He died fighting for nothing except a war created by banksters. The gulf of Tonkin incident was a lie that was used to justify going to war.against a country that did not attack the USA. Youngsters were drafted cos they were easily manipulated and controlled, naive. “Military men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy.” ― Henry Kissinger

I saw the war from both sides. I deployed from FT Benning, GA with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in August 1965. I extended my tour to May 1967 because I really had nothing at home to come back to and my brothers in arms were my family. I served as a gunner on a UH-1D Huey in one of our aviation battalions. So, I went early and came back early in the war before the protests began. The guys in the vid are right, 1 day you are in a war, and a couple of days later you are back home and a civilian. I found out quickly that I really couldn't hang with my old friends anymore, just because I couldn't relate. They were doing the same old things I'd been doing before I left. Nothing had changed for them. No hatred was shown to me when I came home, the world was just status quo, it was as if nothing was going on half a world away. I didn't expect any kind of welcome home, and didn't really care for one. My problem was just trying to blend back in. In my civilian jobs the boss would say "it's really important we get this job done" or something like that. I couldn't relate to that. Just a short time before "important" was a hot LZ, extraction of troops under fire, emergency ammo resupply at night under fire and all of those other things that made the adrenaline flow to the max. It seemed like everything else was just mundane with no meaning. So, we went thru the motions and kept to ourselves. This isn't a "poor me" rant, just the way it was back then. Why did the protests start? I think in large part it was because Viet Nam was a TV war. You can't sit down, watch the news day after day and see young men bleeding and dying without having an effect. Eventually, it grinds you down and you began to question "why". It certainly effected me, and I was so ready for my brothers to come home. I'm proud of my service, I did 32 years in the Army. I will say that in all of those years, and all of my life, I never found the closeness and brotherhood that I had in Viet Nam. We, for the most part, don't talk about our time in war. I think that's true of any combat veteran. It's hard to put into words the images that will remain with you forever, especially when talking to someone without the same experiences. So, until the day I die, whenever I meet a fellow Viet Nam vet it's always a handshake, or a hug, and a "Welcome Home Brother". This is a long post, and may not be read, but after all this time it's off of my chest..

As A daughter of a Vietnam veteran I tried to understand what my dad went through while he served. My pop was drafted in 1965. It neveroccured to him to dodge the draft. By the time I was born he had been home around five years. I remember having short discussions with him about his war experiences. My dad mostly talked about the happy side of war. I could tell though through his eyes that there was pain from war. I am proud of my dad service to our country. Never forget!!!!

WWII and Korean War vets are living until their 80s and 90s but I’ve noticed Vietnam veterans are dying in their 60’s, 70’s, and 80s, it’s not joke, something is amiss. This has nothing to do about politics, this is just a sad observation from someone who has had family in all 3 of those wars.

Those of us who came of age in the Army in the late 70’s and early 80’s were incredibly fortunate to have been trained, counseled, lead and mentored by Vietnam Veterans, who for reasons beyond belief, chose to stay in uniform. Those of us who served in Iraq and Afghanistan were the direct beneficiaries of the dark cloud of shame that overcame the non-serving boomer generation, who as they matured, and in installments, realized their anger was grossly misplaced at the Vets, and not the civilian leadership that sent the military to SE Asia. It was that collective guilt that allowed those of us serving in an equally unpopular war to be fairly immune from the shameful treatment shown to this generation of Warriors. I hope Vietnam Veterans can find some small comfort in knowing that you were icons to those of us who followed in your footsteps, as we were able to stand on the shoulders of giants. I was able to walk through the Atlanta Airport to embarrassing applause during my mid- Iraq tour leave because the collective conscience of a nation finally stopped mistaking the war for the Warrior. Just like Iraq and Afghanistan, the war was lost by the suits, not the boots. Welcome home my elder brothers!

Ive often said, the absolute best part of my Army service (1982- 1987 Armor) was the fact that 98% of our NCOs and COs were Vietnam combat vets. Most wore CIBs & jump wings. While promotions were VERY slow in the 80s due to all the slots being full with Vietnam vets pulling their 20, their training and leadership was second to none. All the garbage they seen and lived , remfs, racism, protest, just plain old stupid, etc, etc, they just REFUSED to tolerate it, so our exposure to stupid bullshit was minimal. All the things they had in hindsight, they wished they were taught back then, we were taught. We were as ready for combat as they could teach us. And they went out of their way to teach those who wanted to learn. Want to qualify on a .50 cal, just ask. Want to learn about booby traps, just ask. We had hands on classes on both. These guys were just fantastic. While 100% no nonsense, ZERO bullshit tolerant, and very stern, they understood EXACTLY what it was like just to try and be a GOOD soldier, do the job, and try to survive. They understood us and gave us what they had wanted themselves back in the day. Good training & Respect. It was an Honor to be under their command. We learned to love and respect them. They were certainly worthy. Their lessons stayed with me for 35 years still. Thank you Gentlemen. Welcome Home.

My husband is a Viet Nam Veteran. He never talks about it except in his nightmares. We have been married for 49 years and I can not remember one night that he has not fought the war over and over and over. Many, many times he calls out for dead friends, he calls out orders. One night he yelled grenade and coved me with his body. I can not even imagine what happened to cause his nightmares. During the day he is as anyone you might meet on the street but at night he is punished with memories that must be so very painful. I wish he would talk to me about it but he will not.

Dear Rebecca, thank you for watching my film and your comment. I have interviewed hundreds of Vietnam Veterans. My film is used in all V.A. Hospitals to help those suffering from the emotional scars of war. I would be happy to interview your husband. I provide a very non-threathening environment for them to open up and share their stories. As you have seen in my film I have been very successful in doing this. He needs to talk. It will begin the healing process. The weight and burden of the war will begin to subside once he can talk about it. Please let me know if I can help...Larry Cappetto.

I never understood my father quietness when it rained, also at every window he had a rifle from a .223 to a 308 and we were not allowed to touch it. My father volunteered In the marines at age 17. Coming home he was spit on, thrown bottles at him. My father was embarrassed to say that he was a veteran on any job application. My father never drank, never did drugs and he never abused my mom. Yet he was hated for something he was never expected to understand. My father was so embarrassed of wearing the marine corps uniform he took all the pictures and burned them. My Dad volunteered for Vietnam. He was stationed in Germany in the early '60's. You were exempt from Vietnam at the time. He came back shattered. Told my Mom he wanted a divorce. He believed if we found out what he had done there we wouldn't love him anymore. The Army gave my Dad shiny things to reward his commiting atrocities. He never put an angry hand on my Mom or spanked me or my brother. My Mom said when we got older we would understand. One of the things that helped was from "Apocalypse Now". The French widow is talking to Willard about her husband. He became two people. The one who kills and the one who loves. I don't care what my Dad did over there. He killed because he was a soldier. JAH blessed my Dad with a wonderful woman. A Tejana from El Paso. She was a saint. Una corazon de Oro. Tengo Todo respeto para ella.He made changes for her he didn't do for my Mom. My Dad is at play in the fields of the Lord. I wrote to my Dad and told him I loved him.I hope you see him again.

Let’s zip up the brainwash hogwash “thanks for freedom” nonsense. Would be one thing guarding USA’s perimeter, that’s not done at all but ((w/o exception)) forces are deployed worldwide for nothing more than the benefit of the few pulling strings from the top of the monetary pyramid … Matter of fact the gulf of Tonkin incident was a ruse ((the account of that day released 35 years later forced out by foia)) US Marine ship was never attacked. Why would they attack a fully armed powerhouse like that ?? Look into it they did NOT attack shit. So the whole reason givin for goin into Vietnam was bullshit, what other things are 100% pure bullshit that we the gullible people believe!? lol is what i have to ask myself. In no way do I blame the 60k mostly young men that died in the Vietnam “conflict” that will never have a chance to fully mature, have children, grandchildren, or Experience love. Is sickening that some people are SO brainwashed they believe “freedom” was somehow obtained by going into that country ((or any country for that matter)) & killing ANYONE-soldiers or civilians . -Iraq let’s see what was the lie….oh yeah Sadaam had “weapons of mass destruction“ catch video of the POS satanist bushlll joking about his lie later on at a dinner as the peanut gallery laughs “ none under there how about here no none there how about here” real funny. damned soul’s are funny now I guess Also can’t blame the soldiers that survived the conflict, but look at the way vets are treated upon returning home after doing the dirt for those assholes. Like throwaways. Something is beyond fkd up in this current and past model. Instead Use that high nitrogen fertilizer to water a giant tree . The one that’s being chopped on like never before

My grandfather was First Sergeant E-8 Robert Carl Blevins Sr aka Bruno. He joined Army Airborne in 51 and retired in 71 after 20 years service. He did two combat tours in Vietnam and was there in 65 66 68 69 70. He was stationed at FSB KELLY and FSB STINGER. He first went to Vietnam in 65 66 with MACV to train a South Vietnamese Artillery battalion in the Mekong Delta. He saw serious action with the 101st , 82nd , and the 173rd airborne brigade. On November 3rd 1969 enemy Vietcong launched a surprise morning attack on FSB STINGER and my grandfather led the counter attack for the Americans inflicting maximum casualties upon the enemy and forcing them to withdraw. My grandfather was awarded the bronze Star for valor for this action. He was highly decorated and was awarded four bronze Stars and one was for valor with the V device. I learned more about my grandfather's military career from the paperwork I received after his death. I'm very proud of my grandfather and am honored to be the first born grandson of first sergeant E-8 Robert Carl Blevins Sr. I have the utmost respect for all Vietnam Veterans !!! God bless you all.

It has been 50 years since I was in Vietnam and watching this has brought back a lot of memories. I can identify with these men in much of what they expressed. I was drafted after graduating college and after basic was trained at Ft Sill as a Fire Direction specialist and my first assignment was with the 101st 12 miles south of the DMZ in Quang Tri. I pray Americans never again treat their servicemen and women the way we were treated upon arriving home. The first time anyone thanked me for my service was 42 years after I had returned home and she was a Vietnamese lady who had fled to America.

It makes me ashamed of the people that treated these men so horribly! I for one am proud of every single solitary one men that fought in Vietnam. Whenever I encounter a veteran, I ask if they served...if they say yes, I thank them for their service. I don't ask where they served or what war. It doesn't matter! The fact that they stepped up and answered the call...they went! Please don't be dispectful of these men & women. You don't know what their experiences, therefore you shouldn't judge. For everyman that participated in in this video: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!

Welcome home to all of you fine men that served in Nam and to your brothers who paid the ultimate sacrifice, your galant heroism and fight for life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not in vain. No one lived the shit like the grunts Army and Marines. I spent 10 years in the Navy and made two trips to Vietnam. The hardships I endured had to do with long hours of work and lack of sleep. As I talk to the grunts I see hero in every one of them, I almost feel like I stole whatever valor I have. I am proud of my time but the saying “all gave some, some gave all” certainly holds true for the ground pounders and I respect every one of them.

I served in Vietnam in '66-'67 in Tonkin Gulf aboard a Navy oiler, refueling other Navy ships. No combat. My brother served at Cu Chi with the 25th infantry Div. He was injured by a landmine. Several of his buddies and his unit commander were killed by that same landmine. He has had PTSD since he returned, and turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. He has been very anti government, anti military since he returned. Vietnam ruined him mentally, and the VA has pretty much turned their back on him with his PTSD and mental issues. Way to go VA. Great job!

After almost 50 years you had me from the moment I heard the blades of an approaching Huey. I still respond to the smell of diesel fuel, to mosquitoes, and to cold rains. Over the years, worse than being unemployed or underemployed, worse than the daily exposure to self-serving and self-absorbed American culture has been the grinding truth that Vietnam lifted the mask of illusions about my country from my mind forever separating me from mainstream society. At 69 I have come back to the house but I will never be back home.

Go to the Mai Lei Massacre on RU-vid and you’ll hear plenty of regretful veterans giving their thoughts on what it was like to kill women and children if that’s your bag. I’ve actually had to save a baby from a dog bite that later on died but because you are probably some dumb yankee up north freezing your stupid ass off because you don’t have enough sense to leave that God forsaken place.

Over all these decades I tried to put things behind me and forget, but there is never any forgetting, thank you for all of these brave people who testified as to the horrors of war in this video. It brought back a lot of memories that I tried to hide and forget for things that I had no control over except doing my duty to this country. As far as I am concerned, no politician should be in office unless they have vested interest in America and have served in in the military as proof of that interest. My closest friend is a Viet Nam Veteran. We met on-line about ten years ago & have remained friends ever since, e-mailing daily. We don't live in the same state and distance to travel & visit isn't an option right now. I was only three years old when he went to Viet Nam. He's in his seventies now & I'm 59. He is the most respectful & honorable man (apart from my Dad, a WWII veteran) that I've ever known. We've read through the Bible (old & new testaments) together twice so far. We share pictures & life's daily ups & downs. I can never fully imagine what veterans have gone through, but I do have an interest in learning about their experiences. I appreciate & honor all who serve this country. God bless Viet Nam Veterans.

Gut wrenching stories from these brave souls who found themselves in the most unimaginable situations. The devastating effects can only be known to those who were there and then to have the courage to share their stories on film or print, is simply amazing to me. These gentlemen come across the same in my opinion - honest, compassionate, loyal, brave, patriotic, and real. These are just words that hardly describe what these American soldiers are made up of. They are much more than that. As a Canadian police officer, I hold the utmost respect for anyone past or present who has put their lives on the line for their country, unit, and most importantly, their comrades and friends. It is not enough to just say Thank You. Give these people your respect, love, admiration, and compassion. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you never had to walk in their shoes. On this day I am saying THANK YOU! to all Vietnam Veterans out there. I have nothing but respect and love for you all.

Bob, Thank you for watching my film and your amazing comment!! Thank you also for your service to your community. A lot of bad PR in Canada regarding law enforcement right now. Here is a film I recently produced and premiered in Toronto. Let me know if you would be interested in the entire film. God bless you!! @@VoicesofHistory Hi Larry, no thanks required! Military personnel and law enforcement officers have made many great sacrifices so our written appreciation is quite small in comparison. I would certainly be interested in the Beyond the Badge Canada film. Many parts of the footage I saw resonated deeply with me. I too, have been exposed to a lot in the past 27 years. If possible, it would be nice to connect with you. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication on these projects. Sincerely, Bob

My dad and his brother, my favorite uncle, were in Vietnam. Father died at 49 and Agent orange ended up taking my uncle out. He was awarded a Purple Heart as he ran over a land mine with his Jeep and got injured. Neither one of them talked much about their time there, so I watch videos like this. Thanks.

The rich will always come out richer and look around at the rich who do they look like and they will call themselves patriotic people today and most of them today will get on me for taking a knee for a injustices l see 👀 and these cowards never served a day in the their life them or their family and to be treated like we were is what hurts someone like agent orange face who didn't serve because of his rich daddy and he has the nerve too call me unpatriotic because l take a knee for some injustice l see but you can tell all of the people who never served in the military 🪖 because they would know taking a knee isn't a slap at the military but yet they love the statues of traitors and that ugly flag that they whole so dearly saying it's part of whose culture it dam sure isn't mine because I'm not a traitor

This is one of the best retrospectives I've seen in bringing awareness to the spirit of that era of service. I was a Viet Nam era USMC MP but young enough I was at the tail end of the bitter Viet Nam conflict. As son of 2 foreign immigrants, I love deeply the force for goodness and liberty that America was meant to be. And am deeply troubled by the current generation that can withstand nothing tough, can't even be disagreed with, is owed a good time, and favors feelings over truth. God bless these men. And heal America. The current CoronaVirus is totally insignificant relative to future virus of potential socialism and an entire horde of children who can endure no hardship. Bless these men. God bless America.

I am trying to make peace with a dark place in my life while I was married to a Vietnam Vet. He rarely spoke of it. He was a violent alcoholic. When he did speak of it, he became child-like, ..terrified...guilt ridden. I've made peace with everyone in my life and forgiven them, but him..well, it's been hard. Watching this helps me to understand why he was the way he was. He's still living. He's still miserable. He's still an alcoholic. One thing most don't understand...The average age of drafted men in Vietnam was 19. ......19. Children....now broken. So very sad. Thank you for sharing.

I was there when Nixon resigned and when Saigon fell in April of 75. Never saw combat but saw the results of it. Please don't thank me for my service, I feel like I did nothing.
