I completely agree with you. I never watched Video Power myself when it first aired, but I did watch Starcade back in the 80s. We had the best cartoons, the best video games... we just had the best entertainment period.
Best part of this show: every episode someone got stuck with Kabuki Quantum Fighter and the Asian stereotype voice would flow right out> As Hans Gruber says, "Regular as clockwork."
What an awesome time capsule these episodes with the broadcast commercials.....my mornings before leaving for school during 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade were all about this show. Thanks for the upload.
You know Johnny Arcade felt like he was the man back when this show was on.. A kid with his own game show based on videogames.. Anything after this was downhill.. Even in my own life.. My childhood was the best times. From like 6 up to 18..
6:55 I love these little moments in these low budget shows. He picked the wrong kid and the kid's like "ain't me bro" and the other kids had to point him to the right kid.
I used to watch this show every Sunday morning. The episode I remember the most is the one with Double Dragon III which I haven't found yet on RU-vid. The WrestleMania II question was wrong though because Ultimate Warrior wasn't in WM2. His first WM was WM4. Unless they mean the game, WrestleMania Challenge, as WrestleMania II since it was the 2nd of the NES WWF games with WrestleMania in its name.
I was thinking the same exact thing. He was actually one of the few guys with music at WM IV. He was only at WM IV-WM VII until Vince fired him after Summerslam 91. He came to Hogan’s aid at WM VIII. He beat Triple H in a squash match at WM XII. They used to show this on weekdays here in Virginia on WGN.
ON TV HE WON $35,000 CASH PRIZE AND LUCKY VIEWER WIN $25,000 BONUS. AND ON THE INTERNET HE IS THE VIDEO POWER CHAMPION FOR THIS WEEK. WHAT A SHOW WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK SO UNTIL THEN HAVE A GOOD NIGHT AND DON'T GET ZAPPED. GAME OVER.
It's funny how we all know that the reason it didn't start at the beginning of the intro is cos the kid was scrambling to put the tape in and press record. Btw I just realized that this channel has TEN MILLION VIEWS CONGRATS MAN!!!!
In the Baby Ruth commercial when the guy returns to grab the last Baby Ruth, why was there a line of 3 people at a machine that 1) is out of order and 2) has only one candy bar left in it?
LOL Right? These commercials were great. People were so perplexed about an out of order candy bar machine with only one measly bar in it. I guess that was the only food source in the building.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT ANOTHER EPISODE IS IN THE BOOKS. PLEASE JOIN US AGAIN SATURDAY MORNING AT 4:30AM SO UNTIL THEN HAVE A GOOD REST OF THE WEEK AND GOOD DAY. GAME OVER.
WTF?!! Ron Wasserman,Noam Kaniel and Shuki LEVY worked on this show's music?!! How come we didn't stick around with the awesome music for Power Rangers then? T_T
I always wanted to go on this show. Not for the prizes (too much Nintendo) but just to stump him with a question. I had some truly difficult questions lined up some bordering on pure malevolence. Like....how many cabins are in Friday The 13th? How do you activate this cheat or that? Can minus world in Super Mario Brothers be achieved on an Nes World Championship Cart Gold/Gray (yes, it can)? Addendum- I was a fan of both Sega and Nintendo. I started gaming back in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. I got my Genesis in '89 and my Snes in '91. I always wanted a bigger spread of games and they never covered Neo Geo AES on this show either.
26:53 Why do they always say "Eastpak full of prizes"? Why don't they ever say what those prizes are? Or do they reveal it in an episode I just haven't seen yet?
JordanForeverGoat 🐐 aint that the truth. Remember those shopping spree shows where kids would just load up on toys? I was always soo fucking envious of them loo
The announcer isn't great at actually watching what's going on in these games. 🙄🤣🤦♂️ He's talking as if Patience is winning when she lost and had to continue - was probably one of the quickest losses I've ever seen. At least she got MegaMan 3 though ♥️
If it's one on one on one on one, then that would make it a Fatal 4 Way match. Also, what statement are you trying to make by naming your kid Patience?
Yellow Devil was the one I was thinking of. But I think he was referred to as the Rock Monster here in those days. At least from what I remember from my Mega Man 3 Nintendo Power issue.
Look where he puts the points on the girl vs where on the boy. He's cringy as fuck. I used to watch this every day before school...???... Whoa. The do you like my body comment while looking at them. Also wtf.....they should have replaced him and this is only the 3rd show.
The part where he says "dont worry you can talk to me after the show" lol wtf..Talk about being uncomfortable. The kid said his favorite wreslter is ravishing rick rude yet proceeds to know nothing about him.
neverwalkalone +staged. Kids fed lines. All the kids on stage and in audience were real NY kids and not show biz kids (nervous? jaded? Dead inside?), so he had to pick up the slack. Kids are like.... DON'T TOUCH ME!
was johnny really on the spot? I always wondered if he had the questions before hand and had the people in the background feed him the answers. However, his answers seemed to be a bit improved leading me to believe that it was his own answers. That means he is quite knowledgeable in video games an not just some pretty boy host.
JJamil Luzano I think it was scripted even when he got stumped. I remember seeing an episode where the MC guy who goes in the audience picked a kid and you can tell he picked the wrong one because he sat the kid back down and went to the kid next to him. Plus some of his answers were freestyle rap lol.
