Hearing people pronounce peridot like "peri-DOT" always feels weird to me even though it's correct because I grew up learning to pronounce it "peri-DOH" with a silent "t" (which is also a valid but less common English pronunciation of peridot) from my gemologist grandmother. Basically English is stupid so I learned the less common version of the word and I can't get used to the normal pronunciation of the word lol

chrysoberyl in japanese is actually kuraisoberiru or in katakana クライソベリル. ソ (so) and ン(n) look very similar so it’s easy to confuse the two when reading it :)

True, there are a few characters like that, シ (shi) and ツ (tsu) also. You have to tell the difference based on direction and stroke order, but sometimes the distinction isn’t clear. The characters are always pronounced the same though, just hard sometimes to tell which one lol Thanks for your comment!
