I'm sure there were a lot of farmers with their families there just trying to live their lives caught in the middle of this conflict. This looks beautiful not like a war zone. So very sad for these humans who were affected.

These Napalm attacks (if correctly dropped) were on empty villages to destroy them. The U.S. feared that North Vietnam soldiers would make their way back to these villages so they destroyed them instead with napalm. Shortly after these napalm drops they used “agent orange” which was sprayed on all of the trees to kill them in order to no longer allow the North Vietnamese soldiers to hide in the jungles. The problem with agent Orange was that it had major setbacks and both Vietnamese and American soldiers were breathing it in, and many of them have died of cancer and other serious diseases. Crazy part about it, is that the government new all along that it wasn’t healthy to breathe in, but people have just thrown it under the rug as another piece in history.

I saw this film once before - over 50 years ago I had come home and turned on the tv to the local PBS station and saw this. It was an hour long and wasn't all Napalm, but all sorts of ordnance drop from aircraft. The entire film was shots of bombs, canisters, etc film from the rear as they were dropped and showed in very high definition (for the time) the bombs hitting the ground. It was fascinating and horrible to watch. This is a small piece of that film!

This is weird. At once fascinating, horrifying, beautiful, terrifying, and, most definitely, thought provoking. It encompasses a point in history which shapes our republic to this day, fifty years later. I look at these isolated hamlets sequestered in equatorial forests and along jungle rivers and imagine the timeless simplicity of the lives of the inhabitants colliding with the mechanical forces of political and economic systems impersonal beyond their reckoning. A collision of all consuming fire destroying all it touches in a randomness too final to comprehend. We should take more care in what we unleash on the world. #inourname

War is a plague that we will live with forever. Since the first steps of humanity, we have coveted what others own. Though our place in Vietnam was questionable, we have allies we must protect, be it our own soldiers, or our allies own people. Without weapons of destruction like this, our own way of life would've been consumed far earlier than any of us would remember.

Now 51 years later we get goods from Vietnam, and you can go on vacation there and retire there. @mrx5840
@mrx5840 2 года назад
It's been slowed down for analysis. Part of the debriefing I believe, in real life the camera would record at a faster rate... also you wouldn't see much as this is probably from a jet fighter bomber, such as an F4 phantom or F100 super sabre, which is probably moving around mack 1.
@jmalmsten
@jmalmsten 2 года назад
@@mrx5840 Ah. I didn't factor in the speed of the planes. Now, yes that would be useful both in debriefing and training new pilots. Makes one wonder and assume... Do modern fighterjets and bombers get Phantoms strapped to them for the same purposes? Or are they generally far too far away to actually do any good for visual analysis post mission? Then again... live feed cameras on the tps of bombs and recordings of monitors are quite common today since the first gulf war, I suppose. Also makes me assume that if we ever use nukes in future war.... The event would surely be captured in 16K resolution at 90000 frames per second... From multiple angles.. to make very much sure we could learn as much as possible from it.
@tunaconsuma
@tunaconsuma 2 года назад
The aircraft would be cruising at some Mach .90 and then slow down a little before dropping so that the bomb releases safely. I imagine the footage has been slowed or maybe it’s just very zoomed in so that you can see what’s going on.
@fallinginthed33p
@fallinginthed33p 2 года назад
@@jmalmsten Tiny tactical nukes, maybe. Larger bombs in the megaton range would destroy the releasing aircraft. A nuclear conflict involving the major powers would probably involve ICBMs and SLBMs instead of bombs. A conflict with smaller nuclear weapon states could involve planes with bombs but they'd be going on one-way missions.

I watched footage like this as a kid. Perhaps recorded soon before. I recall being angry that "we missed one", a building but because it played more than once, I looked in vain for a machine gun or anti-aircraft gun. There were none, no matter how hard I searched. Only what looked like farming homes and very humble at that. It changed me from thinking that we were the "good guys" under attack to wondering what was going on. It wasn't about Communism. I already knew early that Russia had been an important WW2 Ally to the USA. I was proven correct when the same corporations profiting from the Cold War gleefully shipped American Jobs AND American Technology To COMMUNIST China. I got my answer from Nixon. Richard Nixon was filmed, standing in front of a Map of the region when he was Eisenhower's Vice President. Nixon spoke about the Rubber and Tin available in Vietnam and elsewhere. That answers the question about why France (Michelin Tires) was there before we were. You can watch Nixon on Ken Burns' "Vietnam", Episode One. .

Nixon is also the dude who tried to stop India from stopping a genocide in East Pakistan. Nixon sent US Navy's 7th fleet's carrier battlegroup to destroy Indian Navy's carrier battlegroup that was enforcing a naval blockade on East Pakistan to deny supplies to Pak Army that was genociding the local Bengalis. Soviet submarines saved the day, stopping the "champion of democracies" USA from attacking the world's largest democracy (India). In the meantime, Indian Army invaded East Pakistan and within 13 days secured surrender of Pakistan Army's 93,000 troops thereby ending the genocide and birthing a new nation who we know today as Bangladesh. . Tavistock institute founded in 1921 researched the effects of shell shock. With this data available they turned to an idea and developed this idea that has it's history in shell shock. As the necessary technology was available they applied shell shock via airplanes, meaning bombers. The target was the German civilian population. Mr. Kurt Lewin (nose man) developed the idea of aerial bombing. After ww2 the organization that was in charge to study the aerial bombardment, transformed itself into an Air Force organization. On March/01/1946, Army Air Force Contract No. MX-791 was signed, creating the RAND Corporation as an official think tank, defining Project RAND "a continuing program of scientific study and research on the broad subject of air warfare with the object of recommending to the Air Force preferred methods of techniques and instrumentalities for this purpose." On May/14/1948, Rand Corporation funding was taken over by H. Rowan Gaither (👃), head of the Ford Foundation. This was done because the Air Force had sole control of the Atomic Bomb program for the Cold War with the Strategic Air Command, the missile program, and many other elements of the "terror strategy". It became a billion dollar game for the scientists, with John von Neumann (nose man), their leading scientist, becoming world famous as the inventor of "game theory", in which the U.S.A. and the Soviet Union engaged in a worldwide "game" (war game) to see which would be the first to attack the other with nuclear missiles. In America, the schools held daily bomb drills, with children hiding under their desks, meanwhile those scientist were smiling to what length they could manipulate society. This new organized tool with the name RAND Corporation set now out to plan new bombing campaigns based on the available data they already accumulated through ww2. The Korean war ended with farmers on both sides having been extensive targeted and weren't able to produce thereof enough food anymore. The U.S. bombing campaign having had the logistics (roads) wiped out for distribution of the food, had the farmer not anymore capable to produce enough food, thus wide spread starvation was experienced by Koreans. After the Korean War more Koreans died due to food shortages than due to the actually combat actions on both sides (inclusive the heavy massacres on Korean civilians). The planning of the Vietnam bombing campaigns according to Daniel Ellsberg (a nose man, he stole the Pentagon Papers that consisted of information concerning the Vietnam War. This information was withheld from the American public) pointing this out in his book "Secrets", published in 1971, had been delegated to General McNamara and his assistant John McNaughton. Both of these individuals of course are chosenites. In this bombing campaign the U.S. Bomber Command dropped nearly double the tonnage of bombs dropped on Europe and Soviet Russia during ww2. The result also here was like in the Korean war, a shortage of food. In addition to the aerial bombing of farms (Farm Land) the chemical warfare agents - Agent Orange and Agent Purple were released on the fertile farm land to destroy the soil of the farmers. The extensive Search & Destroy operation of the U.S. Army And Marines paralyzed the villagers to produce rice/food. The communist Guerilla fighters called Vietcong killed mercyless the South Vietnamese farmers as they became targets of both, American Soldiers and VC (Vietcong). As starvation occurred in South Vietnam by having reduced the food production of the South Vietnamese farmers through sheer terror bombing and raids from the Vietcong and U.S. Army and Marines and the agent orange/purple chemical warfare agents, the food processors of America were ordered by the U.S. government to ship white rice by the tons to Vietnam to guarantee a continuation of the war. After the war more Vietnamese died through starvation related infections than through the search & destroy and bombing campaigns together. The weed killer agent orange and agent purple made Vietnamese and American soldiers sick. It destroyed animals, birds and the fish in the Rivers and ponds as the soil got contaminated, thus the ground water was poisoned, too. The RAND Corporation was never indicted. The only difference by principle to the terror bombing of Germany in ww2 and that of Korea and Vietnam was, that the Germans defended their cities by having an air defence. Korea and Vietnam had no air defence. I have studied many wars during my lifetime. Whether the US involvement in Vietnam was the “right” decision will always be debated. Napalm / incendiary bombs were used by the US against Nazi Germany and Japan, often with devastating results. Cities like Hamburg, Tokyo and many others were reduced to rubble with massive civilian casualties. Certainly, the US and allied objective during WW II was bringing the war to an end as soon as possible, and civilian casualties were an unfortunate consequence. In Vietnam, like Hamas in Gaza today, the VC infiltrated many villages / homes / facilities and used innocent civilians as human shields. Given this situation, what was the US supposed to do?
