I'm here because I have an exam tomorrow and I'm screwed update:I passed so this video worked I'd say. (yes this is many years later I just got a notification for this thread okay leave me alone)
So I’m a gravity falls nerd and if u don’t know gravity falls has like a million different ciphers and codes and stuff and dude do I have to say this was helpful thank you A TON
I started watching Gravity Falls season 2 just now, and I have to say THANK YOU very much for demonstrating how the Vigenere cipher works. I'm gonna have a blast decrypting all those end-credit cryptograms.
I'm here because I read the following book:" Codes, Ciphers, And Secret Writing" by Martin Gardner. I wanted to find out how this video presentation compared to how it was presented in that book. Incidentally, since the grid can be used with more than one method, I think that the word "system" is a better description than the word "cipher" for the Vigenere grid.
Annie Nguyen Ur key stream is the number assigned to ur key. So it’s lemon right so you use that everytime. there’s a better tutorial on the vigenere cipher than this that explains it better lemme edit this with the link. It’s just overall better to understand and it’s the same thing just with numbers. This saves you from having to count like in this video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E352JJ8xv48.html This make it a bit simpler
I learned to do the vigenere cipher with counting out how many spaces to go to rather than this. So watching this after that was so confusing but I get it now. This just saves you time from counting spaces
Very good! thanks! but i have a question: if i wanted to add more characters to the table (for example, numbers 0 to 9) how would i do that? would i just add them to the end of each row and column and then shift the letters again? thanks again
Yes, you can do that. I've made my own with numbers and basic punctuation. Done correctly you've got a very workable cipher and the equivalent security of a one time pad - the Holy Grail of encryption.
just add number end of first and second col and row and fill blanks. i mean you have to cleam half of this board bcoz it comes 0-9 where has a-k mean N line would be NOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLM. and all those grid can be even mixed it still would work or make bigger circle and smaller circle write your alphas and number equal on edges. that is same thing and less work.turn smaller ring K(stream letter) under A and do your encrypt and decrypt so on. or make 2 strip of paper ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789 ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789 yes one is double size so its easier when you slide key under A you can encrypt and decode. works still exact same way
So the first letters of the plaintext will be the column letter the key will be what y column and the cypher text is is the letter on x column and y column together
@@VitroVine Only if the key is shorter than the message itself and based on yet random information. But otherwise you're correct. Modern computers will crack this cipher in microseconds.
I'm influenced by the powerful impact of this material. A book with related themes charted a new direction in my life. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint
The Plain Text is the message encrypted in the Vignere Cipher. You are given the Cipher text but not the key, only the recipient is meant to know how to solve it. Never reveal the key in the code.
its just ceasar cipher with all keys. way i would use. i would not use rot13 i mean key N xD i would change key every letter. same grid can replace t rings with alphabets. just turn inner ring KEY under A and thats that same thing xD
