this were the cheapest systems you could buy from late 76 to 78, and with a new set of speakers or like with the technics SB-f3 ,only the 79 model it will sound a lot better and louder ,this you compare with new equipment and see how much money you would spend to match it ,i put the loudness always on for the bass kick, it as nice high´s not like modern tone controls that uses frequencies more close to mid frequencies
i was amazed when in the 90´s bought a expensive ES Sony integrated amplifier ,dual mono that in the first month made noises when putting it on ,while it was for being fixed with warranty i use the 74 pioneer stereo receiver only having 30 watts at 8 ohms in total but it made the woofer from some Mission argonaut MKII with 200watts at 4 ohms or 780 model vibrate as i never had seen with a new sony with 120 watts per channel ,when taking out the old stereo receiver and conecting my new powerfull amplifier it sounded steril with no dynamics, like if i decreased the quality of sound i was used to, and having a top end cd player and a akai deck of cassettes also using a 79 technics turntable ,the sound of the cd player was the worst and even today it works with 30 years of heavy using because all night it would be on as i fall myself a sleep hearing music everyday ,only in vacations when at a beach the equipment was off, i asked for the price of the laser it costed 400€ in 2016 and it was going to be discontinued but in reality only need a cleaning and to be tuned and works like new today having a lot better cd player from CEC belt driven considered by several hi-fi magazines the best in the world like what hi-fi but that wouldn´t improve the cd quality of sound only a better separation of tracks in each channel many times above the most expensive Rega cd player , that the ones who bought it are not happy to have a very bad looking old cd player that doesn´t work, DAC what for the ones in the cd player have better specifications only to decrease the quality of sound and added a new equalization ,that i since ever had one in my system but only in the 90´s i felt the need of using one because of the cd sound ,and for thiose who think things or digital evolved look at a DAT player from 87 ,sony ES and see the specifications are above any 500€ DAC today
