I just did my 2024 f250 a couple days ago. Here is how you do this the wires coming out of the fuse/ relay box under the hood are marked for each switch it’s on a label attached to the relay wire harness. There is another wire harness toward the engine and near the firewall that is taped up remove the tape and you will see that these are color coded and they match the colors on the wire harness you found inside the truck these are your feed wires for anything you want to power up inside your truck that go thru the firewall. The key is you have to connect the wire from the relay output to one of the wires going thru the firewall then when you turn on your upfitter switch 12 volts will magically appear inside the cab on the correct color wire that was connected to your relay. You are correct they are not large wires for high amperage applications but should work fine for anything you are going to power up on the dash. Hope this helps everyone have a great day
Those wires are pass through. You have to connect the wires under the hood to the upfitter wires. Once you do that, then you run your accessory from that in the truck.
Those are just pass through wires. They go through firewall and are bare ended wires. To either connect directly to fuse box or to tie to upfitter switches. I used mine to connect gmrs radio to upfitter switches.
Looks like major surgery to me. Couldn’t a call to the service department at the dealership (or with your manufacturer contacts a call to them) been quicker?
Those thin gauge wires may just control the relay your accessory is hooked to. That wire should not need to be a thicker gauge just to turn the relay on and off.
Plus ford only gives you two inches to tap onto. What the hell. Hey bet you haven’t tried to charge the trailer off the seven pin. Have fun on that one. Ender up running 10 gauge wire to rear bumper with Anderson connector running on relay. Off the upfitter
Those pass through wires are great for control power for a relay. Better to not run high current through the firewall. Use small wires for control purposes.
RAM has a way better way. Get a RAM, upfitters plug right in & you also have a VISM ( vehichle interface service module) you can do alot more things with that for wiring things. Ford is so dumb!
My 22 had wire that were all small guage behind the glove box but those were for a upfitter module that mounts there and I think is only available for fleet trucks. There was another set on the kick panel that are the pass through. They were not all the same awg 2 or 3 were larger. You may need to remove the whole kick panel to find them. The other end should be hiding near the lager fuse panel closer to the fire wall.
Yes, those are the pass through wires. You need to connect the other end in the engine bay to get power through them. That’s the bundle JD correctly says is under the fuse box in the engine bay.
Those are 100% the upfitter wires. I am using 5 of the 6 switches in our 2022 F-450. They are for my Dash Cam, 12v USB socket, TPMS relay, Haloview Display and DO-to-DC on/off relay. The actual DC-to-DC charge is on separate 4 gauge wire, coming off battery. You can move the tine 5amp fuse to make #5 and #6 always hot (via switch of course) so you don't have to turn truck on to enable them. Think of stuff like exterior lights for hooking up the RV.
There are pass through wires. Not the ones you found. Look in the upper fire wall corner. Very hard to get to. Take out the passenger seat so you can work in that area. Take out the battery so you can get to all the wires and relay box. Read the ford on line manual.
I didn't think it was very hard to wore mine. It could be a little easier but seemed fine. Maybe I'm confused, but the wires are just under that fuse box in the engine bay. I don't have to take anything apart inside like that.
Yes, there are a lot of videos with misinformation about the new Super Duties. The first that comes to mind is the one they posted about changing the headlights on the 7.3L back in 2020. Every one of them talked about taking off the grill and pulling the whole headlight on the passenger side when all you have to pull out is the air cleaner assembly. One push pin connector and the hose clamp and the whole air cleaner assembly comes out in 2 pieces and the headlight bulbs are right there.
Every Ford I've ever owned has rubber grommets in the floorboards under the carpet. If you need to add a pass through wire, pull the carpet back, punch a small hole in the grommet, and run the wire through. Just make sure that the hole is small enough that the wire is a tight fit, so it doesn't leak. I've never owned a truck with the upfitter switches, but I always install radios and lights in my trucks, and this is how I always run the wires.
Do a web search for BD Diesel High Idle kit, you will find a perfect use for those PTO wires that you found, just installed it on my 2024 550. Great content by the way
I’m curious, why wouldn’t you use a fuse tap for the rear view camera? I’ve done my dash cams that way with previous vehicles and plan to add one to my truck this summer.
my 2019 F250 the pass thru wires at passenger side foot panel are so short it takes a gymnast to hitch to them. Would love to have another 6" of wire. Wouldn't break the bank.
I have a fuse tap for my Dash Cam for my 2023 F250 SD and apparently they are all computer controlled and i'm having heck trying to find an ignition only - they all tend to be on full time when i do my testing... I give up and last fuse fuse i buddied was from the Radio and just live with turning it on and off manually.
Those wires inside the passenger foot area that you showed are body builder wires. Be careful testing them some are canbus wires. There is a +12v ignition switched wire in there , but the max draw is somewhere around 2 amps so use a fuse and/or relay if you decide to go that route. There is supposed to be actual pass through wires but I got tired of looking for them and just drilled a hole in the floor under the door sill plate. I used a grommet and some sealant to prevent chafing and water intrusion.
Try Gen5DIY. They had a 12V to 3V harness that connected to my rain sensor at the mirror. Took 15 minutes to install works great on the 2024 GMC 3500HD dash cam. Very easy and clean install.
Look for the Body Builders Layout Book pdf file. I would imagine it would specify what all these wires are for the 2024 like it does for the 2022. Keep up with the great videos.
Those wires in the kick panel are usually for PTO functions.. that white tag labels what each one gets hooked to on the Mucnie harness (PTO) the only place to hook into your upfitter switches are the blunt cut wires coming out of the small relay box under the hood that also should had a white tag labeling what colors do what.
If it's just for a 12v supply for your mirror/dashcam, why can't you tap into the back of the existing cabin 12v outlet? You can even order power source kits that have factory harness plugs on them so you don't have to splice or cut anything.
I saw channel called DS TRUCKS. His take is the upfitter switches are low powered switches to control high powered devices. He has a 3 month old video to power a salt vibrator. He removes the battery and tray.
if you need more amps on an upfitter switch just wire in a basic relay to the upfitter switch wire and use that to switch your device and pull power with a larger wire to the battery
The wires under the glove box is got more to do with using them for PTO purposes and setting. One use for that bundle is if you get the unit to prevent the truck from shutting off after the 30 minute idle period
