Vietnam has been colonized since the Han Dynasty, not the Tang Dynasty

also to add, english is just something that has found its way to be intertwined into viet a bit, kinda like how a lot of other asian countries use english words through social media, pop culture, etc. but as you can see, viet is already romanized and that isn’t by coincidence. after so many decades of colonization from the french back from the 1800’s into the start of ww2, to then the long civil proxy war between north and south backed with the communists (soviet union) and NATO during that time, vietnam has taken a lot of influences from around world, though a lot of it was not by choice early on. even through the language you will notice A LOT of tones, but also letters that don’t sound like how you’d expect and even letters that don’t exist from the original alphabet. ofc with that, a lot of words and especially names have come to accommodate the western appeal. like names like “tran” and “trang” and supposed to be pronounced as “jan” and “jang”, very similar to the romanized korean name issue for park (“pak”) and lee (“ee”) and ofc others. but besides that, like practically all languages, but notably asian ones for me, there is a melodic and almost natural structure to them, even if it god damn doesn’t sound like it😭 this is just because the words are created due to the natural positions your mouth and throat make to produce said vowels and consonants. like korean has a lot of vowel at disposal for all the intricate sounds in those power ballads. even some of the letters symbolize the formation of your mouth or tongue when you pronounce their sound. but for the sake of music, it’s why the words and melodies can just flow so well and have these interesting twangs and notes. again thank you wale and efra for everything you guys do. thank you for loving not just music around the world, but especially vietnam’s. i’ll be sure to share more bangers on the livestreams. te amo💜
