Brotha, this was heartwarming. I just kept saying to myself "I hope he blew-up and framed those pics for that family"... And then you showed their reactions in pics.. Dope!!

Around 2008 when i was teenager in rural South Africa there was an American lady who came and stayed in our village for about 2years while doing her PHD. she had a camera and would just randomly take pictures of people then get them printed and give them back to the people.. there's a photo of me, my dad and my younger sister that just happens to be my favourite photo ever.. i'm pretty sure the same applies to many other people in the village.. she was the first white person we ever interacted with i think she was from Chicago.

This was a great video and I immediately subscribed. I am from New York but living in Saigon for 30 years. I am not black except that when you grow up in NYC with an open mind you become at least a little black, a little Italian, a little Jewish etc. The most memorable evening was on my first visit to Vietnam back in 1988 (I am now 68) was when my wife wife and I came across a group of about 15 black Amerasians who were teenagers at the time hanging out. We took them to the Bach Dang ice cream shop on Le Loi Street which incredibly is still there. Ice cream back then was about five cents per cone but the joy that evening was priceless. Soon after that… all 100,000 Amerasians were taken to America. Anyway… I love photography and have been all over the country. I remember going around northern provinces with a little printer where I could print photos on the spot. One last comment on the racial factor being that in my humble observation of life… all things being equal people with darker skins have a tougher time but we can also say that a happy self confident person with very dark skin will have an easier life than the light skinned person with no confidence etc. Anyway I agree that we are both safer in places like Vietnam than USA and I happily remain here. Good luck to you. For a young man you exude wisdom well beyond your years.

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your story. There are many misconceptions about Asians and Black people, and I've had nothing but positive experiences while living and traveling all around Asia.
