The only one that is her equal is Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester). I swear it's like those 2 were separated at birth. That Big Bear scene with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) up at the cabin was epic.
In the last 4 or 5 years, I believe I've watched all the parts of "Viki's Personalities " over a dozen times, and to this day, im still blown away. Daytime was incredible back in the 90s!!
I'm actually giving a three way credit in my book about mental.illness and my father's battle with the veterans hospital. I'm using this episode as a point of reference to show a chronological timeline of how the mind can go very dark when veterans and abuse victims are exposed to trauma. I have to say that i have always felt that 1995 Robin Strasser should of had a support or leading honor Emmy as well, because Robin's Strasser Dorian was a very effective mental health doctor without realizing it. But Michael malone was extremely smart in showing how dark.a person can go when backed into a corner and i.do believe he helped put a visual representation on not just D.I D but P.TSD as well
Throughout this scene, I am able to recognize pieces of the other personalities coming fourth even before they officially emerge. Erica Slezak is awesome.
This is the best story ABC Daytime has ever aired. Hands down. How on EARTH "One Life" was overlooked for a Daytime Emmy for Best Show between 1993 and 1996 will remain one of Daytime's Greatest Mysteries EVER. WTF?!? This was by far the most compelling story I have ever seen in Daytime - and I've watched nearly every soap at some point over the last 30 yrs.
I just watched "The Three Faces of Eve" where Joanne Woodward won the Oscar for Best Actress for playing a person with multiple personalities so convincingly. Then I had to watch Erika Sleazack blow that performance out of the water with this lesser known acting triumph. Victoria Lord you are greatly missed.
dabigdikdangler I agree this is an acting clinic put on by Erika. Robin deserves credit too she's a fabulous acting partner for ES. she did win an Emmy for this one of her 6 !!!
Gillian Spencer did a much better job than this in the Viki/Niki role. Joanne Woodward was good in the movie role. Won an Oscar for her portrayal of Eve. Erika's portrayal of Niki was always a bit campy IMO.
Margaret but this isn’t niki though. And even if she did Erika played several different characters which is the true mastery of your art-form even the way she blends the personalities into one!!!
I remember this one. This was one of the best storylines in soap history. This is where we all found out WHY Viki had multiple personalities in the first place.
I have been saying that for decades. Even the soap magazines thought Robin Strasser and Susan lucci were sisters. But, lucci unlike Strasser got the respect from her show.
I remember these scenes as if they were yesterday. They stretched over two episodes if I remember correctly. The second episode was noteworthy because there was no music in the first 30 minutes - just the thunder effect. The intensity of all the actors, Erika Slezak especially, was something I never saw on daytime before or since.
I agree that Erika is a wonderful actress! I used to watch one life to live sometimes while I was in a college. I'm a big time fan of YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. I would love for her come on YR since it's a top soap opera as a main character with her family. Plus the actress who played Sarah Buchanan is on YR now.
The scenes were also directed by Jill Mitwell (who also handled the episodes in which Marty was gangraped). The use of hand-held cameras in some of the scenes also added to the realism and intimacy of the storyline. Mitwell's been nominated for a directing Emmy 7 times (for OLTL and ATWT) but never won.
This (long) scene between Erica and Robyn is just great. Both actors work off each other with perfection. I always thought Robyn was a hottie, from 1981-the 1990's.
Abc daytime had some great shows in 1995, my mom a big fan of one life to live, all my children and loving. All had great stories at this point even the canceled Loving had must see story.
Thank god Erika deservedly won the Emmy for this storyline. oltl was on fire from 93 to 95 Malone was a genus I know he came back and flopped probably bc his writing partner Griffith wasn't with him he doesn't get enough credit as Malone. I also was surprised Claire Labine was canned after a year in 97 she was so brilliant on gh . I think her stories were pretty good she had killed off patrick and Blairs babu I know that's harsh but I hated that pregnancy and the quad of Marty blair patrick blair. she brought on Mel Hayes who I liked a lot with Dorian she desperately needed a male counterpart not the boy toys jason and Joey. I also liked the canton Ohio scenes of the cramers it had a very Edgar Allan poe feel to it
@gotch09 Yes, but because the writer's at that time (from an idea suggested by Robyn Strasser) wanted to dramatize Dissociation more realistically they decided to use child abuse as a basis for the original split and show MULTIPLE alters rather than dual personalities.
When I watch this today the main question I have to ask myself is how did Carlotta ever manage to clean between that staircase and the two enormous pillars.
15 sec u can see vikis alters emerging esp tori even a bit of Jean plotting when bos banging on the door viki would never direct Dorian to " get rid of him" it's not viki anymore
Viki at the start is def not viki u can see that her personality of tori is almost out what a brilliant actress both these ladies. Dorian saw viki was not herself when she said " too bad David wont collect , I will!!!"
I'll admit that I don't regularly watch OLTL, but I do enjoy watching the vintage clips/episodes here on RU-vid. I know that there is probably no simple answer to this question but I will ask it anyway... "Why does Viki have so many personalities and when and why did she begin having them anyway?"
Yes, but because the writer's at that time (from an idea suggested by Robyn Strasser) wanted to dramatize Dissociation more realistically they decided to use child abuse as a basis for the original split and show MULTIPLE alters rather than dual personalities.
IF MEREDITH LORD had lived how would Victor Lord been able to equally split up his estate between Dorian, Crammer his wife and VICTORIA and MEREDITH Lord
my mom just told me DID is a real disease and i freaked out... i was thinking "now i know why i have been feeling strange for the past 2 years i have another Personality" on march 1st 2009 my cat died in my arms basically and i lost controll of my feelings. i felt rage sorrow and hate at the same time. then i felt something different. i felt even more anger for my brother. this personality must hate himexcept this hate is even stronger than mine. he feels its my brothers fault my cat died
Multiple personalities don't result from fights. Dissociative identity disorder results from ongoing horrific trauma before age nine. Scenes such as this trivialize and misrepresent extreme child abuse survivors. If you enjoy this scene take time to actually educate yourself on what dissociative identity disorder is. Otherwise you are just benefiting from the farther marginalization of extreme child abuse survivors.
She already had multiple personalities. The personalities often want to protect the main personality from the trauma that caused the personality to fracture hence why Jean is so calculating!!!
