Hm, I think maybe bánh xèo! My mother makes it sometimes (I’m Vietnamese) and it’s really good. You should try it! I’m not going to explain it so it can be a surprise for you. Also hi! Edit: Bánh mì as well, honestly you just can’t go wrong with it! It’s a Vietnamese sandwich. Will love to you you try some more Vietnamese foods!

I worked in a Vietnamese restaurant as a waitress and preferred non-Pho dishes like Vermicelli, the hot pots, green papaya salad (with beef jerky), Vietnamese coffee, and the Vietnamese crepe. They used a lot of basil, and lemongrass for flavor. Peanut sauce, hoisin. Delicious.

*Putting this comment here, just in case she or someone else tries it! There are a couple of ways to eat it. You can put it on a plate or bowl, put veggies and herbs on top with the fish sauce. And then eat with utensils. OR my personal favourite way! :) My family likes to wrap ours in lettuce, adding herbs, it’s big enough for one or two bites. dipping it in the fish sauce kinda like lettuce wraps.

Also from the same region is "banh nam" similar to banh beo but is a rectangle and steamed in banana leaves and has a more pasty texture. I've heard it's meant for babies and old people with not so strong teeth but it's still my favorite as an adult haha. Ok heres a list of my favorite vietnamese food. I figure this list gonna last you for a while since its a very long list, haha. But still theres a lot more that I can share with you. We gonna start with the food I grew up eating at home: Caramelized egg with pork belly Vietnamese steamed eggloaf Canh chua cá lóc (litterally mean sour soup with snake head fish) Cá kho(caramelized fish. Its a catergory of its own, it too broad to be describe in a youtube comment, i think you should reserche it or mail me for more info) Rau muống xào tỏi ( stirfried water spinach with garlic) Gà rôti Bò kho Miếng gà Canh cua( vietnamese crab soup) Khô chiên( vietnamese fried dried salted fish) Since vietnamese people tend to eat out for breakfast, we got our own catergory of comom breakfastfood: Bánh bột lộc( shrimp tapioca dumpling) Bánh ướt Bún mắm Cơm tấm Mì tàu (chinese noodle) Hủ tiếu nam vang (vietnamese style cambodian rice noodle) You can even consider coffee a breakfast drink. Fast food-ish, snacks: Bánh mì Xôi mặn Xôi nếp than Bắp dã (mashed corn serve with sugar and mung beean in banana leaf) Glutenous steamed corn on a cop. Roasted sweet potato Sweets: Kẹo chỉ Bò bía ngọt Bánh da lợn Fresh cold fruits dip in chilly salt or shrimp salt (you should try shrimp salt, its a very iconic condiment) Sâm bổ lượng Hột é đười ươi Đá me (mashed tamarin drink, served cold) Dừa tắc (coconut water with shreded fresh coconut and a squish of kumquat, remeber to add a bit of salt to the coco water, just a bit) Street food/drinking food: Bò nhúng dấm ( beef poach in vinegar broth) Bò lúc lắc (stirfired beef cube with lots of vegetable that still have a crunch, lightly seasoned) literraly mean shaky beef or dancing beef due to the way its cooked. Hột vịt lộng xào me(ballut with tamarin sauce) remerber to eat along side rau răm(laksa leaves) and lime/kumquat salt pepper mix or it wont taste right, only use lemon if youre being held at gunpoint, or else dont use lemon) Charcoal roasted seasnails serve with sweet amd spicy fish sauce And if you feel frisky : tiết canh (conjealed blood soup with aromatic), đuông dừa (coconut worm swimming in chilly sweet fishsauce) though i think this dish is unethical. Vietnamese food is very diverse, its not just phở or bánh xèo. I ussualy dont like to share these food because people from western countries ussually missrepresent our food, thus misrepresent our culture. I still haunted by the balut eating trend where i see those people eating it wrong then make faces and give negative comments. Balut were suppose to be eaten slowly with a small spoon, and each spoon should be acompany with a bit of lime salt pepper mixture and some laksa leaves. Its the equivalent of me cooking a thick unseasoned steak untill its brown to the inside, take a bite and judge it as bad food. But you on the other and been respectfull and willing to do extra steps to make sure you dont missreprensent food from different cultures. So i guess i can count on you to share these dishes with the internet. Ps: Im mixed chinese/vietnames and i havent even touched on a lot of ethnical chinese food. We are incredibly diverse, haha. And theres special ocasion food as well i havent mentioned, but i figure this is too long of a list already.

Canh Chua is quite good, I’m a fan of shrimp. Vegetarian Canh Chua is so delicious. If you get the chance, try it. Umm… Banh Xeo, Banh Bo, Vietnamese Mango Salad, the papaya salad is pretty good too. Banh Bao is pretty good, bao generally is. I think you would honestly enjoy Vietnamese desserts. We have our traditional ones and our French influenced ones. Personal favorite that you can do from home, banh mi with condensed milk. This is a sweet and very simple dish. Growing up, I wasn’t really a fan of sweets but this one was my favorite. All of my cousins and I would do our homework knowing this was waiting for us. Or when we weren’t really feeling good but wanted something simple. Essentially we’d just have some condense milk on the side. On an extra cold day, we’d mix hot water to it and dunk our Banh mi in the milk. So good. I don’t recommend a lot of water but that’s to my preference. It’s one of those that no one really talks about since it’s kind of universal. That’s why I’m talking about it. Coconut Jelly is also very good. I have so many more I want to suggest but I think it’s better to take my time and suggest them later.
