Chess Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi is interviewed by WGM Dina Belenkaya ‪@DinaBelenkaya‬ about his friendship with Anish Giri ‪@AnishGiriOfficial‬, the mystery of his name, ‪@SamayRainaOfficial‬ and Sagar Shah contribution to Indian chess and more.
The FIDE Grand Prix 2022 is a series of three chess tournaments and the final qualifier for the Candidates Tournament. The top two finishers will qualify for the Candidates Tournament 2022, which is the final qualification stage for the World Chess Championship 2023. It’s organized by World Chess. The broadcast is commentated by Chess Grandmaster Evgenij Miroshnichenko and Woman International Master Jesse February.

I think Sagar Shah mentioned in a stream once that Vidit was not a Gujarati. Considering Sagar himself is a Gujju and the fact that they have spent considerable time together, I think he would know. I have seen Vidit and Amruta communicate in Marathi on stream a couple of times, but I haven ever seen Vidit and Sagar communicate in Gujarati. I think that's a clue that Vidit does not actually speak Gujarati. Its possible his ancestors came from Gujarat at some point in the past. But that's hardly relevant now.

@Puneet A Gujarati ear can hear a Gujarati accent , his father has a true Gujju accent ! Yes , they live in Maharashtra & Gujaratis have been living in Maharashtra for centuries ! In 1960 both states were separated , otherwise , We share same culture ! They are living there for so long so maybe Vidit has not that much affinity with Gujarat but his father's Hindi accent is clearly Gujarati !

Who popularised chess in India in recent years.. No doubt its samay.. But samay just introduced chess to masses.. But the king sagar is the one who is helping talented players, his dedication for chess is commendable.. In history of Indian chess not as greatest player of India but as greatest chess uplifter.. Moreover samay has to stream something so he choose chess it not like passion or anything.. But sagar you can see dedication and devotion he has for chess.... So my answer is Sagar Shah... ❤️❤️✌️✌️
