+DerSibbe Not everyone in an orchestra is from where the orchestra is located. The concertmaster of the Berlin philharmonic is from Pittsburgh for example
Something similar to this, maybe? ;-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PudCB4YGlYo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SABSolKOZBM.html
was she playing the notes too loud? I feel like she was letting out way too much air and letting her reserves in her lungs run out. That is probably why she keeps gasping for air on rests :o idk
PlayCalialy She’s not gasping; she is just getting as much air as possible in as little time as possible. I also want to point out that flutes require more air than most instruments, and the higher notes notes also require more air. Also, the smaller the room, the louder the sound. Meaning that she needs to play that loud for performances which are probably in much bigger rooms. This would be my best guess.
Very nice master class. Flury is fantastic as always. She has very little music in her. Moves her fingers but there's hardly any music. No music seems to come naturally to her. He tells her not to do something and she does it anyway. So he just starts ignoring the finer points of what he's saying.
but she came to the class on her freewill to be get corrections and advice and become better. it would be foolish to deny the whole purpose of the lesson, especially when the student herself is asking for it. that is what masterclass and lessons are for.
itchylois Agree, they were both great examples as teacher and student. She's able to respond with his approach and he's instructions were clear, warm, and supportive.
I'm a beginner (6 months) and I'm so impressed when someone can keep playing so long without breathing... I just don't understand how, I can't do much in one breath
Its pure economics. Try to reach as much tone with as few air as possible. You can practise that by playing long or slow passages in every key. Starting from mid register and work yourself up and down to the extremes. Try to play the passage as slowly as possible, so you are still able to play it completely without breathing and try to improve your sound. You do that a while and you will see, that it becomes easier to play the whole phrase with good sound.
Beautiful tone for the student. Wonderful teaching. How did I get through college and not learn more about allemande? My bad. Thank you for helping me keep learning.
He is a really nice and kind teacher, I wish all of my flute teachers were like him.I like my teachers but they could be more supportive. But seriously, I am actually good because of their un supportive words.
This is true, I have found most progress with the teacher that tells me what I'm doing wrong immediately, instead of being nice about it. And then when the teacher says something nice one day, it feels like an achievement, and you feel like you've learned something.
I agree with what you've said niko, my flute teacher has a "forced positivity" about her, but my boxing coach just immediately gives me feedback, which makes it easier for me to understand where I'm at with my improvement. My boxing coach will looks like he's irritated if my jab is sloppy, which to me shows that he cares haha
I think flute students can learn one basic principle of etiquette from this video. At 5:27 you can see her body language change and her wanting to play again to eagerly show her teacher she can do better. This is a natural thing amongst students but its wiser and more respectful to have a neutral position and body language, respectfully and carefully listen to the teacher and then only when directed started to play again.
Very illuminating - I am working on this piece on guitar - it is great to have some performance insight from a great teacher. Thanks for making it available.
Haylee Cain are you as good as you wanted to be? I am currently in highschool and trying to get into region is a pain in the as$ but I wish for you to get there.
Could anybody tell me what did the girl paste on her flute’s lip plate ?I think it might be a anti-slippery facility, could anybody tell me where I could buy it since when I was playing my flute, there always was wet around the lip plate because of the sweat, and the flute became very slippery and very hard to control.
I'm sure that when that lady sees this video, she will notice her fingers are still working over time, making larger than necessary up and down movements.
What level do you need to play this? Is this piece for beginner, intermediate, or advanced? If you study it at school, when do you learn it? Edit: I’m not a native English speaker, when I wrote this comment the word “piece” didn’t come to my mind, please have mercy
if you just "play" the notes of the piece slowly, it is fairly easy for intermediate students, and somewhat challenging for beginners but they can also do it after some practice. now, if you want to "perform" the piece well with all due respect to the cultural and musical background of the piece.... many famous flutists have published their own performance of this piece, so that gives you an idea of what this piece means to many flutists...
@@fluteteatime I listened to many performances, I really like this piece, that’s why I was curious, thank you very much for the explanation, it was accurate and useful!
@@teresa6387 my favorite piece, too! i love kate clark's performance. practicing this piece helped me(a sloppy hobby flute player😊) cope through some stressful times so it holds some special memories for me...♥
@@fluteteatime I think that’s my favorite performance too! I hope now you’re better and out of those stressful times… and also maybe able to play this piece! 🌸💕
@@teresa6387 thank you for your kind words♥ yes, things are much better now😊 i continue to practice this piece, but as i am just a hobby flutist, the results are somewhere near unbearable to listen to.... good grace help me😂😂 still, it is very relaxing and fulfilling to practice this piece!♥ maybe in the future i will upload my practice version of this piece on my channel, as an example of how an ignorant hobby flutist can mess up the beauty😂😂😂
Actually, to say it's not in the same key is half correct and half incorrect. Baroque Flutes play at a different tuning frequency. Considering to today's pitch requirements, the Baroque pitch is low. The piece is in the same key, it's all in the difference of pitch of Baroque and Modern-day pitches. Her tempo was "meh" at best and I think the problem with a lot of young flutists is they don't listen to enough recordings and truly analyze the music. I like my students to listen and be aware of the musical style and structure of the notation. She did have a very nice, fluffy, not overly vibrato-filled tone.
Matia Sisler He has 20 minutes with a student to give them the most accurate and helpful advice that he can before the next student’s turn. These students are highly capable musicians, and can (hopefully) understand and ingest all of these ideas and concepts as quickly as he describes them. I think the reason for the tempo of the teaching is to give the student as much feedback as possible before their time is up. Or maybe it’s ADHD, I don’t know.
('flauta envolvente' detected) Ok guys, if you are not happy with this version, I would recommend you this popular version (with more than 433 MILLION views in youtube) here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_P7S2lKif-A.html Cheers :D
"From the beginning we have spoken of the special Viennese qualities, of the way music is made here. The way we make music here is not only a technical ability, but also something that has a lot to do with the soul. The soul does not let itself be separated from the cultural roots that we have here in central Europe. And it also doesn’t allow itself to be separated from gender." "So if one thinks that the world should function by quota regulations, then it is naturally irritating that we are a group of white skinned male musicians, that perform exclusively the music of white skinned male composers. It is a racist and sexist irritation. I believe one must put it that way. If one establishes superficial egalitarianism, one will lose something very significant. Therefore, I am convinced that it is worth while to accept this racist and sexist irritation, because something produced by a superficial understanding of human rights would not have the same standards."
As both a cellist and a flutist I find the 2nd movement tempo too fast, it sounds frantic and out of control. It's not a race. On the cello we have the advantage of bouncing our bow and getting a nice light effect with good resonance. On the flute the note is clipped shorter without much resonance. To compensate you have to have some air between some of the notes where you can to give it that light soft feeling and not come across as a run away train.
Maybe you don't understand the Corrente or Courante: As maestro Flury explained here, the word Corrente means "running fast", so it really is like a race, indeed! That should be its character. Within a Baroque Suite, the Corrente is one of the fastest pieces at all.
I'm a flute player too and what i'm listening to is that she plays with a better tone and sound than his teacher and his interventions...That's for sure. He is too much blah blah blah...and he doesn't focus to get a good sound till the minute 17...
I am a flutist myself as well and in my opinion, the teacher is just trying to teach her something. I recognized that her tone is better than the teacher's but this my be because his flute isn't warm or something. He's there to teach her and if you listen closely, you can hear her playing improve after he's told her something. It's a masterclass, not a concert...
im not sure if you know the logic of the flute but the instrument gets warmer as you play it and the warmer the flute is the better it sounds so ofc he will sound airy because his flute is not warm
