Every once in a while, you have to live a fairy tale. We celebrated New Year's Eve, Dec 31 2007, in Vienna at the Imperial Ball or Kaiserball. From the moment you entered the Hofburg Palace until you reluctantly left, it was pure and simple magic. Imagine a night with Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sissi of the Hapsburg dynasty. To this day the afterglow has continued. Happy New Year 2008.

As you saw, we danced in circles .. on a crowded floor. But no question that it was fun. The evening was truly an enchanting experience. There was a multi-course dinner fit for the emperor. There was regal entertainment: opera in costume, ballet, popular Austrian music most of which the crowd recognized and sang along. How can you not have fun when everyone else was having fun .. even in a different language. It lasted untill 3:00 AM.

The New Years's Eve Ball was truly a night to remember. Dress length is your option. Black-and-white is the old-fashioned standard, of course. But women seemed more comfortable in colored or flowery gowns. Hopefully you'll soon live the dream of a "royal" ball, too.

The Viennese Waltz (before the appearance of the emperor and the empress) was actually "Tales from the Vienna Woods" by Johann Strauss, Jr.

You are good dancers, but please don't wear competition clothes to a society ball. This is a black tie event, and there just is no room for creativity in black tie.
