Great review man! I cant agree more on these figures needing freckles and less stylized sculpts. The movie look was already it's own style. Mikey looks the most like his movie version. Not sure if the freezer trick is what loosened the joint, but either way it seems that if you keep moving that arm on Raph it'll just pop off. Regardless, I look forward to this set, no matter how weird leo's face looks.

To be honest, the only nitpick I have looking at these is that Michelangelo's nunchaku had rope instead of chains holding them together in the movies.

This is the BEST HALF HOUR TMNT REVIEW..EVER! I normally would've tuned out after 5 minutes but I really love just looking at ever Nook and cranny detail compared to the first classics line...thanks again for this well done review!!!!

My classic cartoon version had the same shoulder problems. Glad to see the eyes on these new ones are less derpy.

+optibotimus I dunno if this is really a big concern or is of any interest to you, but the Micheal Bay turtle figures have been slightly changed. Leonardo now has sword holders that attach to his back, so I suspect that the rest of the turtles have been given weapon holders as well.

Dude..your so lucky you got these figures already....you even have an awesome display behind you in the video! I got the same stuff and been collecting since the 80's all this tmnt stuff...and now this new movie...collection never stops! Anyways...these NEW 1990 CLASSICS line is another MUST HAVE!!! What I'm confused is that months ago I saw photos that the Classics line that they were going to be releasing were the ones from part 2 movie...the 'MOVIE STARS' versions with the spots on the skin..but instead got part 1 styled figures? I hope they they go further in making a Shredder and Foot Soldiers already!

I've noticed a lot of QC issues with Playmates "collector" figures. I mean, look at what happened with 80's cartoon Donnie's eyes. It was like he accidentally smacked the crap out of himself with his own staff.

Mike & Raph have the same scratches on the back shell where as Don & Leo share shells that are different from the other two.. I do hate that the shoulder joints are too tight on em.. I almost thought they'd break too.. I got em to move but the bicep is really loose & feels like its going to break off if i keep moving the shoulders.. They grip the weapons WAY better than the original classics did & I totally agree that they shouldve had added paint detail in the skin & finger/toe nails..

They look a bit to cartoony. I wish they had more unique detail to differentiate them from each other. The spots and blemishes on the skin, more of a texture to them. I prefer my Turtles with different colour skin too though I know in the film they were the same.

If I'm honest, I don't necessarily have any complaints about these figures. Most of that comes from my gratitude to Playmates for immortalizing the brothers four as they were in those first two classic live action films that so many hold so near and dear to their hearts. All-in-all this is the fourth outing of the 1990's live action turtles as figures and overall are definitely the best. If you want the definitive bottom line on what these guys are missing, just take a look at the first images that were released of this set. There was A LOT of extra paint detail, with some lighter shading that gave them that kind of amphibian/reptilian sweat-shine that their skin had in the movies, as well as that more realistic look. The detail they had in those pics also extended to darkening their pads, wristbands, belts, and bandanas. The freckles aren't really that big a deal. In the original movie they were barely noticeable, appearing just under their bandanas. If there is one complaint to be had about this set, it's that every set wasn't made perfect like the one they used for those first publicity shots. Sucks when that kind of stuff gets lost in translation.

Great review as always. I went to TRU and was upset to see the one peg that had them were sold out. I love these figures but I'm only picking up Donnie. I really hope they do the Secret of the Ooze collection. Out of the live actions, the sequel was probably the best when it came to facial expressions imo.

Initially I was under the impression they were just repaints w/diff heads. Very cool they when w/new tooling although the head sculps & QC take me out of it. Btw gr8 review & that shirt is pretty rad.

I wish these figures had more texturing in the skin either in paint or in the sculpt, like the original movie figures.

The first four classics TMNT figures i received had stiff shoulders to the point that i thought they were molded but not jointed. I forced the shoulder to move with enough pressure and with each figure something inside snapped allowing the shoulders to move fluidly now so maybe there is some extra plastic that is still holding the shoulders together in the 90’s movie figures

I have all 4 of the classics turtles and the they had the same problem with the shoulders. I fixed it by gently warming them with a hair dryer and gently trying to work the joint until it started moving freely

I got the same issue with the shoulder articulation been tight with the classic collection figures to the point where one has a loose arm rotation now which I was bummed out about

These are very movie accurate figures. They're so articulated, they can do moves that the animatronics couldn't even do in the movie!

the figures looks good, i recomend you apply a a bit of multipurpose oil in the joints of the figures to make it loose a bit more since the problem of the joints been so stiff it could be because is in contact of plastic to plastic. Granted while that not all figuress has the same problem, it a common thing that a figure could have the situation. but other than that the figures looks great, can't with to get mine later on.

Wait a minute. If I remember correctly the cartoon in the 80's None of the Turtles had the shoulder strap. I think the comic book had the strap on them not to sure

I know this is probably not going to happen but I wish that they would make the shredder. He is so intimidating in those movies. I also saw the new giant sized Michael Bay movie turtles at toysRus. I hope you check them out Paul even if you don't review them. They are pretty impressive.

I love the first line of TMNT Classics. Passed on Bebop and Rocksteady because of the ridiculous scale issues. Passing on Krang for the same reason. Still undecided on Shredder because I might just grin and bear the terrible scale. Personally, I'm just waiting for the comic inspired turtles. That's all I care about from Playmates now.

Mine have frozen shoulders too, Leo was the worst, had to cut some material out in order to move it

It's good to know the turtles are popular again, I actually hope the new movie is as good as the cartoon series and 90s movies.

so i went on toys "r" us online and found that you cant order the turtles nor where they available in the store. SOOOO i went onto bigbadtoystore.com. and looked around. found the turtles for 29,99 a peace + shipping. didnt have the money then to buy Raph so i went with my wife and kids to toys r us. and i found 2 sets of the 1990 movie turtles in a corner of a shelf for 19.99 a piece. i got Raph, im quite happy with it. the joints are slightly tight but not as bad as the one you had.

for the shoulder joint you can try some WD40.

I just got my set today. I'm having the same problem the shoulders, they're very stiff. But the knee joints are loose. If anyone has a fix to both problems, please let me know.

One thing I don't like about these are that the bottom half of the shell looks to big making them look fat..

I had the same issues with my TV Turtles, especially their left shoulders, oddly. Just completely stuck in place, to the point I thought I was gonna snap them before getting them to move. My Don's left arm, well, my neighbors probably heard some colorful language through the wall. Fortunately for me, once they popped, they stayed loose. Definitely some QC issues from the start though, IMO. Apparently, they've become more common. Excellent as always. Don's head is just oddly shaped. The mouth area extends out too far compared to the other three, as if his bandana is waaaaaaaaay too tight. He's always been my favorite too, so very disappointing.

Plastic on movie Turtle toys almost seem to be more softer, almost rubberish for a naked eye. At least mine :/

Leo is my favorite and his face sculpt is horrible.. I do like the new body sculpts but I'll stick with the Classics that I already got. They don't even have the freckles. They shoulda put out Shredder, Splinter & Krang instead.. Nice review tho.

Raph will always be the best, mostly cuz his attitude is similar to mine.

Got all the figures in the mail earlier this week. Gotta say I am let down also. I waited years I mean YEEEEAAARS for this figures and they look pretty good but the joints kill these things. PLAYMATES what were you thinking with the shoulder and bicep swivel in the arms. Tiny pegs in the shoulder to bicep joint that started showing stress marks as soon as I tried to pose the arms. The shoulder joints are suuuuper tight which makes the tiny pegs even more likely to tear or split. I saw this coming as soon as I opened mikey so I got my pro super glue and sadly glued all of their biceps in a fixed pose which actually makes playing around with this toys less frustrating. My other gripe is the head sculpts, the designers excuse was that they didn't have access to hensons movie props to make them movie accurate......WHAT???? So having tons of still photos and a whole movie worth of reference material isn't enough???? Raphs nose is suppose to be very blunt. Mikey's head is more slender on the sides, Donnie's head is sort of like Raph's but more of a nose. Leo has more of a nose and is actually the most accurate one as far as the new toys go. The tiny pupils also take away from the movie look, They should have large brownish black pupils that take up one whole side of the eyeball. Sadly I still like my old Playmates rubbery movie figures better than these, even they had colored dots and freckles on their skin. They also had painted finger nails.

Is it just me, or do the movie figures look a little round in the midsection when compared to the cartoon line? The suits sure didn't have that look.

tight joints are better than lose.. you don't play with your figure, you just pose 'em then you display it. it sucks when you have lose joints coz you wont be able to have them on a good position or even hold there weapons if its to heavy..just saying..^^, but good review though..
