple trees were planted
in the front lawn, in front of the sunrooms. They provide privacy without
blocking the view to the street. There are two more Japanese Red Maples
on the property. One is along the driveway and one is next to the free
standing, 2 car garage and in front of a 16’ x 16’ wooden deck.
Also lining the driveway there are two lilac bushes and one Japanese lilac bush.
When these bushes are in bloom, the fragrance emitted from them is so
delightfully inviting. The driveway itself can easily accommodate 5 cars.
Mr Lorion designed this house to become a home for his family.
Enter through the decorative front door, to find a nicely carpeted hallway of warm
pine board walls. On either side there are the open sunrooms.
To the left is a large open doorway that leads to a massive living and
dining room, with beautiful hardwood floors. The living room has a working
fireplace to add to the ambiance. At the end of the dining room a wall of
windows allows for a view of the back porch and backyard.
The enclosed porch can be used as a mudroom. It has a fold down table, a bench with
storage and a built-in closet for storage.
To the right of the entry there are two rooms that can be used as an office and as a work
room.
A Butler's Pantry leads from the dining room to the kitchen which was remodeled
in 2013. All new cabinets, including a wine rack cabinet provide ample
storage. A peninsula style counter, capable of placing 4 to 5 bar stool type
chairs on 3 sides of the peninsula provides a place for dining.
In the hallway, there are two closets, one featuring a stackable washer and
dryer.
Continuing into the hallway, brings you to
another closet and a ½ bath.
This is where you will find a nicely carpeted
flight of stairs to the second level. There is a compartmentalized linen closet on the left at the top of
the stairs.
There are 4 bedrooms on this level as well as a full bathroom.
Two of the bedrooms have access to a 3 season porch that overlooks the
the backyard and one bedroom has a cedar closet.
An alcove between 2 of the bedrooms could be
used as a sitting area or a study area.
The third level features 2 bedrooms and a walk-in closet, along with a ½ bath.
Many upgrades have already been completed. A new roof in 2013.
In 2018, new insulation backed siding was installed along with vinyl insulated windows.
There is a large wide open cellar. It can be made into a family or playroom.
There are set ups for a large washing machine and a
large dryer. This basement also has a full bath, toilet and shower.
The new roof, windows and siding along with the beautiful woods used
inside the house all add to the warmth of this home. To complete the
transition from a house to a home only 1 thing is needed - you and your
family.
